Summary: O.K. Nothing to write to Prince Edward Island about.
Review: Watch the T.V. movie on "Anne of Green Gables", the original and the sequel. It is more entertaining than the book, because it edits out most of the dry, boring parts of the story and emphasizes the relevant parts. The movie is much better

Summary: Very good.
Review: This is the gentle story of an orphan girl, Anne Shirley, who is adopted by eldery Matthew and Marilla Cuthburt of Avonlea's Green Gables.Anne is a fiesty, redheaded girl who adores fantasy and wishes she didn't have so many frekles on her nose. I enjoyed this book: I had, at first, thought it would be boring. But no, I can admit my mistakes! It was not boring at all, and I have "consumed" the other volumes in the series as quickly as I can. This book (and the rest of the series, for that matter) are truly delightful and the characters are bright and seem very real

Summary: the most original child-heroine in literature
Review: Mark Twain called Anne "the most delightful child heroine since the Immortal Alice [in Wonderland]." This story of the impulsive but lovable orphan girl Anne Shirley who wins the hearts of all and finds a loving family and community is one of the most heart-warming and enchanting stories ever written, with many millions of readers world-wide testifying to this fact.

Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are an elderly brother and sister living together at Green Gables. They're getting on in years and they want to adopt a boy to help them run the farm, but instead by mistake a girl is sent them. Matthew is charmed by Anne from the start and wants to keep her, but Marilla is a stern and stubborn woman on the outside and at first she wants to send Anne back. Little by little, however, she too starts to fall under the spell of that spunky, charming, amusing, irrepressible redhead Anne, and they end up keeping her. The rest of the novel is rife with funny incidents of Anne getting herself into and out of trouble, and you will be amused and tickled to no end. Watch the movie too. Highly Recommended!!!

Summary: A must read for every girl, young or young at heart
Review: Anne of Green Gables is one of my all-time favorite books. Anne is a person almost everyone can relate to in some way or another. Anne is launched into the "depths of despair" as soon as she finds out the horrible truth that the Mathew and Marilla really sent for a boy from the orphanage. Her fiery temper gets the better of her at some of the worst possible times. Such as when she vows that she will never forgive Gilbert Blythe for calling her carrots, as if smashing a slate over his head is not enough. This is a wonderful book that L. M. Montgomery has really shown her skill as a writer and novelist in. I have read the entire Anne of Green Gables Series and am also, like another reader, saving them all for my daughter some day. If you want a book that you can thoroughly enjoy, this is the one, although I have one warning that you may have a hard time putting it down.

Summary: I love this classic...
Review: I read this book just after I saw the movie in 1986. I was 8 at the time and fell instanly in love. It was so innocent and pure. I picked up the books, priding myself on my good reading skills, and almost drown in its difficulty. It was then I realized that my reading skills were poor by comparisom with those from other countries. I have always hoped that the school system would pick up these books and offer it as extra credit reading. I think it would be inspiring and encouraging to get through such a difficult book (it might not have the same appeal as Harry Potter but it will endure longer). This book has a strong Christian theme that runs throughout. Very feminine and quite a healthy dose of morals and values. I still read the Anne books at the age of 27. Anytime I get tired of the news and the negative life around me I can immerse myself in this quaint fantasy land and feel at peace. The texture of the language is exquisit. If you are taking a creative writing class this book will give great pointers in a different way of describing things. Very "rose-tinted". I love this book so much I own at least 7 copies. Most are battered and the glue on the binding is giving out but I still can't bare to toss them. This book will be a classic long after Harry Potter is deemed passe. If you enjoy this book you might also enjoy the Narnia series by C. S. Lewis. Who cares if these are considered childrens books. I'm still going to read them. Again and again and again. I hope you enjoy the wonders of Anne.

Summary: Imagination and Drama
Review: Ever wondered what it would be like to let go, to be free?
Anne is all that and more. She brings out the child in all of us, and renders us speechless in praise for Lucy Montgomery. She brings us to tears of hapiness and sorrow as anne walks through life craving the one thing we all do- Love.
A childhood friend, and an adulthood companion- Anne is more real than many, alive, smiling, hopeful. She lives on in all of us. if you miss reading this book, you've missed out on life as Anne's friends know it. So join the kindered spirits all around us, and read this book- You'll never be more grateful.

Summary: a fabulous book for readers 10 & up
Review: Anne of Green Gables is a spirited Orphan of the Annie vein. Young, intelligent, headstrong, and loving big BIG words, Anne comes to live with her adopted family, a spinster brother and sister. Imaginative, intelligent and lonely, Anne soon wins over her foster parents and becomes the smartest girl in school, and befriends a local girl, Diana.

I really enjoyed Anne of Green gables. In particular the 'hometown' feel of the life on Prince Edward Island. The narrator was wonderful and this book left me feeling warm and happy inside. I only wish they described a bit more of the holidays and celebrations celebrated on the island at this time.

A must for fiction lovers young and old. A keeper.

Summary: Anne of Green Gables- Heartwarming Story for Young and Old!
Review: When Marilla's brother Matthew comes home with their new adopted child, Anne Shirley, imagine Marilla's suprise when she finds out they were accidentally given a girl. The siblings had hoped for a boy to help around the farm. They decided at once to return her, but something about the girl gets a hold on them, and after a debate, the two decide to keep her. Anne grows into a fine young woman. She is the top of her class (along with Gilbert Blythe, the handsome and mischevious boy whom Anne does not like one bit!) and all of Prince Edward Island, Canada learn to love her. One day, Anne does not come down for breakfast. When Marilla goes up to check on her, she finds that the girl has died her hair green. "The man who sold it to me said it would be black," she cries, but no matter what they do, the green will not come out, so they are forced to cut Anne's hair off. It grows back a beautiful auborn color and Anne is one of the prettiest- and smartest- girls. She and a few other students, including Gilbert Blythe, are accepted to Queen's Acadamy, where Anne vows to win the medal and the scholarship. At the end of a hard year of studies, she finds that she has won the scholarship, but turns it down when Matthew suddenly dies of a heart attack, leaving Marilla to feign for herself. Anne decides to stay with Marilla. When Gilbert hears that Anne will not be attending the school, he also turns down his acceptance, and it is the beginning of a new friendship. This book is for young and old, but girls will probably enjoy it more. I enjoyed reading it so much, and I hope you will, too.

Summary: Anne of Green Gables By L. M Montgomery Review by L
Review: The Anne of Green Gables series is a wonderful series for young and old alike. It was the series that introduced my own daughter to the wonderful world of reading. This book is the first in that series, and it is still the best. In this book our wonderful Anne is 11 years old. She's got a wild imagination, and she is a brave little girl. She is an orphan and she's taken in by her two cousins - a brother and sister who up to that time led a pretty staid and uneventful existence. (Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert) Ms. Montgomery's talents are many, not the least of which is her characterization skills. Her characters come to life on the page. We also are treated to an author's love of her setting. The books are set in one of Canada's most picturesque provinces - Prince Edward Island. These books, though set in Canada, have achieved world-wide recognition. Anne Shirley is probably one of the most loveable children ever created in fiction. This is a heart-warming and wonderful story that has created a cult following for loveable Anne (with an "e").
