Rating: Summary: a childhood favorite Review: This book is a real charmer. The rest of the series is nice, and you learn what happens to Anne and the rest of them, but none of them reach the heights of this lovely tale about the orphan who won over so many hearts. Buy it for a young girl...I know I must have read it 10 times, and I still have a tattered copy at my parents' house.
Rating: Summary: a delightful classic Review: "Anne of Green Gables" radiates charm, humor, and imagination. A beautiful maritime setting, characters at once spicy and lovable, and a blend of humor, vigor, and romance. The adventures of this imaginative girl, her "kindred spirits", and her transforming effect on a small farming settlement in Prince Edward Island will enchant young persons and adults.
Rating: Summary: Best Book in the World Review: A heartwarming story of friendship, love, and what makes a family a family. You can't lose when you read about orphan Anne (so spelled because Ann without an "e" is too simple) and her adventures at Green Gables!
Rating: Summary: A must for all girls 10 and up Review: Not only is Anne of Green Gables a beautiful book, but it is a treasure to be opened again and again. I read and reread this book at least once a year from the age of 8 until college. Now my daughter (7 yrs old) and I are listening to the lovely audiobook version together. Anne is just the kind of girl I wanted to be, full of courage, imagination and spunk. She is also full of fun and always falling into one mishap after another. All this and more set in magical descriptions of Prince Edward Island.
Rating: Summary: Delightful and Touching Review: I truly was impressed with this book. Anne's view on life and her talkitive nature make her a very delightful character to read about. The mishaps she has are amusing and believable. As the story progresses, Anne grows older and begins to mature. Her struggles become more important, and the story goes from childish and playful to serious. However, through it all, Anne maintains her optimistic and creative ways. This book is a constant reminder to us all that growing up can drastically change a person, and yet keep them exactly the same.
Rating: Summary: One word: addicting. Review: Like I mentioned before, this book along with the trilogy is addicting. The later on books lose some of the sparkle that the earlier books had, but they are all great, memorable, books. The first few pages of the book gets you ( or maybe just me ) dizzy with the adjectives about everything, and Anne seems to chat on and on about everything. But, that is what makes her so funny and charming. Later on in the book, Anne meets friends and foes. One of the lasting characters is Gilbert who plays a very important role in Anne's life. Gilbert is a great guy... or in this book, a great boy. They have some hilarious moments together that I will always remember. So all you, birthday shopping Moms, Dads, Aunts, whatever, have a special girl that they are shopping for ( My opinion is that the girl who would really enjoy this book would be an age of 11-13. Earlier if she is an advanced reader. And if she is in a drought of books to read or if she is not really a reader. BUT, she should be a good enough reader to understand some of the old-fashioned words. Some of the words even puzzled me! )However this is just a great book for really all ages, boy or girl, child or adult, who would like a good book to read.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: This book was very detailed and you could easily become involved but the problem is that there isn't much that happens in this story. The events in this story are very few and the ones that you expect to become suspenseful are just another daily errand in everyone else's lives.
Rating: Summary: An absolute classic Review: When I was a child, I voraciously and raptly read the entire "Anne" series cover to cover many, many times, and I can honestly say that growing up with her and reading about her adventures gave me the greatest pleasures of my childhood. At first, I didn't want to read this book - it was given to me as a present by my mother when I was 11 years old, and what 11 year old wants to do what their mother tells them to do? But when I started reading it, it attracted me like metal filings to a magnet. Such is the power of Anne Shirley. She won my heart in the same way that she won the hearts of Marilla and Matthew, and I often wonder what my childhood would have been like without her. I can't praise this book enough, and although I'm now 25 years old, I still get an unearthly sense of joy, fulfillment and pleasure every time I read it. It is a true classic that will forever be cherished in the hearts of all individuals who read it.
Rating: Summary: A nicest child in the english literature Review: Mark twain said that Rebbecca of 'Rebbecca of sunnybrook farm' is the nicest child in english literature, but by my opinian this place is reserved only for 'Anne'.You cann't gauess how beautiful is this book if you haven't read it.
Rating: Summary: I love Anne Review: Note: this review refers to the anne series in general The Anne (spelled-with-an-e)series is one of the best series I have ever read.
