Rating: Summary: Fast, Easy, and Effective Review: As I evaluate my experience with Language Dynamics' Behind the Wheel French CDs three words continually come to mind. Fast, easy and effective. As for fast, this course had me speaking my first sentences in French in the first session. Come on. This is an accomplishment. (especially for me) As for easy, if I could understand it then anybody can, believe me. As for effective, my French Canadian neighbor says she can understand me when I speak French to her now. I may not sound eloquent here but I want to get the message across that I am not being political here. I just want to convey one message to you and that message is: This course is great!!
Rating: Summary: Caution Review: careful, these are CD-Rs, not CDs as advertised, and that does make a difference; my car player generally does not like CD-Rs, and sure enough, I got an error message on these about 5 minutes into the first disc, it wouldn't play, which kinda defeats the concept. Also - why no track markers - at least so you wouldn't have to listen to the 4-minute sales pitch that begins CD1 everytime you played it? I mean, you've already bought it.. I returned this set.
Rating: Summary: A Disappointment Review: For $69.00 the box looks very plain. With just a black and white printout slipped in as a cover, it looks like somebody puts it together and stores it in his or her garage. But I thought, as long as the contents of the box is high quality, I don't care what the box looks like. I opened the box and there were 8 loose CDs and nothing else, no booklet, no flyer, nothing. I thought, well, as long as what is on the CDs is high level, I don't care. Then I listened to the first CD on my way to work. It begins with a long-winded motivational speech that I wanted to skip right away. I waited until finally lesson one begins. That wasn't too bad. I was repeating words, phrases, and then the days of the week, one by one, the months of the year, one by one. But then suddenly we have to repeat a long sentence including the seasons that hadn't been introduced at all. As a total beginner I was now struggling. The speaker on the CD said that one should go back if one doesn't feel comfortable yet. When I tried that, I realized that the CD is NOT SEGMENTED at all. When I skip back, I have to listen again to the 5 minute motivational speech that I wasn't interested in the first time around. By that time I was quite upset and felt that I had paid too much money for a low quality product. Of course, since the CDs are without any packaging in the box, I cannot return them. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. I am now using Pimsleur's French in Ten Days (for $19.95) and have the feeling I am actually learning something.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Series Review: I am a second year french student who purchased this set to help with my pronounciation. This set is awesome! I was very impressed and I have seen improvements in my listening skills and speaking in just a few days. It's an extemely well put together set. The only warning is that the CDs may not work in extremely old CD players.
Rating: Summary: I Highly Recommend This Course Review: I saw Mark (the founder of Language Dynamics) on Good Day New York on WYNW Fox 5 a few weeks ago. I was so impressed by his philosophy of language teaching (and his fluency in 5 languages) that I bought his 'Behind the Wheel French' 8 CD course. From the perspective of a New Yorker who spends time driving, (many of us don't) this course is a godsend. It is my opinion however, that you could learn French anywhere with this course, not just in your car. Just like Mark said in his interview; Behind the Wheel French teaches you the building blocks of fluency in the language, not just a few canned phrases. Once you learn the basics from this course, you can pretty much learn on your own because you already speak the language. About the production. My CDs and overall package was of the highest quality. The voices on the CDs have excellent diction and are crystal clear. I thank Fox 5 for presenting this excellent method and course to me and others in their segment 'Foreign Language Courses 101'.
Rating: Summary: Loved It! Review: I was frankly astonished at how much French I was able to learn in my car with Language Dynamics 'Behind the Wheel French'. The handy learning guide and tapescript was also a big help although all the meanings were given on the tapes so I didn't have to look up anything.
Rating: Summary: great features and instruction! Review: I've tried other CD sets to learn French and this is the best! The CD's are multiple track and although each track is rather long, I simply use the fast forward button on my car's CD player to skip through parts I really know. At first it seemed strange to learn without written materials, but the results speak for themselves (no pun intended). I highly recommend this course.
Rating: Summary: Très Bien et Merci! Review: Many thanks or 'Merci Beaucoup' to Language Dynamics for coming up with Behind the Wheel French. A truly great course. Friendly voices come at you in a non threatening way to teach you how to speak French while in your car, jogging, etc. .. I really appreciated the natural, non grammatical approach and the native French speaker. I also liked the fact that the American instructor has an advanced degree in French and was rated as an excellent instructor by his university students. This level of expertise is evident in the CD presentation which is low key but extremely effective at getting one (me in this case) to speak and understand basic French.
Rating: Summary: great features and instruction! Review: Me and my car player loved these MULTIPLE TRACK French CDs. They're easy to understand and will teach you to speak French FAST. I learned so much French with this 8 CD set that I can speak more than my friend who was a French major in college. How 'bout them nanners? The tracks are laid out thematically so that you can fast forward on the run, go back, etc ... Ideal for the car. No reading or dictionary required. Great native French speaker and fantastic instructor who speaks clear American English. Don't be frightened away by those planted reviews that urge caution. I highly recommend this course and the quality of the recordings. P.S. I suggest to those who get an error message on these quality CDs (see above) to buy a new player and keep the CDs. The CDs are Taiyo Yuden, the folks who invented CD technology and the world's leading producer of high quality CDs. I checked all this out before I bought my course.
