Summary: A book that leaves a lasting impression
Review: I found this book in my Aunt's house when I was a young child, 12 - 15 years ago. "David and the Phoenix" made a lasting impression on me. I never liked to read much, until I read this book. My family lives at the base of a mountain and we did and still do a lot of hiking. Hiking and my love for all animals helped me relate to this book and I have loved to read ever since. My Aunt can't find this book anymore, probably one of her grandchildren got a hold of it, but I wrote down information about the book when I was a kid, hoping to find a copy for myself. I just happened upon that piece of paper and found that it was a 1958 Edition - Selection of the Weekly Reader, Children's Book Club - Education Center published by Follett Publishing Company, Chicago. Manufactured in the United States of America by American Book-Stratford Press, Inc., NY. Published simultaneously in Canada by Ambassador Books, Limited. Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 57-8280. I recently tried to find a copy and had no luck. This is my last hope of finding the book so that the children I hope to have someday soon can enjoy it too.

Summary: Discovering the magic of reading
Review: Of the thousands of books I've read in the past 40 years, from the classics to the pulpiest, few have approached the impact of this wonderful story. It opened my eyes to the wonders of imagination springing alive from the printed page--I have read this story to all of my children, and each has loved it as much as I do. It is a remarkably underappreciated treasure.

Summary: Got me to love to read
Review: As a young child, David and the Phoenix was the book that showed me how fun reading can be. A book for kids that love animals and hiking.

Summary: A truly wonderful book
Review: I first read this book over 40 years ago as a fifth-grader. I started reading it at school one morning and I couldn't stop reading it. I hid it behind my textbooks, finished it, took it home and reread it that night. It was a library book and I had not seen another copy for 30 years when I serendipitously found a tattered paperback copy at a yard sale. I was delighted to reread it and have my own copy. I'm glad to hear it's being filmed.

Summary: A Hidden Classic
Review: Indeed this story of a lonely boy befriending THE Phoenix, their adventures with other mythological beings, escaping the evil scientist and the bittersweet climax is powerful, and lasting. I am happy to say this "hidden classic" will soon be a motion picture, introducing this great story to a whole new generation... and re-introducing it to their parents still so fond of it.

Summary: I THINK I'M GOING BACK
Review: My teacher read this book to the class when I was very young. I can't remember a book, before or since, that seemed to make quite the same impression. I moved frequently as a boy, and found myself, both then and now, looking for that mountain. It's a shame a book that made such a lasting impression on obviously so many people has been unavailable for so long. I am very pleased to note that comments from other readers support my long time admiration of the book. I look forward to finding and sharing David and the Phoenix with other "mountain climbers."

Summary: A fantasy I have treasured since childhood
Review: This was the first "long" book I read after I learned to read, and I immediately loved it. Years later, I returned to it, delighted to find that I had not outgrown it, that it was not hackneyed or childish. I found a used copy a few years ago that I will never give up for anything.

Summary: The imagination is given all rights to wander freely
Review: I read this book 33 years ago and to this day,
still think back on the images it created.
I always put in my responses, when asked what
I would do if I won the lottery, to put this
book to film and bring the magic of this
young boy and his friend to the screen --
forcing a much-needed reprint.

Summary: A treasure I will never forget
Review: I first read this book when I was 9. It belonged to a friend I was visiting for the summer. Twelve years later I was talking with another friend who also remembered it as one of the most memorable he had ever read. A year or two later I actually found a hardbound copy in a used book store in Dallas. I have read it several times since and can't wait until my daughter gets old enough to share the magic, the sadness, and the joy that reading about David's friendship with a mythical creature brought to me first over 30 years ago

Summary: Read this in 3rd grade and still remember the plot!
Review: One of the few books that I read as a child that I have never, ever forgotten. It was a library book--and I have never found it to buy anywhere. I would dearly love to have a copy of it--even if I am a 43 year old mother of two
