Rating: Summary: The Life Lessons Could Have Been Written Better Review: In any life one learns things of value which could be shared with others to help them understand our world. Maya Angelou obviously had many interesting experiences, but the manner in which she tells is, well, perverted. Sure she was raped and had a promiscuous sexual encounter. But, really, how is the explicit and graphic description going to help me? How will this perversion make me a better person? And the short response to that is: It won't.
Rating: Summary: A great autobiography of a girl growing in times of racism. Review: This is the best book that I have ever read! It gives a good mix of fun and games and tragic circumstances. Me, not being black, got the full feel of being one when racism is at it's fullest. I have read many of Ms. Angelou's books, but I feel that this is her writing at its absolute best!
Rating: Summary: This Book is an excellent book. This book is a good buy. Review: The biography of Maya Angelou. In this book it tells all about her negative experiences in her life. Everything that she experiences in her life is amazing, and to think a black girl once went through all of this is very tough to believe. This book is great and everyone should read it to find out what a little girl went through in the first sixteen years in her life.
Rating: Summary: I think that this was an excellent book. Review: I think that this is an excellent book. Maya Angelou is a talented author who can entertain as well as teach her readers. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is an awesome book that I loved. This is one of my favorite books. I suggest this book to anyone who wants a great book to read.
Rating: Summary: This book is WONDERFUL! Review: I was not too thrilled when I started reading the book because it wasn't very clear. But, as I kept reading it made more and more sense. By the end of the book I think I felt alomst every emotion there is by putting myslef in Maya's shoes.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: Maya is so amazing...she offers a glimpse into the heart. She makes us want to experiece our emotions at the top of our being.
Rating: Summary: I'm not Singing Review: It would have been a meager attempt even if the blatant narrative was substantial, even though this story of Maya's convoluted life may be a desperate plea of painful expression. But, as far as the actual meaning of this book, this bird dies in captivity.
Rating: Summary: A Lifetime of Memories Review: I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou is one of the best books I have read. This story takes place back in Arkanasas. It's about a brother and a sister who are left with the image of a horrible past. They go through so many tragedgies yet grow up to become a respectable author, which is true for Maya's case. This book is a symbolism for freedom of race or ethnicity or freedom of individuality. -Joan
Rating: Summary: Excellent depiction of a young black girl's life. Review: I had to read this book for school and initially I was not too excited about it. But as i read on, the book enraptured me into reading on to find out how Maya deals with all the tribulations that there are as a young black girl growing up in Stamps, Arkansas. Her life shifts after all of the problems and she still turns out okay. It sure teaches you alot about life and makes you thankful for not having to go through what she had to. Plus, it inspires you to do good with your life, as Maya definately did.
Rating: Summary: Trendy nonexistant issues Review: Once the trendy women's issues are cleared aside, there is absolutely no literary merit to this book. People just like to look at certain issues and pretend like they are a problem because of the fact that they are not a problem. If there is no problem then no actual work is involved. You can just say that you were a part of something, possibly something great, because 20 years after there actually was a problem you recognized it. Maya Angelou is no different. I feel no sorrow for her. I found this book to be empty and meaningless.
