Review: I read this book when i was 5 or 6. it is one of the most beautiful stories i have read in my 44 years. An incredible story of love, friendship, adventure, loss and letting go. I almost cried when i opened up the reviews and found so many like minds---it is wonderful to share something so meaningful and enduring.

Summary: A magical and enthralling children's adventure story
Review: I'm 51 years old and I read this book in either 1958 or 1959. I received it from a children's book club I subscribed to for that summer. I gave it the highest rating because it was the first book that so thoroughly took my interest and stimulated my imagination. It's the book that showed me what a wonderful adventure reading could be. I must admit that after 40 years I'm not sure I would enjoy it as much as I did as a child, but I would like to see a copy and find out. This is a book that can show a child how rewarding an activity reading can be.

Summary: Best book I had as a kid
Review: I am 50. Mom got me this book when I was about 10. I loved it then and loved it as a grown up. A wonderful story. Saved the copy for my kids and now my grandkids. It is ragged and worn and I sure would like to find another copy. This wonderful story should not be lost to the generations to come. It captured my imagination as a child and I have never forgotten the story. It was (and still is) exciting, thrilling, scary and absolutely the best adventure. Review: I have a Macmillan Reading Spectrum copy of this book that was given to me years ago, its in miserable shape. Always a favorite - and now I want to pass this on to my niece. Surprised to find it out-of-print with so little information about the author. Someone save this book! Here it goes: Do it for the children! :)

Review: My dad read the book and he thought it was great.When I read the book I felt happy and sad.It was my favorite book and always will be.I think there should be a sequal so we can find ou if the golden bird remembers David and does the scientist shoot te bird.

Summary: One of the best kids books out there!
Review: My mom loved this book so much when she was a kid, she swiped her brother's copy of it! It was this wonderful full color hardcover that she later read to us, her daughters. I can't bring myself to continue the family tradition of swiping it from her, so I needed my own copy. Wish I could find it in hardcover! Every child should read this book at least once! (If anyone knows where I can get one . . .)
