Review: It is about time that Americans open their eyes to the scary personal and financial relationship the Bush family has with these feudal Islamic fundamentalists.
How can you expect Bush to protect us from terrorism when he hangs out with the main financial backers of terrorism?
I hope that every American realizes what this buisness-personal relationship with the Saudis actually means.

Summary: Why are Righties so up in arms over this book???
Review: Because it looks at a KNOWN FACT and breaks it down for the average American. For the record, I am a Republican. In the eyes of some who gave this book 1 star, I might be termed a RINO. I voted for Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr. I did NOT, however, vote for George Dubya Bush. Why? I don't like idiots. I don't like people who pander. I didn't like Bill Clinton for the same reasons. Why is it when the facts, which are clearly laid out brilliantly in this book, are always assailed by the FAR RIGHT WACKOS in my party? They complain about the PUBLIC SCHOOLS turning out idiots, but I wonder if people in my own party can even criticize it anymore?!?!?My liberal friends can criticize their party and I respect that. I never hear the Rush's and Hannity's EVER say one damaging word about our president of some of the Congress' most destructive members (Tom DeLay anyone?!?!?). READ THIS BOOK. IT OPENS SOME EYES. I, FOR ONE, CAN LIVE WITH JOHN KERRY AS PRESIDENT. SINCE MCCAIN WON'T RUN, MAYBE WE CAN SEE IN 2008. Real Republicans, like John McCain, Ronald Reagan and myself do not like the TRUE RINOs the ones who ignorantly poo poo any ideas or theories just because they don't fit into their rigidly small vision of the world. This partisan bull needs to stop now or books like this won't matter, our republic will have fallen and who knows what will happen. Read this book!

Summary: What an eye-opening book
Review: This book educated me in a profound way. I really had no idea of the secret connection between Bush and the Saudis. It is quite frightening and upsetting to learn about it. This book reads easily and educates one throughtout each page. I recommend everyone become familiar with what is happening in the backrooms of the White House. It is shocking!

Summary: Excellent Study of Multi-Generational Corruption
Review: As an Anthropologist, I know how some cultures are extremely patient, arranging marriages and holding grudges for three generations. Even the arranged marriages of American heiresses with busted-flat British royalty was a one-time thing, but the House of Bush and House of Saud generational arrangement should be a Kabuki tragedy or neo-realist Chinese film. At any rate, Unger gets your blood flowing by noting that a transplant patient is about to die and waiting for his new heart on 9/11. Unfortunately, the plane with his heart is forced down by Air Force jets, with time running out. At this same time, House of Saud family members, as well as bin Laden family, are allowed to fly home. The House of Saud was very patient and tried to buy influence, Unger showing how they started with Carter's people, especially Bert Lance and Clark Clifford. These were light weights, though, to the House of Bush. I should digress and point out that Unger also shows how the House of Saud also formed an early alliance with the family responsible for Wahhabism. The House of Saud was quite brutal and ruthless at the turn of the century and continues to be so. (...)P>To make your blood boil, though, read Chapter 10, "Masters of the Universe." This is all about the secretive Carlyle Group, and how the House of Saud gave the group and House of Bush 1.4 billion--yes billion with a "b"--in US dollars. You can buy a country with that kind of money, that's for sure. After that, go to pages 263-269 and see what Al Qaede's Number 3 Abu Zubaydah had to say and how that was handled. Yeah, with friends like that. I also have to mention that there is plenty of humor in this book. Jerry Jones, oil billionaire, had the habit of allowing Prince Bandar onto the field during games. Unfortunately, Bandar always brought 40 bodyguards with him. This was so distracting that it once caused a fumble. Coach Johnson was so irate he locked Jones and Bandar out of the locker room once. This, according to Unger, is the primary reason for the break-up of the Jones-Johnson leadership of the Dallas Cowboys. And to think we never even knew.

Summary: This is not politcal manipulation
Review: The relationship of our leaders with the buisness world is of great importance to anyone who is democratic and believes in this Republic. We the People should be interested in electing "public servants" who are not in danger of comprimising our security or constitution because of economic interests that have nothing to do with governing the Nation. A good hard look at these issues is paramount regardless of partisanship. Craig Unger offers a question of conflict of interest. Don't let partisan politcal blindness defy common sense.

