Rating: Summary: A great classic-one of my favorite books!! Review: This book is really funny and also keeps you interested so that you won't put down the book till you have read it all!The book is about an orphaned 11-year old girl named Anne Shirley. She has red hair that matches her temper, is skinny, and also has an unstoppable mouth! The two things she most wishes for is for a permanent and wonderful home and the other wish is that she becomes beautiful when she grows up. She has big imagination and a enormous heart which charms everyone she meets. Marilla Cupberth and her brother Matthew are getting old and Matthew needs some help on their farm called Green Gables which is on and island called Prince Edward Island. Matthew and Marilla decides to adopt a boy around 11 or 12 to help Matthew. Some sort of queer mistake happens, Matthew calles it Providence later on, when Anne Shirley is sent from the orphanage instead of the boy they were expecting. Matthew figures that he couldn't leave her waiting at the train platform and brings her back to Green Gables, listening to her relentless tongue helplessly but rather enjoyingly. Marilla is shocked and proposes to send her back to the orphanage the very next morning. Anne, being very happy about living at Green Gables, is very depressed. Marilla and Anne goes back to the orphanage where they discover that another woman who is very strict had been wanting a girl around 11 or 12. The orphanage lady quickly decides that Anne would be that girl. Marilla feels rather sorry for Anne and brings her back to Green Gables. Anne, after being able to spend another night, is overjoyed as Marilla decides to let her stay permanently. Matthew is overjoyed too because he had somehow liked Anne's chattering. She meets a "busom friend" called Diana Barry at a picnic, cracks her slate over a boy called Gilbert Blythe who had teased her about her red hair in her first day of school, falls of the ridgepole of the roof of a house because of a dare, and dyes her hair green because she had wanted to make her red hair black! Fortunately, she does not stay a child of trouble, though she does stay a person who has a tongue which is used a lot. She passes an hard exam to collage and becomes first in every subject, always tieing with her hated rivalry Gilbert Blythe, who she has a grudge on since that day when he had called her hair "Carrots!". She also becomes a beautiful lady who has now auburn hair and no sign of her hated red hair. Marilla and Matthew has every right to be proud of her and you'll be proud with them as your read this charming book! As I said before, this book is funny and also is soo interesting. I read this over 5 times and it has still not become boring. You'll love Anne Shirley forever as and after you read this book!
Rating: Summary: Anne of Green Gables Picture Book...Lovely! Review: Please note this review is for the hardcover picture book edition of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables, adapted by M.C. Helldorfer and illustrated by Ellen Beier. It is not meant to be a review of the unabridged original novel. Just as I love every one of L.M. Montgomery's tales of Prince Edward Island, particularly all of her Anne books, I love this charming picture book adaptation of her best loved and well-known book, Anne of Green Gables. This is a delightful introduction to the world of Anne Shirley, the plucky red-headed orphan girl with the poetic and romantic soul, who wins the hearts of everyone she meets...eventually! Ellen Beier has done a remarkable job bringing the characters and events of this delightful book to life with her colorful illustrations of a bygone day. In 38 pages the key events in the story are covered with sufficient detail to capture the charm of the original book and are sure to whet the appetite for more details of the beloved Anne and her friends and family of Avonlea. We join the shy and quiet Matthew Cuthbert at the train station when he first discovers that the "boy" he and his sister, Marilla expected to adopt is an eleven year old girl with red hair, whose dreamy imagination fuels her non-stop friendly banter all the way back to their home, called Green Gables. We share in Anne's misery when she learns Marilla wants to send her back! We meet Anne's best friend Diana Barry. We suffer along with Anne when she is unjustly accused of losing Marilla's heirloom brooch. We meet the handsome tease Gilbert Blythe who taunts Anne with the name Carrots until he feels the crack of her school slate on his head. This book illustrates Anne's misguided attempt to change her hated red hair color and shows her misery when it turns out GREEN! Worse yet, she then needs to get shorn like a sheep. Oh the agony of embarassment! Speaking of embarassing moments, we are there when Anne, play-acting as Elaine, the Lily Maid of Astolat, finds her "funeral barge" has sprung a leak and (oh horrors!) she must be rescued by none other than the hated Gilbert Blythe. We are there as Anne slowly, bit by bit, creates a permanent happy place in the lives of the Cuthberts and of all who know her. The book leaves off on the happy occasion of Anne recieving a beautiful longed for dress with the coveted and fashionable puffed sleeves that the practical Marilla had originally frowned upon as frivolous. Alot of Anne's characterization is omitted, necessarily, from this shortened version but her charm and verve still shine through. I think this is a great first Anne book and I hope it will help bring the beloved stories to an ever widening readership.
