Rating: Summary: Have A Nice Day by Mick Foley Review: Mick Foley's book "Have A Nice Day:A Tale Of Blood And Sweatsocks" is not only one of the best wrestling books out there, but one of the most entertaining books ever put out. As a wrestling fan, I enjoyed it. Mr.Foley tells a good story about his extensive career as a wrestler and "hardcore legend". I found it to be well-written and quite funny at times. This book is a good read whether you're a fan or not.
Rating: Summary: Wrestling fan or not it is worth reading Review: I am not a wrestling fan but I picked up the book because it spent so much time on the best sellers list that I wanted to see why. I found it to be a brutally honest, although somewhat apologetic, view of the world of professional wrestling. This book chronicles Mick Foley's rise through the ranks to become one of the longer lasting stars of the wrestling world. I believe that fan and non fan alike will enjoy Mick's candid observations about what goes on behind the scenes at wrestling matches, the impact's of a wrestler's stage persona on his children/marriage and the kind of dedication it takes to make it to ranks of big entertainment. For non wrestling fans, such as myself, the sections in the novel that detail major matches and wrestling story lines will drag a little. However, these sections do not detract significantly from the overall interest of the book. Mick Foley is a natural storyteller and obviously passionately devoted to his chosen, for lack of a better word, art form. This makes for an interesting read.
Rating: Summary: THE TRUE HARDCORE LEGEND Review: Mick Foley is truly the hardest working person in professional wrestling and reading this book has given me an understanding of how hard the "fake" sport of wrestling really is. Mick put his whole heart into his dream of becoming the best wrestler he could and he achieved that dream. This book is a wonderful account of Mick's struggles to get into the sport and his hard fought and many times bloody matches using thumb tacks, C-4 explosives, barbed wire ropes and much more. I loved this book.
Rating: Summary: "Have A Nice Day!" --- a must-read Review: What can I say that hasn't been said already? This was truly honest and excellent read. I can assure you that you'll never look at Mick Foley the same way again if you read this book. Great job, Mick, and keep up the good work! ô_ô
Rating: Summary: More than just a cheap pop... Review: Okay, I admit it. I am a closet wrestling fan. If you are someone who does not understand what all the hoopla is all about or if you are someone who jeers at wrestling because it is "fake," I would highly recommend reading this book. For fans who love this sport, it is a wonderful look at what goes on behind the scenes. For those who are only mildly curious, it is a wonderful look at the work and determination it takes to achieve the success of superstars such as Mick Foley. While some of the language might make it questionable to recommend to younger readers, I would not have a problem recommending it to someone (male or female) in high school. I look forward to his next book...
Rating: Summary: Have A Nice Review Review: What can I say about this book that hasnt already been said? I've read many books, and this book sets the standard for how any book on any subject should be authored. The book is 544 pages, but it can be read in one sitting. The book is that captivating. Foley tells many interesting stories, not just about the ring, but about Foley the person. Do not worry about having your intelligence insulted, he does break kayfabe. I can honestly see no weakness in his book. It is easy five stars. I strongly recomment anyone to read this book
Rating: Summary: Have A Nice Day Review: If you are into wrestling, you will love this book. It gives you the complete "behind the scenes look" at the not so glamorous life of being a professional wrestler. Throughout the coarse of this book Mick Foley will walk you through his childhood in Three-Village, where he attended many sporting events with his father who was the towns athletic director. You will laugh and cry at his humorous stories from collage, where the woman of his dreams called him the wrong name. Mick will fascinate you with his dare devil stories of his home videos shot while in character as the now famous "Dude Love". This book will show how someone who competed in Japanese death matches with C-4, barb wire, and fire spread out in the wring could be a loving father. After reading this book you will truly know the greatness of Mick Foley. You will understand his drive to succeed, his determination to prevail over the bad times in collage, and most of all you will understand Mick Foley the person above wrestler.
Rating: Summary: Have A Nice Day Review: This book is not for the squeamish. No. This is the autobiography of the Hardcore Legend, Mick Foley. Some wrestling fans claim that "Foley is God." You're about to find out why. Mick Foley is a nice man. A family man. He loves his son, Dewey, his daughter, Noelle, and his beautiful wife, Colette. He loves amusement parks, eating ice cream in bed, and watching Nickelodeon. So, how to explain his participation in Japanese Death Matches, which replace the ring ropes with barbed wire, cover the mats with glittering gold thumbtacks, and feature C4 explosives scattered throughout the ring? How to explain the barbed--wire scars that zigzag across his body, the second-degree burn tissue that is a memento of an exploding C4, and the missing ear that was ripped clean off his head during a bout? And how to explain how, after losing his ear, he then continued his match? Here is an intimate glimpse into Mick Foley's mind, his history, his passions, and what some might call his pathology. No ghostwriter. Not "as told to." Straight from the twisted genius behind Cactus Jack, Dude Love, and Mankind deciphered from 760 pages of maniacally handwritten notebook paper--comes a tale of blood, sweat, tears, and still more blood. You'll chuckle at Mick's early back-yard wrestling antics and homemade wrestling movies. You'll be amazed by the inside scoop on legends in the business like Terry Funk, Harley Race, Abdullah the Butcher, and Ric Flair. You'll squirm as Mick describes his incredible risks in the ring and his grisly, mind numbing injuries. Finally, you will cheer with true admiration as arguably the hardest-working, most dedicated, and most heroic man in sports-entertainment beats all the odds and takes home the prize he had been told all along he would never, ever get: the World Wrestling Federation Championship belt.
Rating: Summary: SOCKO Review: I have been a fan of, not just the WWF but all, wrestling ever since I was a kid. I enjoy all aspects of wrestling. I found this book very, very intertaining. What takes place in front of the camera is interesting, but what takes place behing the camera is even more. Mick Foley takes you behind the scene from ECW, WCW, and the WWF. His ups and downs that lead to his now infamous 'The Loved One', to his training and his ultimate beginning, Foley takes you on a step by step tour of what it's like to break into the wrestling business. A defenate yes for any true wrestling fan.
Rating: Summary: Subtle Differences between Paperback and Hardcover Review: I had originally bought this book in hardcover, however, I felt inclined to purchase it again in paperback to get the extra chapters. I was not disappointed. Owners of both versions might be interested to check out a phrase early in the first chapter. It has to do with the cost of the book, and it changes with whatever version you are reading. Check it out.
