Rating: Summary: I READ the book, did you? Review: (...) That said, I think the most accurate part is the chapter about "How to Talk to Your Conservative Brother-In-Law." I too have found that the current wave of Conservatism in America is based on irrational fear of the unknown, which leads to an unwillingness to explore world outside the work commute, (that is, if you still have a job) which in turn leads to more fear. Republicans are afriad, but the thing is, their "leadership" isn't concerned with anything but enriching a very small group of their closest friends and allies. Republicans, or more accuratley "neoconservatives", don't care about you; they just want to scare you enough to vote for them, so they can continue stealing everything that isn't bolted down. Reagan asked a question when campaigning against Carter that I think is relevant today. "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" If they were being honest, most Americans today would say no, including people who voted for Bush in 2000. You can't judge a politician by what he says; you may only measure his or her performance by its impact on your day-to-day life. Bush has been bad for the country in just about every category, especially economically. For those who would blame the previous administration for the current economic woes, the stock market has more to do with the state of the economy than any other single factor, and it is a real-time referendum. You can't realistically blame anyone but the failure sitting in the White House and his felonious team for cheerleading a recession before one actually existed, allowing his friend Ken Lay and his ilk to go free after the largest corporate fraud cases in history, and enacting a tax cut for the rich while conducting two wars.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: I started reading this book thinking it would be a Bush bash, and it is. It provides interesting details about the war and 9/11. It also uncovers interesting facts that I didn't know about Bush before I started reading. I recommend it to any non-Republican, and Republicans with an open mind.
Rating: Summary: Better than I expected !! Review: I wasn't that impressed with Stupid White Men -- most of the book was just a rant -- but after I heard Michael Moore speak I bought this book. It is much more fair and balanced -- if that isn't an insult nowadays -- than Stupid White Men. This book is loaded with well-cited facts supporting Moore's arguments and suggestions, including some pretty flattering comments about conservatives. Moore nicely ties together humor and preaching, including a great chapter written by "God." Anyone who calls this book a "rant" hasn't read it. I won't repeat all the substantive stuff you'll see in the other reviews; I'll just say that if you're concerned about the future of this country, READ THIS BOOK !!
Rating: Summary: Dude, Where's My Body? Review: After reading this book I fear for Michael Moore's safety. After doing extensive research on what makes the government tick, Mike must know the lunatics in the White House view him as a danger to America. His cover page alone is enough to anger the mildest of Bush supporters! The White House probably hopes some die hard redneck Bush loyalist will gun him down, which explains why Michael has body guards now. I really see the danger in what Michael Moore is doing in disclosing Bush's connections with the Bin Laden's and Saudi Royals. He is a brave author testing the waters of freedom. I do fear for Michael Moore's safety, and hope he won't be made into some kind of an example for others who may try and expose the extreme evil in the White House. Using the cover of a comedy satire writer seems a brilliant way to get the truth out. The Administration may think most Americans wouldn't take comedy based satire authors such as Moore and Al Franken as credible. When Bush turned down aid for California to clear out Beetle infested trees a few months before the fire broke out, and yet was able to get a blank check for Iraq, that is when it really hit home -- this man is slowly forcing California to bow to him and his regime. There is no oil in California, why should he care? I hope this stuff is in Moore's next book, how Bush crippled California with electricity crisis coming from Texas that drained billions out of California to pay for inflated electricity, then allowing California to burn to cinders. But I'm unsure if Moore will survive to the next book. These extremists in the White House are nasty dudes! When they get in another 4 years that is when we will see even greater leaps for more power and control to make it a one party system. When society begins falling apart and people are in worse situations more police state authority will be used as they have laid the groundwork to abolish much of the Constitution already. Bush&Co are ill, greedy people -- their pure motivation is money based on oil. It's as simple as that. They have no ethics, no moral code for themselves. They are infected with the illness of greed that blinds them to truth or to the danger their illness imposes on innocent people of the world. The most evil, dark force on the planet is greed. Those who are infected with it, should be removed from power as they have no regard for human life and use politics to manipulate the masses.
Rating: Summary: Good but Could Have Been Better Review: Michael Moore makes some good points in his book and really hits hard with his humor, but his fact-checking is not as good as it could have been. As reported on spinsanity.org, an equal opportunity website that attacks both Democrats and Republicans, and on other sites, the wide arrays of mistakes and clever omissions are detailed. Moore is even shameless enough to paint himself as a victim of his publisher's attempt to put his book on the backburner, even though he had thanked HarperCollins and Warner Books profusely for their work with his previous "Stupid White Men." Overall, Moore owes it to his readers to do a better job.
Rating: Summary: What the Founding Fathers have to say on the issue Review: Dissent is the highest form of patriotism. -Thomas Jefferson
Rating: Summary: Dude, this book is funny and informative. Review: I just finished reading this book literally minutes ago and it was absolutely hilarious, insightful, and inspiring. Michael Moore has a way of keeping his writing simple, but at the same time pouring loads of information in to your brain. It is a really easy and fast read. This book is smart, witty, and will definitely be appreciated by people who would like to see some change in our society.
Rating: Summary: More Moore Please Review: Michael Moore does a great job of presenting research garnered from a bunch of sources, in a readable and concise exposee. OK, so maybe he is a teensy weensy bit critical in the process. I can live with that in order to get so much detail in one digestible chunk. You're a bright, bright star with a heart, Mr. Moore. So maybe I didn't understand the General Wesley Clark "nonendorsement" because I thought for sure I'd see you in the Dean or Kucinich camp, but hey, CLOSE ENOUGH! <g> Get it, read it. Show those dough-doughs that maybe one or two folks is not oblivious that our leaders seem to be flying by the seats of their pants and covering their errors in restrospect with implausible spin. And when you've finished the book... leave it in a laundromat. America needs to know this stuff.
Rating: Summary: Give 'em H---, Michael! Review: In his followup to "Stupid White Men" and "Bowling for Columbine", Michael Moore raises some important questions. Then he goes further to talk about "Bush Removal and Other Spring Cleaning Chores". You probably won't agree with everything you read, and he's ok with that. But he calls 'em like he sees 'em, and he doesn't hesitate to speak truth to power. "DUDE, WHERE'S MY COUNTRY?" is an easy, fun read, and you will put it down fired up to go out and make a difference.
Rating: Summary: Come on Guys Review: I would like to say half of these Conservatives who reviewed this probably haven't even read the damn book!!! I read your reviews and look even further down upon you! Most of you have nothing to say about the book! You sit there in contempt writing your review on Moore not his work! I was hoping that most of the Conservatives had read the book and had a clever rebutle to some of his arguments, but you just sit there and write how Moore is a socialist and a radical and that somehow means that his book is trash!!! I would like to state to the Christian right that if you read the bible and follow it oh so avidly you should have come to the conclusion that God is a Communist according to your belief system!!!
