Rating: Summary: Beautiful Tale of Childhood Review: Between dying her hair green to scaring herself senseless with her own ghost stories, Anne is the charmingly imaginative orphan who cheerfully and melodramatically won the hearts of Matthew and Marilla. Showing strength where girls aren't supposed to, and being intellligent where girls are supposed to be dumb, Anne is a wonderful role model who gets through life on her imagination and her determination to make her way in the world. And she even gets the guy in the end and realizes her dreams of going to Queens to get her teaching degree. With a charming sense of humor that leaves you laughing one minute and crying the next at Anne's trials, this novel is a must for any young girl and should be a requirement for young readers.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't get any better. Review: My wife, my sisters, my three daughters, every one of them read this book and fell in love with it. I actually read it myself and enjoyed it, although I think it is more of a classic for girls and young women. Anne is such a terrific character, so smart, interesting, complex, empathetic, a real peach. The story itself is charming, fun, emotional, heart wrenching, powerful. If you're looking for a gift for a girl from 10 to 15, I don't see how you could buy a more perfect book. The writing sparkles, the pages turn, the story is addictive, it is a wonderful book!

Rating: Summary: what a sassy girl (for her times but not now) Review: Personal response: I enjoyed reading this book and I think many children will love to read the entire Anne series. Anna at times is a bit overly good, for example Anne wins the top grade in the entire county. Nonetheless, at the time this book was published its portrayal of Anne was groundbreaking. Compared to other books published during this period Anne was sassy and a freethinker. I think Anne of Green Gables will continue to be read by schoolchildren for many more years to come. Evaluation: Eleven year old Anne is an engaging character who the reader immediately gains sympathy for. Anne's outgoing, spontaneous personality serves as a sharp contrast to the staid and practical Cuthberts. The plot of Anne of Green Gables is well constructed and believable. Many young readers will sympathize with the direct and undiplomatic ways of Anne. When Anne's vivacious personality wins the hearts of the townspeople of Avonlea, it is a triumph felt by both Anne and the reader. The setting if Anne of Green Gables is described beautifully and many readers will be encouraged to visit the real life Prince Edward Island. The book's overall optimism reflects the period that it was written in. Although this book seems innocent to the modern reader, at the time it was written it was controversial. Readers at the time expected to see girl protagonists acting more docile than Anne did.
Rating: Summary: An all around great book. Review: In the beginning of the book, I thought Anne was extremely chatty, and full of life, and that she would stay that way throughout the book. In the end, she quieted down, but was still full life. The interesting story of the bringing-up an adopted orphan girl in Pronce Edward's Island, Canada. Anne is one of the most realistic characters I have ever read about. She was unpredictable and multi-layered. She was extremely complex. For example, when she was not allowed to go to the picnic, she made up a story that she had taken Marilla's brooch so she could go. The author uses lots of dialogue, and long, elaborate descriptions to put her point across. She changes who you are reading about, while still sticking to the over-all plot. I think the overalltheme of the book is that even if there is a mistake or something is wrong, something wonderful can emerge from it. I believe this is true in real life. I would recommend this book to anyone, because of it's realistic setting, characters, and moods. I think it is an all-around great book.
Rating: Summary: Anne of Green Gables Review: What would you do if you were an unwanted orphan, after you thought you've finally found your home? Well, Anne Shirley thought she was finally home, but then finds out that the Cuthberts wanted a boy. While the Cuthberts are figuring out what to do, Anne yells at Mrs. Rachel Lynde and gets in trouble. Can Anne win the hearts of the Cuthberts? Can she become Anne of Green Gables? This book was pretty good, except for the parts where Anne gets blamed for things she didn't do. I would recommend this book to people who like books about hidden love, achieving your goals and about friendship.
Rating: Summary: A Review of L. M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables Review: "She's awfully skinny and homely, Marilla. My goodness, did anyone ever see such freckles? And hair as red as carrots!" this was Mrs. Lynde's first impression of Anne Shirley, an eleven year - old redhead that Marilla cuthbert got because of a mistake by an orphanage. Anne is outraged by Mrs. Lynde's words and speaks inthininkable things so disgracing to Marilla's good name. This is just one of the plights Anne gets into as told by M.L. Montgomery in her novel Anne of Green Gables that takes place in and around Green Gables, a peaceful farmhouse near the ficticious town of Avonlea. Anne is an orphan who is brought to Prince Edward Island in Canada when Mrs. Spencer misheard the message given to her that the Cuthberts wanted to adopt a boy. Instead she sent them a girl from the orphanage. At first, Marilla is set on sending Anne back to the "asylum" but when the task-master Mrs. Blewett wants to take Anne in to take care of her children, Marilla rethinks the matter becasue she doesn't want to let Anne suffer under Mrs. Blewett. Matthew, Marilla's brother with whom she lives, wants to keep Anne and that fact completely convinces Marilla to let Anne stay at Green Gables. The question in one's mind of "what will happen next?" keeps the suspense throughout the book, and the answer is usually humorous. The story follows a comical and sometimes tragic plot. I like this book because it is unpredictable and funny. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good, funny book but also doesn't mind a few tragic circumstances.
Rating: Summary: Anne of Green Gables Review: "I'll try and do anything and be anything you want if only you'll keep me." This is how "Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery begins. Anne Shirley is a twelve-year-old girl who is brought to Green Gables only to find they were expecting a boy. The Cuthberts however, are one over by this queer, imaginative girl with bright, red hair and decide to allow her to stay. Green Gables is a lovely, little farm just outside of a small town on Prince Edward Island called Avonlea. It is surrounded by fields and forests, which hold many surprises for adventurous Anne. Throughout this book Anne's fierce temper and wild imagination often get the better of her, but she usually manages to squeeze out of these scrapes. Anne's melodramatic nature and fiery temper keeps you interested as you read this marvelous book. Montgomery's humorous writing style gives life to the characters so that you feel like you are meeting them in person. I think that this was a wonderful book filled with humor, drama and tears. I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever had a dream and loves a good book.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS SO GREAT! Review: I really liked this book when I read it. This book is the book that started me into reading the Anne series. This is the first and best!
