Rating: Summary: a waste of time Review: I'm a big fan of Alias and while I am find the story of how Sydney Bristow became an agent of SD-6 is surely an interesting story, in the book my fascination was slowly destroyed by Lynn Mason's pendantic and childlike writing. I'm very unsure why this book was targed for middle school girls and dispointed in how this tranlated into butchering Sydney's character. Yes she was shy and bookish, but there were certainly defter ways to illustate this. The Dean Carrouthers plotline, ripped out of some Sweet Valley High book could have easily been done away with.I did like how Francie was potrayed and that we get a glimpse of charcters like Noah, Dixon, and Sloane who will become very imporant in Sydney's future. I did not like that no one can adequatly explain how Sydney becomes a super blackbelt karate fighter in 6 months. it.does.not.happen.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Alias Book Review: I'm a huge Alias fan, so I went straight out to buy this book. I think it's wonderful. The show itself is amazing but I've always been curious about Sydney's beginning years as a spy. This book gives fans further insight into the characters and their pasts. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Great Prequel! Review: I'm not a big reader, but once I picked up Recruited, I didn't get up again for 2 hours and 15 minutes, after I'd finished it cover to cover. This is a great book! Everything ties in perfectly with Alias; Noah Hicks, all her specialties (track & field, the different languages), everything! If you're an Alias fan, this will really give you a better understanding of how Sydney evolved into the confident double agent we know and love her as.
Rating: Summary: So that's how it all started... Review: If you have ever wondered how Sydney became the person she is today, you must read this book. As a huge fan of the TV show, I found it necessary to read about her life prior to the show. This book gives you an honest look at a young, naive and clumsy Sydney that is a far different person from the confident, self-reliant person she is now. I found the reading to be entertaining with an interesting plot line. I will say that it took a turn I was not expecting. It's a an easy read, but it is still worth it. I strongly recommend this book if you are a fan of the show. I guarantee you won't be disappointed and you will be looking for the next book almost immediately!
Rating: Summary: Recruited: Must have read! Review: If you'd like to know more about Sydney Bristow- her background, who she used to be before she realized the truth about SD-6 and joined the CIA, be sure to pick up "Recruited". As a prequel to the current timeline of "Alias", "Recruited" tells the story of how Sydney was recruited for SD-6 and her life as she changed following the days of joining what she then thought was a black-ops division of the CIA. Fast paced and full of action, this is an excellent read to any "Alias" fan as well as newcomer to the show.
Rating: Summary: The Making Of A Super Agent Review: Let's be honest...Only die-hard fans of the show will bother looking at this book. The beginning of the story gives us a glimpse of life from Syd's world. She is self-aware of her flaws, but it is those characteristics that we identify with as viewers. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the book was geared towards young adults but it didn't really bother me nor did I find that it took away from Syd's story. Beginning with the college years, gives you a baseline of how Syd has grown. As you read about Francie, you can just see her flitting around Westwood, chatting up the guys, and hearing about all the parties. She is definitely a girl who doesn't let the grass grow under her feet. On the show, she has matured from this but basically is still the go-getter from her early days. If I remember correctly, Syd and Francie met Will at UCLA yet he is not discussed at all in the book. Also, there was no mention of Danny Hecht, her deceased fiancé. (With this show, you never know and he may show up as an agent from another agency) I thought the story of her rise within SD-6 was interesting for the most part. It really sets the reader for additional books on the years prior to the show. The "boring" years of doing intel reporting wasn't too descriptive and we didn't hear too much of her personal life during this time. However, once she is brought into the heart of SD-6, it picks up momentum. Her interest of Noah Hicks, another SD-6 agent, is the first time we see how these two met. The story stops before they start dating, which we know they do from the show. There are minimal details about Dixon, except to introduce him. In all, the story was entertaining and a quick read. There was room for additional info but I guess they want to save more for the next book(s). Syd's character is true to the show and nothing rang false as I read the book. It would be fun to have a few flashback episodes that would cover these years.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money. Review: Ok, I wanted to like this, I really did, I even bought the silly book, but it's just not worth it. As Victor Garber (Jack Bristow) once said "...back stories are overrated." In this case he was right. There is absolutely nothing you needed with which to understand the show encompassed between the two cheesey covers. Compared to the show, the writing level is very poor. Chances are if you are young enough that you are impressed by this book's scholastic merits, then you are too young to understand the show anyways.
Rating: Summary: Let the Adventure Begin Review: See how it all started. A wonderful companion to the Alias series. An addiction that cannot be denied.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Background to the TV Show Review: Sydney Bristow has finally entered college. Reserved and a book worm, she hopes to find independence in the academic setting. But making friends and finding a good job isn't all it's cracked up to be. She's getting discouraged when her life changes forever. One day, a stranger offers her a job as an agent for SD-6, a covert branch of the CIA. Once her training begins, a new world opens up to her. But is she really capable of fitting in to this new world? As a diehard fan of the TV show, I had to read this book. I was very impressed by it. Even though fans already know the basics of what is presented here, the author still manages to make it interesting. I had a hard time putting it down, dying to know what happened next. Furthermore, the author maintains continuity with the show for even small details, which is great fun for fans. The characters read like they sound on TV, and I was also impressed by the author's use of the cast of characters. Not all the characters from the show appear in this book or play major roles, which perfectly fits the show's timeline. My only complaint is that the first chapter spends a bit too long giving us the background on Syd we know from the show without developing this novel's plot. Overall, it's a fast, entertaining read that will please fans of the series. I'm looking forward to future prequel novels.
Rating: Summary: Fans of the TV series will LOVE reading this book!! Review: The book Alias: Recruited is just as enjoyable as watching the TV series that the book is based on. The book is about a college student named Sydney Bristow, a freshman at UCLA. College was suppose to be a new beginning for Sydney, a chance to begin a new life of her own. Sydney finds that college life is not at all what she thought it would be its even BETTER...... I found the book was better than expected because it had small changes from that of the TV series. By making these changes the fans of the show will be turning the pages to find out what happens next. This is a must read for those who enjoy reading books with action, drama and spies. And for those who never seen the TV series will start to watch after reading this book!
