Rating: Summary: Enthusiastic, but rushed and flawed Review: For the wrestling fan who wants a chatty, rambling account of the Hardcore Legend's career, this is the book for you. However, Mick is kidding himself by portraying the book as something for the non-wrestling fan. This book is strictly for wrestling fans, both casual and marks. It would have been nice to see a little more of the "real" side of wrestling (i.e. setting up angles and putting guys over) and a lot less of lame Al Snow jokes. Foley should have discussed his multiple-chair shot PPV match with the Rock, one of the most gruesome things I've seen, and the impact it had on his kids and wife, instead of weaving a simple chronology of his matches. In other words, this book is a softball, coffee table kind of book; fun to browse but not re-readable. The book has a rushed feel, almost like it's a second draft. There are several typos, and is unnecessarily too long. It reads like it was written on 760 sheets of notebook paper (which it was). Ultimately enjoyable, but wait for the paperback or the bargain bin.
Rating: Summary: Shakespeare Review: A pound of flesh, no more no less, no grissle no bone, just a pound of flesh. 'said the Shylock to the Merchant.' Thank you mick.
Rating: Summary: It was the best book I've ever read! Review: It was the best book I've ever read! I have always been enamored by the myth and the legend of Mick Foley. I got an in-depth look at his life, whether it be his family or professional wrestling. I will have a great appreciation for the "relationship" that Mick Foley has with Al Snow. One thing, however, that I will remember the most are the poignant looks back at a true human being, Owen Hart. These stories really touched my heart, and I wish that I was a wrestler during his time, and that he could've played a joke or two on me! He was such a funny man, and so devoted to his family. Mick foley does such a good job telling us stories of his experiences with Mr. Hart, and I shall forever remember them. Thank you, Mick Foley, for letting us read about you.
Rating: Summary: He Suffers for Pro Wrestling's Sins Review: The point isn't whether wrestling is or isn't fake. I watch it -- and I love it -- because, aside from the political arena, it's the closest thing we've got to the modern-day Theater of the Absurd.Foley will never win a Pulitzer for his prose, and yes, the online grade of his writing ("I was quite..." "He was somewhat..." "They were very...") wears on the nerves. But it's the story you're reading for, and it's a story you get. I've been one of the dozens (AND DOZENS!) of Mankind's fans for a while now. This book helps remind me why.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: A typical non-wrestling fan thinks that wrestling is a joke and that every thing that is done is fake. Well for you that is not a believer that wrestling has reality then take a look at this book and become a believer. I have never read a book that had so much heart and glory put into it. This book has inspired me to follow my dreams and not let others put me down because of what tose dreams are. I thank you Mick Foley for writing the most inspirational book of all time. Mick you are the author of the year by far.
Rating: Summary: A Surprisingly well-written book! Review: I've always enjoyed watching Mick Foley wrestle in all of his personas, but after reading his story I have a great deal of respect for Mick Foley the man. He gives us a glimpse into the reality behind the show that is pro wrestling, and shares with the reader a great deal about himself in the process. A great book for the fan and non-fan.