Summary: Conspiracy?or just incompetence?
Review: When I first picked up this book I thought that there would be implications of some sort of conspiracy between President Bush and the Saudi government that backs terror. There is nothing in the book that proves that. What it does show is a very complicated relationship between our current president, his father, the family that controls Saudi Arabia and those responsible for the 9/11 attacks. What this book is totally consistent with is Richard Clarke's recent charges that Bush failed to heed the warnings that 9/11 was about to occur. It also has new details about the tangled web of relationships between the Bushes, the Saudis and the oil industry. Unfortunately the media gave far more attention to Richard Clarke's recent allegations than to the information contained in this book. The media would do well to also focus in on the Bush-Saud connection.

Summary: Surprised!
Review: I read this book with some trepidation, even as I was going through the fairly persuasive text. Sure, the Bush family had close ties with the Saudis - but is that really a bad thing? Isn't that how power works, and don't we have to have some of our leaders tied in to other world leaders? On that point, I found some of Unger's implications to be (perhaps) colored by a cynical bent toward the Republicans, though as a previous reviewer pointed out, he does not blow smoke where there is no fire. Still, after all that, I thought the book nothing more than a good background piece to fill in some of the details on our complicated involvement in the Middle East. I dismissed Unger's warnings of potentially more nefarious dealings between the families, even considering that all of those pages about Saudi Arabia's role in 9-11 were blacked out (by an administration that uses "classified" as a tool to control information). Then comes Woodward's book, detailing a secret meeting between the President and Prince Bandar, where the President showed Bandar the war plans for Iraq! Where Donald Rumsfeld told this Prince of a kingdom that can hardly be described as trustworthy to US interests that, regarding whether or not we would actually invade Iraq, he could "take it to the bank"! Where Bandar and Bush apparently discussed maniputaing oil prices for the sake of Bush's political gain! I know that some of the details or interpretations of Woodward's account are in dispute, but even the administration does not argue the point that Bandar was privately brought in and shown those plans before Bush's State of the Union Address, where he assured Congress that he was working hard for a peacful solution (obviously an outright lie - the decision had already been made to invade). Is it not amazing that a Saudi Prince was put more in the loop on a US invasion than our own Senate and House leaders? In context of this stunning revelation, read Craig Unger's book and you will be very worried about where this country is heading. In context of this stunning revelation, a 3 or 4 star review from this reader jumped to the full 5. All the pieces are falling together, from Clarke to Unger to O'Neill to Woodward's incredibly balanced account, and the picture presented by the completed puzzle will not show favorably on the secretive Bush Administration.

Review: Evidently the leftists didn't listen to Bob Woodward and others discrediting any "secret" deal to lower oil prices before the election. Not true. Do your homework, lefties, and read the book before you write a review. Did it ever occur to you that these authors are producing books for the same reason they say the Arabs are influencing oil prices.....to influence the election? Duh! Huh? Get a brain. Just because there were terrorists on the hijacked plane in no way establishes Saudi Arabia as being a terrorist state, any more than John Walker Lindh joining the terrorists means all Americans are terrorists. These books are rubbish, written to ignorant people who are easily influenced by the Bush bashers. I know our public schools are bad, but I didn't know they graduated such ignoramuses.

Summary: Cheers From A Flaming Liberal
Review: After reading this book, I am enlightened. Now I know why we attacked Iraq when in fact there were 16 Saudis and NOT ONE IRAQI ON THOSE PLANES ON 9-11. Now I know why we were told Iraq was an immediate threat to our security, and why terrorists were being trained in Iraq when neither was true. This war is not about terrorism at all. It is all about Bush family connections to the Saudis and big oil. The Bush Administration is nothing but a bunch of oil profiteers, liars, and thieves. This is indeed the most corrupt presidency in our history. Commander in Chief my foot, Commander in Thief is the correct title. Impeach Bush and his unsavory band of crooks now.