Rating: Summary: A classic for all generations Review: "Anne of Green Gables" is one of the best novels I ever read. Rich on her descriptions people and places and understanding of human nature, L. M. Montgomery fills the pages of this book with the life of a young orphan and her adventures in a strange and conservative land. Anne's charming lays on her humanity. She has faults (like her terrible temper and her vanity) and at the same time is a wonderful, good-hearted, imaginative and gentle girl. the changes she causes on the village of Avonlea, with her sincerity and imagination will remain forever. "Anne of Green Gables" is that kind of book that you cannot stop reading untill it ends and when it does, you feel terribly sorry and want to start reading it again. "Anne of Green Gales" is also one of this novels with a moral background, writen to "teach people something", like "Little Women" or "Pollyana". But it is a classic and should be read by all adults and children that believe in the magic of life and how wonderfull life can be.
Rating: Summary: Anne of Green Gables Review: In Anne of Green Gables, the first installment of eight books, Lucy Maud Montgomery writes about Anne, a red-headed orphan who goes to live with the Cuthberts on Prince Edward Island. This book is set in the late 1800s. I liked this book because I could relate/connect to the twelve-year old's thoughts and problems. The best part about the book was that I realized how lucky I am to have parents and a best friend. This book was so memeorable that I remember every detail from the book, and the book made me laugh. I would give this book a five star rating for its superior style of capturing my imagination and love for this book. I would recommend this book to anyoone who can read and is above ten years old.

Rating: Summary: I really liked this book Review: Reading about Anne as a girl is a good introduction into the world of Anne as a lady. This book doesn't merit rereading as much as the others, but it's still very good.
Rating: Summary: Anne- The wonderful spirit we can love forever Review: I am now an adult, and let me tell you, many years after initally falling in love with Anne, I still absolutely love the Anne series of books. This is a character with so much heart, vivacity, energy, imagination; she is a true "kindred spirit" and I thoroughly recommend the book to all! For those who have read the book, there is a great miniseries of Anne of Green Gables AND Anne of Avonlea (the second installment in the Anne series)that can probably be rented at any [local video store]. This is great way to relive the book, and it is done so well. For those who have kids, they'll love it, heck I still love to watch it. Best Anne wishes to all!
Rating: Summary: Out of the doldrums with Anne, (with an "e") Review: I love this book! From the very start the dialouge intrigued me.The characters come to life in this rich layered epic tale of the orphaned Anne Shirley and her adolescent struggles which lead to many triumphs in this well told life drama. I particularly enjoyed the contrasting characters. Anne, with her talkative and energetic mannerisms. Marilla, the extremely dour Matriarch of Green Gables and soft spoken Mathew, the hard working brother of Marilla. Each character compliments one another even when they are clashing up against each other with opposing views. This tale swept me up and away from my life and delivered me into this magical place, Green Gables, a place, which I never want to leacve.
Rating: Summary: Lovely, but abridged Review: Who, if not Megan Follows, could read Anne of Green Gables? This is a wonderful collection, but not, as labled, unabridged. After listening to the tapes, we cross-checked with the books, and noticed significant gaps, many missing chapters. If you want the complete books, try another collection. That's what we have to do.
Rating: Summary: For Any Girl with a Scope of Imagination~ Review: I have wanted to read Anne of Green Gables for so long and finally did. Why did I wait?? I wish I would have read this book years ago. This is one of the best books I have ever read. Whether you are a child or adult you won't be able to help falling in love with Anne of Green Gables. This young Orphan is mistakenly sent to the home of brother and sister Matthew and Marilla. What they wanted was a boy to help around the house as they were getting older. What they got was a delightful little girl who warmed their hearts and touched their souls. Anne gets into all kinds of hijinks throughout the novel that will make you laugh with her and cry with her. Her imagination is unmatched. She is so insightful that you will find it impossible not to relate to her. Follow Anne through her escapades of learning what it is like to be wanted and loved by parents, finding her place in a strange school, and finally getting to have a bosom buddy..someone she can truly call a friend and share life's ups and downs with. As Anne sets one ambition after another for herself, you'll be cheering for her success. This would be a great book to read on your own or along with a child. When you're finished, Anne will feel like your own personal bosum buddy. This book is one you'll adore long after it's over.
