Rating: Summary: Mystery and not yucky love story. Review: I throughly enjoyable book with a heroine that you can't help but want to read more of. This is the first of her books that I have read. Today I ordered four or five more!!
Rating: Summary: I love Peabody! Review: I have read this book so many times I've lost count! Elizabeth Peters has now written several books in the Amelia Peabody series, but none I love as well as this one. Amelia is a stong, out-spoken, self-reliant feminist in a era when such behavior was stifled in women. She and her companion, Evelyn Barton-Forbes meet Walter Emerson and his brother Radcliffe, an intelligent but belligerent archeologist who soon realizes he's met his match in Amelia. These are characters I wish I could meet in real life, which is why I continue to revisit them from time to time, both in this book and the sequels. A very fun read with characters that grab you from the get-go! Thank you Ms. Peters, for all the great hours of entertainment you've given me with your books! If you enjoy this book, check out her writings under the name Barbara Michaels. You're in for a treat!
Rating: Summary: Treasure found! Review: I had 'discovered' Elizabeth Peters' wonderful writing in the 'Victoria Bliss' series. Having exhausted that series I turned to the Amelia Peabody novels...and I was not disappointed! Amelia Peabody is a wonderful character and though the character of Emerson is equally wonderful the book does not depend on the 'romantic' aspects to carry it through. The heroine and the story line move the reader through a grand adventure in egypt. I learned, but was never, never bored by the side-trips into Egyptian history or archeological descriptions. I can not say enough about this book. Definately worth a read!
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: The way Elizabeth Peters writes her books keeps you on the edge of your seat, and makes you wonder when the next book is coming out. The latest book in the series, 'The Ape that guards the balance'goes further than any other Peabody mystery by adding the letters of Ramses and Neferet. I highly recommend reading all of the Peabody mysteries!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful start to a FABULOUS series! Review: Elizabeth's Peters first Amelia Peabody mystery, which still stands out as my favorite. I loved all the characters,Amelia, Eveline, Emerson, Walter, Abdullah. Once you start reading her books you can't stop. They are addictive! If you're looking for mystery, romance, humor, and Egyptology, this series is definately for you!!!!
Rating: Summary: great book - hilarious and informative, too! Review: I knew I loved this book the first time I read it, but I loved it even more when I got into my Egyptian Art class in college and realized I already knew so much about the sites and pyramids and things. I was so excited when I recognized all the sites at Amarna! I also love Amelia dearly, with her sense of humor, her "modesty," and her opinionated views on absolutely everything. And Emerson is great!
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC, ENTERTAINING,HUMOROUS Review: Amelia Peabody is someone to be admired. Elizabeth Peters does an incredible job of portraying her persona. I identify with the character in her witticism, sharp tongue, and intuitiveness....something we all want to be
Rating: Summary: My First Time... Review: with this author. I was not disappointed but neither totally amazed by any incredile talent. She is a but humourous, easy to follow and somewhat interesting. Her characters are well developed, the plot reasonable and allows the reader a slight chance of unsolving the mystery before the author unfolds the story completely.
Rating: Summary: This book ans the rest that follows are terrific Review: i love reading this book!!! I have read it 5 or 6 times along w/ the rest of the books. I disliked mysterys until my mother handed me this book and told me I'd like it. I love the way Amelia is so "no-nonsense". My favorite parts are were she pokes people w/ her parasol. This has to be one of my favorite books of all time. Read these books!! You not only laugh, but you learn all about Egypt.
Rating: Summary: I love Amelia Peabody! Review: This first book in the Amelia series is by far the best, even though I've loved all of the them. The romance in this one is touching and the transformation of Amelia into an adventurer and a romantic heroine was delightful! My advice is that you keep this one, because you'll want to reread it occasionally!
