Rating: Summary: Best yet!!! Review: In the vein of the previous Left Behind books, Jerry B. Jenkins has crafted a marvelous story around Dr. LaHaye's biblical interpretation. Some of the characters do change their behavior, but I think the fans of the series would be disappointed to read of all the destruction and mayhem around them and not react as a normal human would. The book is wonderful for someone trying to learn patience - the cliffhanger is the best yet and waiting until March 2000 may drive some insane.
Rating: Summary: Mixed emotions Review: When I first read "Left Behind," I found it to be the most riveting Christian fiction work I had ever read. But since the first book, although I have faithfully purchased every title, I have found the quality of the books to be steadily and sharply declining. I cannot understand why so many readers think this book is so wonderful...the premise of the book seems to have blinded them to the sheer lack of good craftsmanship. I realize the characters are jaded and tired, and a few million more dead means little to their already weary and numbed minds, but still!! The events of this novel should be played up to the hilt! If ever there were a call for spectacle and melodrama, it is during the Great Tribulation! Come on, people! More should be made of the miracles, the fulfillment of prophecy, and less emphasis should go to the petty concerns of minor characters such as Leah. Who really cares what her problem is? I probably would have thrown her out of the hide-out the first day. And I think I speak for all readers of the series when I say, enough with Hattie already!! We detest her. As long as I am ranting, may I also add that I am sick of trying to learn new characters only to have them killed off within the next 20 pages. These little dead-end sub-plots are ruinous. Stick with the members of the Trib Force, why don't you? One more thing before I quit, I think the ending of this book is the tackiest, most low-down we-want-your-money-suckers cliffhanger ending I have ever had the misfortune of reading. You should be ashamed, and if it is your publisher's doing, you should still be ashamed for selling out!I shudder to think that droves of Christian readers are going to shuck out an average of another $120 for this miserable money-making machine, which I am forced to conclude is what the Left Behind series has become. And here is the real kicker, I will probably buy all the rest, too, because for some strange reason, I still want to know what happens...and I am hoping I will be happily surprised by a return to the quality I enjoyed in the original book. I told you it was mixed!!
Rating: Summary: AAAAHHHHH!!!!! Review: I was very disappointed in this book. I've read all the others, of course, absolutely loved the way they put Revelations in understandable, modern terms, and was anxious to get the next saga. However, I was extremely disappointed with everything about this book, including its ending. It was just more of the same ugliness that was stretched to fit the book. I think a lot of the repetitive descriptions could have been left out, more meat put in, and an ending that gave you what the whole book lead up to. I won't buy the next books.
Rating: Summary: They made Rayford into a doofus. Review: I don't know what the authors were thinking, but this book's characterization of Rayford is pathetic. There's no real sense of continuity with the previous books; this Rayford comes across as demented, unbalanced, vengeful and sometimes just plain old nuts. Sure, the characters are all under stress, but this seems way out of line.
Rating: Summary: Made me ask questions! Review: Thanks for another winner! It took only one day to read and was held captive to see what happened next. The characters seem so real and human in their everyday feelings and doubts. We must be certain of our salvation! Question: Is it ok for a Christian to kill the Antichrist?
Rating: Summary: Character, not action driven Review: Easily the slowest-paced book in the series. The last 10 pages were great, but the rest was soooo disappointing. Even the first book in the series was more interesting. Granted, Soul Harvest and Apollyon were riveting and rich in character developemnt, Assassins seems to have slowed the pace of the series significantly. Of course, after reading that the series will now double, it's clear to see the author's goal: Milk this series for more money. Utterly disappointing as the series started off so well. Also, the women continue to be afterthoughts. Even the Bible itself has more exciting, strong women in it. I hope the next book has more of the author's passion and this was just a lull, not a foreshadowing of the rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I thought that the book was very good. Everyone I know is on a waiting list to borrow my copy! That was one heck of a six month cliffhanger! I can't wait to find out what happens in the next 6 books!
Rating: Summary: I LOVED 'ASSASSINS' and 'THE FIST OF GOD'! Review: I found two novels that I loved this past month. I orderd Assassins and it was great. One of the best of the series. I also ordered a novel called, The Fist of God by A.T. Nicholas. It was one of the best spiritual thrillers that I have ever read. The characters and the plot was incredible. (It has strong language, so if you have a problem with colorful four letter words, stay away.) But it's a great book, and has a great message. I would recommend both novels.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!! Review: This latest installment of the Left Behind series had me, just as the others, glued to every page-- I can hardly wait until next spring for the next book!
Rating: Summary: Focus on the real point of the series Review: I enjoy reading, but never before has a series had such a drastic impact on my life as this one. The characters, the inclusion of the scriptures, and the realism of it all has really had a drastic effect on my spiritual relationship with God. I was deeply disappointed that it did not have the same effect on others. There seemed to be a lot of complaints about the sixth month waiting period for the next book. After getting this far in the series, it should be looked at as a time to really get into the Bible so that this fictional series does not one day appear to you as a reality. Also people complained because the books were long and drawn out and overall they seemed angry because they had to pay to for six more books just to get to the end of the tribulation. Do these people just not get the overall point of the series? For the effect this has had in changing my life around, when I am in heaven, I don't think that I'll care if I spent hundreds of dollars on this series. I don't think that Tim and Jerry will be too worried about the criticism here on earth because their reward in heaven will be much greater. I just hope that I can have an amazing effect on others as these two authors have had on me.
