Rating: Summary: First of all, a little explanation for non-wrestling fans... Review: Anyone who has followed this industry for a number of years realizes that the hits wrestlers take are not fake. They are very much real...as in blows from real steel fold-up chairs. Wrestlers do not use fake blood...in fact, most "blade" as the industry calls it. I'll let you explore the term and find out what it means. The "is wrestling real or fake" issues died years ago. Why is this being brought up? Second, the Hart Family is one of the few who have problems with the WWF's treatment of its employees. Let's look at all of the WCW wrestlers who left the organization because of the way they werre treated: Austin, HHH, Mankind, Paul wight, Chris Jericho, Big Bossman Ray Tralor, Jaqueline, X-Pac, the list goes on and on. When the lure of WCW's money wore off, these wrestlers went where opportunity was present and where work would be enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Mick Foley for President! Review: As a wrestling fan for many years I found this book to be a very enlightening look behind the scenes from one of the greatest performers to ever step inside the "squared cicle". Mick's storytelling is amazingly honest, and some times brutal in his recounting of his most memorable moments with some of todays top superstars. If you are a fan of WCW, ECW, or WWF, there's something here for everyone as he tells his history with each federation. Although Mick says this book is his life's work, he always has a sense of humor about himself that will make like him if you hate him. Love him if you like him, and always respect him. This book is a "must have" for true wrestling fans, and is sure to make Mick Foley into a national treasure, as well as true "Hardcore Legend".
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: i couldnt put the book down, and im not even a wrestling fa
Rating: Summary: Greatest of all time Review: This is by all time the greatest wrestling story of all time. Who ever said wrestlers were dumb and stupid have another thng comming just as soon as they read this book. There are many things that stick out in my mind from the 400 mile trips he took just to go to train or the nights he spent in the back of his little Ford car just to make a show. We can all say that he has guts especially with the things that he has done just to bring smiles to the millions and millions of people that watch each and every week. Let me just use one of those old fasioned phrases "It will make you laugh cry and everything else in between"! Take my word for it you will love it! HAVE A NICE DAY! :)
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: What a great book! Foley's ability to keep you interested never stops. As a wrestling fan, let me tell you that this is more than a book about fighting, its a book about life.
Rating: Summary: it was good Review: it was a little less than i expected...the WWF TV hyped it up a lot. what really angered me was they said it was his life's work yet it says it took him 7 weeks in the book itself. it is a very different look into pro wrestling, and everything that goes into it i have reviewed numerous books and i am mad now that this site didnt have the member profile earlier...o well anywho this was a really good book and i wish i can write a better review but i have a tummy ache and cant put my mind on it!
Rating: Summary: Last Words? Review: While the book is an indepth coverage of the professional wrestling world, the author may be overstating the actual violence that takes place during any given match. This is not to say that there is no actual violence in professional wrestling or that injuries don't take place. Mick Foley is evidence of that himself. However, Foley fails to mention such wrestling "gimmicks" such as the use of plastic chairs and other reconstructed foreign objects, artificial blood, stage props that enhance sound and visual effect, and padded clothing that absorbs the blows wrestler's receive. Also, Foley's deliberate obfuscation of the problems inhent in the WWF weaken his arguement that it is a better organization than the WCW. It is true that the WCW is a much weaker organization than the WWF - insofar as ratings and overall appeal. What is not true, however, is that the WCW treats its wrestlers worse than the WWF. Foley's problems with the WCW (of which this writer is not a fan) are not shared by other wrestlers - particularly the Hart family. Not to mention that makes it seem as if Foley is pandering to the interests of the WWF owner, Vince McMahon. What is really interesting about the book is how much work goes into being a professional wrestler and how competitive an environment it is. Foley's early years in wrestling and his phenomenal popularity are as much a tribute to his love for the profession as well as his mental and physical toughness. Mick Foley is an admirable person not only for the above reasons but also for his ability to communicate the perils of his sport to a large and ethusiastic audience. Most readers will be shocked at how well he can write - especially his elegy to Owen Hart. More will be impressed with his love for the game and ability to endure pain in order to entertain his millions of fans. Hopefully, there will be a sequel to this book following his stint in the WWF and subsequent retirement. That way, Foley will have a chance to write openly about his feelings toward both the WCW and the WWF.
Rating: Summary: An Insider's View of The Wrestling World Review: All wrestling fans know of Mick Foley, but few know who Mick Foley really is. This book is written BY Mick Foley, not a ghost writer or co-author. If you grew up watching Pro Wrestling, this book is a MUST READ...even if you are just a casual fan, HAVE A NICE DAY will give you an insider's view of the sport...If you think Pro Wrestlers are all just big, dumb guys, this book will change that prejudice forever.
Rating: Summary: A book from the heart Review: To be honest, I had a hard time putting this book down. From the hillariousness of his first match, to his triumpiant dream of winning the WWF world championship, this book has it all. It shows the tough road that this man has endured to fulfil his dream, it goes through many funny, and dramatic incidents along the way, and having been a wrestling fan for 17 years, it was amazing to learn about some of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Mick Foley is a fantastic storyteller and whether he admits to it or not, he is also "a hardcore legend". Foley truly is GOD. Well, at least a man to be looked up to - Great job.
Rating: Summary: Greatest Biography Ever Review: This Book is one of the best I have read the only one Better is Wired: Fat Times of John Belushi. This Book kept me up half the night. I couldn't put it down. Very well written for a first time writer... I hope Mick (not Mike) keeps writin as he will soon retire from wrestling...
