Rating: Summary: An exciting book about one of the most devastating climbs Review: Please read Anatoli Bookreev's "The Climb" for another accurate viewpoint about this tragedy
Rating: Summary: An exciting, interesting, wellthought out book. Review: Sure, most book reviews are really boring, and you really are convinced NOT to read it.... so this is my theory...if you'd like to learn more about Mt. Everest......READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Gripping and chilling Review: I cannot recall any book that was as difficult to put down as "Into Thin Air". Krakauer combines an insider's knowledge of mountaineering with a journalist's detachment from the "big money" of professional tour-guide style climbing. The early portions of the book are filled with a sense of grim foreboding, and yet I was still shocked and heartbroken at the fates of the various climbers. However you read it--as a classic tale of hubris, as a revealing story of personal relationships under pressure, or simply as a well-written adventure--this is a first-rate story.
Rating: Summary: the story was riveting, and very upsetting. Review: I felt that the story was very sad, and a fine example of how high altitudes can affect one's judgement, even if that person happens to be a paid guide. Mr. Krakauer was very adept at painting the picture and creating the scenario in a very well-paced manner. At times, while reading the book, I was left breathless and found myself shivering while reading. Just laying in bed bundled up I tried to imagine what sleeping in a bivouac above 24,000 feet must be like. I hope that's as close as I ever get.
Rating: Summary: a terrific read. riveting suspense and human drama. Review: WHEN A FRIEND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED I READ THIS BOOK, I DEBATED WHETHER TO HUMOR HIM OR NOT. AS SOMEONE WHO HAS NEVER HAD ANY INTEREST IN MOUNTAINEERING, I WAS SKEPTICAL THAT I WOULD FIND IT OF MUCH INTEREST. BOY WAS I WRONG. IT IS BEYOND A DOUBT ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ-AND I HAVE READ MANY. KRAKAUER'S HARROWING ACCOUNT STAYS WITH YOU LONG AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED READING . THE EVENTS OF THE FINAL TWO DAYS OF THE ASCENT ARE UNFORGETABLE. I SIMPLY COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN.
Rating: Summary: WE Luv this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "the climb" SUX!!!!!! Review: Into Thin Air gives ALL the facts. The Climb leaves out ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic - smooth read about a whole different world. Review: An awesome combination of the drama of the climb and the technical details of mountaneering that most people never come across. I am not a huge reader, but this one is worth it (sorry for sounding like an advertisement).
