Rating: Summary: What an ending! Review: The O'Shaughnessy twins are famous for their surprise endings, but to say that this book was full of surprises would be a gross understatement. Just when you think you know where things are going, the authors twist you in another direction. Best book by the authors to date, without a doubt. I could not wait to go out and buy the next book to see how things turned out.
Rating: Summary: Expect better from these good authors Review: Their other books were much better - ok much might be exaggerating a bit. The others were very good whilst this one was just good. Nina Reilly too emotional and soft and rather unbelievable. Hope the next book will revert to the quality we have become accustomed to.
Rating: Summary: Hard luck Nina does it again Review: These two sisters really know how to captivate a reader. Nina Reilly is a likeable, realistic character one can't help identify with. Acts of Malice is the latest in a fine series of novels about the struggling Lake Tahoe attorney Nina Reilly's quest for justice and meaning in her life. When she thinks she's figured it all out, the rug gets pulled out from under her. We can all identify with that can't we. I highly recommend this and all the books in the series.
Rating: Summary: A Trip to Lake Tahoe Review: This book is my introduction to "O'Shaugnessy" and it's a winner. I read a lot of mysteries - some of which I never finish - why bother. This one held my attention all the way through. The authors' 'sense of place' is remarkable. The reader 'sees' the Lake Tahoe locale. It's well written and plotted though the reader also sees what's coming. In this sense, it's more a tale of suspense than mystery. Despite this, the finale was particularly gripping. As a fan of Elizabeth George, Ruth Rendell, James Lee Burke on the heavy side and Sue Grafton, Robert Parker, James Crais on the more flip side, I found the romantic involvement of the characters perhaps too prominent but as it turned out - it was quite integral to the plot. (We mystery readers tend to be picky-picky about the genre). I would recommend this book - this 'writer', (two writers, actually - sisters who are probably well attuned to each other) to other mystery fans. I haven't yet read another of this series but I've already picked up a couple. Stay tuned.
Rating: Summary: wonderful Review: This book was fantastic--I could not put it down--Great authors--They really keep you on your toes. Best book I have read in years. Now I want to get thier other books. When do I clean my house???
Rating: Summary: What happened to Hitchcock? Review: This book was not bad, but we lost the dog somewhere around the middle and unless I missed it, he simply vanished. Also, a stepsister is not the same as a half-sister.
Rating: Summary: The O'Shaughnessy sisters have outdone themselves! Review: This is the best book of a really great series. I greatly admired their first four books, but this book was really outstanding. I would suggest that if you want to try these books, you should start out with their first, "Motion to Suppress". I feel like these characters are people I really know. When something happens to one of them, I mourn them just as I would a friend. I think that's the test of great writing - to make you forget you're reading a book and make you think it's real. The O'Shaughnessys certainly do that.
Rating: Summary: Another Solid Performance Review: This is the fifth of the series I have read and found thoroly (who needs the silent ugh?) enjoyable. Well, almost. The ending seemed more than a bit contrived. But minor carping aside, I really enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to the next in the series.
Rating: Summary: Inconsistent Review: This is the first book I've read in this series. It grabbed me good at the beginning with the crime/legal story line, but became so contrived and simplistic with the "romance" between Nina and Collier. It's almost as if I could tell where one sister stopped writing and the other started. I felt like a ping-pong ball going back and forth between great suspense and tacky romance. I stuck with it because the "thriller" aspect was very good.
Rating: Summary: First time reader Review: This is the first O'Shaughnessy book I have read and I am hooked on the character Nina Reilly. The plot keeps the reader guessing and characters really come to life. The picturesque descriptions of Lake Tahoe are better than a travel brochure. The only drawback is the weak dialogue and occasional "diarrhea" of the exclamation point. Overall, a suspenseful story right up to the end.
