Rating: Summary: The best book of 1999 Review: Mick Foley has once again proved that he can beat any odds bestowed upon him. Not only did he once prove them wrong by attaining WWF heavyweight championship belt, but he also proved the critics wrong when he became the number one best selling author. This book will take you through all of Mick's trials and triumphs as he starts out as a kid wrestling in his back yard, to becoming one of the biggest stars in wrestling history. His, often times humorous, commentary on life inside and outside of the ring are a must read for fans and non-fans alike. There is something in here for everyone. This book proves the point that you control your own destiny, and no mater what the circumstances are you should always follow your dreams. Hats off to Mick Foley for never letting go of his dream.
Rating: Summary: Have A Nice Day A tale of Blood and Sweatsocks Review: This was an excellent book. I have already read this book 3 times and I am starting my 4th time. This book is the best wrestling book ever.
Rating: Summary: Well written, touching and entertaining Review: I was worried that I was wasting $26.00 on this book when I bought it. I had heard good things from the WWF folk about it, but they hype everything, so I just had to jump in with both feet and trust Mick with my cash and my time.I'm so glad I did! Mick is a terrific writer; he has a good sense of timing (read the book aloud to see what I mean), flow of emotion and organization of events. Another plus: He uses a vocabulary that most readers can understand without feeling they are being talked down to. Of course, it didn't hurt that Mick has led an incredible life. Put a good writer together with great raw material, and you come out with this something the caliber of this book -- the best autobiography I have ever read. This book would appeal to those who are not wrestling fans, but who are curious about people who have done extreme things, or simply turned their lives over to a cause. Mick's cause just happened to be professional wrestling. Kudos, Mick! You've done a great job.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK PROVES THAT FOLEY REALLY IS GOD! Review: This book wowed me and so did mick. I always knew he was a gifted wrestler but now i realize how talented he is at writing. I would tell ANYONE to read this book. Its not only for the wrestling fan but for those who need inspiration and for those who think that wrestling is all fake. This book proves otherwise. It has humor in it and tells the story of his hard work his family his losses and wins so wonderfully its hard to put this book down. I cant wait to see another book written by him. He truly is a family man, a wrestler and now he is an artist. Foley IS God!
Rating: Summary: REview Review: I did not know how to read until I heard that Mick Foley was writing a book. I was dedicated to learn how to read so I could read this book when it came out. I spent months with a program that I saw on television, and I can say, "Hooked on Phonics worked for me!" Just kidding of course. This was a very good book for wrestling fans. However, I do not believe that non-wrestling fans will find it so great. Would a non-wrestling fan find the DDP-cookies story funny? I don't think so. Like that story and numerous others, you have to be able to picture the wrestlers as they appear on television in order to really find the humor in some of the stories. This book was a very quick read. Like what has been mentioned earlier, there are quite a few spelling errors like spelling Bret Hart as Brett Hart and Gerald Brisco as Gerald Briscoe on one occasion. I purchased the book for the same reason that most people did, to get a behind-the-scenes look at the pro wrestling industry. There are lots of great and funny stories. A definite buy for wrestling fans. Hey, I bought mine for at Amazon.com. You can't beat that. A good Christmas gift for wrestling fans.
Rating: Summary: The BEST book i have ever read! Review: I have been a diehard wrestling fan for 23 years. I have seen them come and go.But,Mick Foley is without a doudt the greatest of all time. And i also have a hobbie of reading many different types of books. But this IS the greatest book i have ever read! I could not put it done.Mick is talking about retiring very soon and i have too say that i would like to see him in the ring for another five or ten years. But after learning what kind of loving father and husband that this man is,i can only say hang up the boots now Mankind and go out on top of the sport that you have given so much for.Buy this book if you have not already, you will not be sorry! once again 5 stars
Rating: Summary: Great Book and you will...... Review: this is one of the best wrestling autobiographies I have every read, the Dynamite Kid's was the only book to match it cover for cover, i recommend both of these books to wrestling fans.
Rating: Summary: Foley, "Hardcore Legend", and family man. Review: In Have a Nice Day, Mick takes us for one hell of a ride. From a teenager wanting to live out his dream of capturing gold while growing up in Long Island, to finally winning the title from the Rock in Worcester, it is a rollercoaster of a literary ride. You will laugh, cry, and respect what he and his collegues do for a living. Even the naysayers about the profession will have a new outlook on wrestling. I've been a life long fan of the WWF and was just a fan of Mankind. After reading this book I became a bigger fan of the legend. He also give good advice on inspiring wrestlers who also want to live out their dream like he did. Get a college degree first than start training. Not only is Foley hardcore he is a loving husband and father. His children should be proud of their big daddy-o.
Rating: Summary: An autiobiography with a "bang, bang"! Review: Although I'm a huge fan of Mick Foley and of pro wrestling in general, you don't have to be a fan to enjoy this terrific book, which is the best autobiography I've read in years! We Foley fans already knew that Mick was a very intelligent, ariticulate and well-educated man, so the quality of the prose is no surprise to us. Non-fans and fans alike will find this a spellbinding account of how an ordinary young man made his dream come true, becoming one of pro wrestling's most extraordinary and celebrated performers. With his compelling narrative and sparkling wit, Mick gives us an uncensored, from-the-hip account of his life and career. We really get to know the man behind the madness of Dude Love, Cactus Jack, and Mankind. Mick pulls no punches in describing all the unbelievable injuries he's accumulated and in describing his relatonships with other greats in the wrestling business. Ric Flair and WCW will never endorse this book, but I certainly do! Great work, Mick! BANG, BANG!
Rating: Summary: a most informative look at a scorned world Review: As a Foley fan I preordered this book. As a writer I opened it with a cringe: I knew my hero's background was not literary; I've seen a lot of the kind of writing that covers professional wrestling, and I expected the worst. What I got was a personal, personable, intelligent look at a life and at an industry which makes most people crazy (not to mention intolerant). Yes, Foley's tale is a bloody one. I would still recommend this book to anyone who wants to know why someone would become a pro wrestler or enjoy pro wrestling. The writing is fresh, direct and clear, and you are on Mick Foley's side if not from the opening passages, by the time he tells you about high school. His is a story about someone who gave up everything for a dream, and received almost everything in return--at a high price. Certainly I would want any kid who wanted to enter this business to read his tale. The main flaw here is the lack of serious editing: rewrites and cuts done responsibly would have tightened things up a bit. As it is, I hope Mr. Foley continues to write, because I think he has a talent worth pursuing, and an eye for and knowledge of a world that has seen far too much carnival writing. If he lacks for ideas, I have a few suggestions: I'd like to see his takes on the life of the legendary Terry Funk, of the Japanese and ECW wrestling circuits, and even a history of wrestling as a whole. I'm proud to be a Foley fan.
