Rating: Summary: This is a fine read. Review: I saw a movie trailer for this story three years ago, and I had to know the plot. When my friend told me that it is based on a book, I got a copy from my local library and devoured it. The story was nothing that I thought it would be, but I loved it just the same. There was one drawback though. Nancy Ekholm Burkert's illustartions were a little too bland for me. Don't get me wrong, she is a fine artist, but I don't think that her art fit the tone of the novel. But when Lane Smith's edition was released, those were drawing that fit the book like a glove. They had a wacked-out, zany, and slightly dark tone to them, and suited the escapist feel of the book. Overall, this is a wonderful childrens' book. I'm fifteen and I still read it secretly by myself. The movie can't compare to this story. Buy it and treasure it.

Rating: Summary: Wonderfull!!!! Review: I loved this book! I absolutly loved the part where the cloud peopole threw snow balls at them. Roald Dahl TRULY used imagination into his book. James in the Giant Peach is a little more on the serios note than other Roald Dhal books. you will love this book!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This book never gets boring! Review: This book starts off really quick; just they way I like it. It is about a boy who lost his parents at the age of three. He lives with his aunts. See how he gets away with the help of some of his bug friends. (The book is much better than the movie.)
Rating: Summary: It had too much name calling in it Review: This book was good except that the aunts and bugs were always calling James names.Once the centapied called James an ass!
Rating: Summary: simply the best children's book ever Review: This book was originally read to me by my first grade teacher in 1969. I'm convinced it developed my love of reading. To this day I occasionally pick up my copy with the original illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert and waste an hour or two reading it from cover to cover. I am always curious to know if I'm the only one who has ever noted that when James "looks on a very clear day, in the right direction, can see a tiny gray dot on the horizon which is the house he used to live in", you really CAN see a tiny dot in the illustration!
Rating: Summary: Totally RAD! Review: This book was very adventurous. It was great when aunt sponge and spiker got run over by the peach. The bugs were really funny when they said some of their rhymes. If you want to find out how James got to New York you should read this book.
Rating: Summary: Even as an adult I love this story! Review: I read "James and the Giant Peach" when I was in fourth grade and then in fifth grade and then again in SEVENTH grade! (Of course, then I had to hide this fact because it wasn't "cool" to read "kids'" books) Knowing my love for the story as a child, my mother bought the movie for me and I decided to pick up the book again. The movie doesn't compare (as is the case with most movies).I still love the story and should a child have an imagination, he OR she will love this book! Chances are they will read and re-read it as well! My fullest recommendation goes to any parent who has a child that loves to read. The story will expand a kid's love for reading, love for imagination, and love for...well...peaches.
