Rating: Summary: Thank You Review: Thank you Tim and Jerry for writing this series. It's made me understand and visualize Revelations. For those who critize the books don't surely understand their true meaning. Even through the story and the characters are fictional the truth of the matter is that events of these kind are in the future of this world. One day god will come take all his believers and leave behind those who are not saved. This series has made think about how we don't know when he is coming so all people need to take a good look at ourselves and ask Will I be one of those who are left behind?
Rating: Summary: couldn't put it down Review: The true test of a 'really good book', in my opinion, is: could I read a page or 2 here and a page or 2 there or did I have to read until my eyes could stand no more! All of the left behind books kept my eyes glued to the pages until i either passed out from exhaustion or finished them. There's only one thing I'm sorry about. I wish i had discovered them after they were all written so that I wouldn't have to wait so long between books. As for the theology - it really doen't matter if you believe it or not - it's real, it's going to happen, and you can decide to either be ready to meet Jesus when he returns, or to reside in hell for eternity. God said it and that settles it. All of the atheists, agnostics, and cultists in the world will never change what God has said. I'm sure no one has interpreted the Bible 100% correctly - only in God's time will we know all of it, - but i believe the authors are as close to totally correct as is humanly possible. Instead of reading the books looking for flaws or 'stilted language' - read the books as if you were left behind. How would you feel then?
Rating: Summary: Dialogue and the pain of six more books Review: If you love these books this review will not change your mind, but books should ultimately entertain and not be used as it has been stated here time and time again as a Witnessing tool. Sadly, I agree that that is what they are. The dialogue is too forced--Too formal, too stilted, too much telling rather than showing the action in progress to be anything else. The authors needlessly point out that his excellency never uses contractions--let me point out that the authors don't use good characterization or dialogue. Let me restate from my earlier review of Left Behind that they can't write women well. Let me also emphasize, as a plot point, that it might have been interesting if Nicolae didn't pray directly to Satan and honestly believed in what he was doing--Oh I'm sorry that would make the antichrist a layered character that may be a little to difficult for these authors. So here I am compulsively plowing through this series saying to myself, "Just one more book and you're done." Seems there's too much profit to be made and six more books are slated. Six more books full of Miracle Gro formulas, Women feeling like Schoolgirls, Oh and for the witnessing tool crowd, butchered misaplied bible concepts and passages. I came to this book thinking that it had an interesting premise. I only wish it had more capable authors. And if it is truly supposed to be a witnessing tool, more capable theologins.
Rating: Summary: Remember What's Important Review: For all of you that keep talking about the authors of this series getting greedy-- Please rethink this. It really doesn't matter...What matters is the length of this series gives more people the chance to read it. They may hear good reviews or bad reviews about the writing style, the development of characters or the entertainment value. But face it, the important task here is to spread the word. Whether the authors intended or not, the long series does draw more attention than a one time writing. Look at some of the "bad" commercials on TV. People remember the "good" ones but also the "really bad" ones. So, again, does it really matter? I don't think information that may lead people to their bibles to study more needs to be riveting, entertaining or short. The important thing is that alot of people are hearing about this series and telling others. Some are giving the books to their non-beliving friends. How many of you read the Bible expecting to be entertain or to be a critic of the writing style. Don't lose site of the big picture...the acceptance of Christ and being saved. Please don't turn people away from any book that might make them think about God and their salvation. That is what would be a shame!
Rating: Summary: When Will It End? Review: This book is another unsatisfying installment in a truly awesome story. The first book was wonderful, but they have gotten progressively more disappointing. How long can the authors drag this story out! It begins to look suspiciously like a marketing technique to wrest more money from readers. The writing is inconsistent in most of the books (though better in this one than several of the others), and I get tired of plowing through huge amounts of "she said this, he did that, they went there". One of the basics in writing is "SHOW me, don't TELL me," and two such experienced authors should have mastered this by now. Instead of leaving me eager to read the next installment, the last few books have left me slightly disgusted that Christian people would stoop to selling their story out for a sensationalist money-making scheme. The whole story could easily have been told in a trilogy. I guess big business wins out again.
Rating: Summary: a still worthwhile series Review: I thought this last book was the best since the initial "left behind" book. the series still holds my attention, though I too am tiring of Hattie and other characters. During the downtime awaiting book 7, I took some others advice and read THE LAST DAY (Glenn Kleier, 1998, Warner books). I second their opinions. it is a stunning book!
Rating: Summary: Evangelical Nonsense Review: More nonsense about the Rapture - a doctrine that did not exist in the early New Testament Church, but dreamed up in the late 19th century. Maybe you people should stop trying to usurp the Father's power (only He knows the hour), pick up your Cross, and start living a true Christian life.
Rating: Summary: Overall review of the Left Behind series Review: I feel that the whole series is a great tool for witnessing to people. I have tried to explain these things to friends and co-workers and they laugh at me. I know I dont explain it anywhere near as well as the books do but I try. They will definetly open your eyes. God is real and so is his word. Our world as we know it will explode once the rapture occurs. many people are going to be crazy over it. I just praise the Lord I wont be here for it. Once you start reading these books you wont want to put them down. I think they are GREAT!
Rating: Summary: How can anyone not believe... Review: Do you believe? If not then how can you deny that there is a God or that he made you and loves you? The evidence is all around you and is you! If we did come from monkeys than please explain why there is a missing link. Try looking into the billions of specialized cells that work togather make you breath and call it luck that you exist. The chances of order as seen in life coming out of chaos has been described as rolling a tire into a junkyard and it rolling out the other side a fully functional car. Yet so many would rather not be held accountable for their lives. They would rather that they were independent like rebellious children. Fortunately the Father loves you and every other person on earth so much that he sacrificed his only son so that we may be his children. I read a paper called A Walk To The Cross, it spoke of Jesus in his very nature God laying down all his rights as the creater and placing himself at the mercy of his creations whom he loved even as they brutally beat him, laughed at him, and spit on him. Finally they crucified him. Those words don't shake us these days but the idea of being nailed to a cross where we would drip todeath or die of asphixeation for lack of the strength needed to breath(this required the crucified to push himself up with his feet against the nail through them), was not popular back in that day. I hope this will help you to recieve Gods gift of eternal life. Try talking God about your problems and asking him for help and he will answer. I know, because I have expirenced it. Forgiven, Justin
Rating: Summary: COMPARED TO THE OTHERS-THIS ONE IS OK! Review: The other books leading up to Assassins was much better. I think this novel could have been compined with the last or the next one in the series. I love the religious theme and the way the story is going. Looking forward to the next one. I would also highly recommend a novel called THE FIST OF GOD by A.T. Nicholas. It was an eye-opening and spirit moving plot. A great 'good vs evil' storyline set during a presidential campaign.
