Rating: Summary: What all Men Need to Read! Review: Simply put this is an incredible book! It has to be one of the best books (if not the best) I have ever read. All men need to read Wild at Heart. Men around the globe are lost and we don't know why. Sexual addiction, homosexuality, being a loner, anger for no apparent reason, impulsiveness and so on, this book will explain why we are at this angst ridden place in our lives. The Bible scriptures are to the point and very refreshing. John Eldredge truly has an understanding of men and what makes us tick. If you are trying to be a rightous Christian and keep coming up short or are finding that after Bible study that you are still empty inside please read this book. Read it twice and then read the Field Manuel. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Careful...you may actually be challenged by this book Review: I am very grateful to the friend who recommended this book to me. Eldredge just as well could have addressed me personally throughout the book. I'm single, 30, never married, no kids- and I still found every chapter to be as applicable to my life as the father who wrote it."Wild At Heart" is not a testosterone fest, it's not about men vs. women, it's not about a movement or trend, and I don't know what the heck "hermeneutics" has to do with anything. All I know is that after reading even the first chapter, something stirred in me that hasn't been there for a long time, inspiring me to be more than I am now- and that's a very good thing. The stories are personal and full of maturity, wisdom, and hope. This is not the end-all, be-all text for being a true man- that one was written a long time ago- this is simply a great book to read and know that you are never too far out of God's reach.
Rating: Summary: Gets to the Heart of the Matter Review: Any man who has sensed being "wounded" will find consolation and help in Eldridge's book. Though some reviewers have taken the facile approach of knocking his contemporary metaphors (which I found refreshing, but which will date the book in a few years), there is a solidity here to both the presentation and the biblical perspective. I am buying copies to give to many men (and their spouses) who wrestle with self-worth, pornography, or are seeking meaning someplace other than the wild and mysterious heart of God
Rating: Summary: Wild at Heart Review: This book gave me alot of insight into the way men think and feel and a better understanding of how I can one day support my spouse. I gave it to my brother to read and he said 'Every man in America should read this book.' I'm not sure if he's ever going to give it back to me. As a woman, I can say that a man who takes this book to heart is the kind of man we're looking for.
Rating: Summary: Wild at Heart Review: This book expresses a lot of what I have been feeling for a number of years. This book "gives me permisson" and encouragement to be the man God designed me to be.
Rating: Summary: Wild about Wild at heart Review: Wild at heart grasps the genuine essence of man as God intends him to be. I would not hesirtate to recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Excellent concept Review: Read the first chapter and you have the whole story. Everything after that is redundant; the author says the same thing with different emphasis. The point that he seems to be making is that you can be a Christian and behave like a man, providing your behavior is tempered by Christian idealism. The author is affronted by the concept of "being a nice guy" as if that is somehow evil. In short, this is a book worth buying, reading and sharing. For a more indepth and soul-stirring read, I highly recommend you buy { THE PRAYER OF HANNAH } by Kenn Gividen.
Rating: Summary: Delightfully Insightful Review: This book has been amazing to me. It's not just another "modern masculinity" book. Eldridge taps into aspects of the male personallity that are not looked upon with favor, these days. I found it relieving to have someone support the feelings that I have had for years. This book is a wonderful read. I recommend it for anyone (man or woman) who wants to know more about men.
Rating: Summary: A Little Over the Top Review: The claims that Eldredge makes are a little hard to believe such as the comparison of God to William Wallace. God is loving, merciful, and beautiful while he says that he is a warrior that is filled with anger towards his people. To me this is too much. He also makes claims that women were not a factor in many past movements and claims that men are the one's that always stop hate and evil in the world. But the fact is that women started the anti-slavery movement and also men were the ones that started the institution of slavery. This is just one example of women stopping slavery and men creating hate. He says that there are too many nice guys in the Christian world and he sees that as a bad thing. Nice does not equal weakness. But there are some good points which address the issue of standing up for what you believe in. This is a testostrone packed work.
Rating: Summary: After reading, purchase a case to give as gifts! Review: Reading this book will change your life! My company is sponsoring a Men's Group using the book and field manual. We meet the first and third Tuesday of each month and, without exception, this is a positive life-changing experience for every man in the group...
