Rating: Summary: Eragon is Paolini Review: I have just finished reading a fantastic book! The whole time I am thinking about the abilities of C.Paolini and Eragon. I was first caught by the cover, that huge amazing work by Palencar, I'm not familiar with Palencar, but he made sure the dragon knew me. As I read the jacket I was drawn to all things that make my reading of fantasy a joy. An amazing story. I will be looking for Paolini in the new book section along with my other writers. Having lived in Montana for a few years, it is good to see that Montana has as many surprises as it appears Christopher has in store. Not to be limited to any one age group, Eragon is there for the ages, and for all ages. If you like Orson Scott Card, Terry Brooks, David Eddings, Christoper Paolini is a must read author.
Rating: Summary: Better than average Review: I read this book because of its description as the new "Harry Potter". Rowling's books are outstanding because of the novelty of her ideas in this extremely competitive genre. Unfortunately, Paolini's material is wholesome but stale, borrowing too much from his predecessors in this field . At the same time, this would be an excellent introduction to the world of fantasy fiction, particularly for the younger readers. I found his literary style clean and direct, with just the right amount of descriptiveness to bring a world to life, but he betrays his young age with limited sub-plots. Robert Jordan, he ain't (for better or worse). Hopefully, he will get off the much beaten track in the future. A good christmas gift for the young uns
Rating: Summary: The up-and-comer in classic fantasy fiction Review: Many reviewers have addressed the opening of the book, the awkwardness of the first chapters and the formulaic treatment of plot and traditional fantasy peoples. Uh huh, all that is true. What is also true is that this is a first rate first novel. I've read (and finished, more is the pity) much worse. It's new classical fantasy fiction. Yes, it derives much from Tolkein, Eddings, McCaffery, et al. And some folks are bored with that and looking for a new voice and are correct to say "don't look for that here". But if you enjoy the classic coming-of-age, heroic quest type of story, LOOK HERE. Mr. Paolini has created a very readable (once you get past the first few chapters) book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Tolkienesque fantasy. Review: I've been trying to find some rich, detailed fantasy lately. You know, with a good amount of magic, dwarves, elves, and dragons. This one, was wonderful. It was superbly original, taking the whole good and evil thing to a different step.On the other hand, it was wonderful that he added in dwarves and elves as well. Paolini has an excellent way of doing magic. He goes in the tradition of Terry Brooks, yet actually has spell names. Eragon , a young, unsuspecting boy, like most heroes, finds a sapphire while he's hunting on the plains. When he returns home,it hatches into a dragon. Then , the action picks up.His uncle is savagely attacked by the Ra'zac,Eragon goes to seek revenge, and also learns that he, Eragon, is destined to be the next Dragon Rider. Buy it.You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: A Truely Gifted Author Review: At the start of the book, I thought the flow of the story-line to be shaky at best, and almost put the book down in favor of R.A Slvatore's new novel. I continued, however, and entered upon the interesting part of the book. Though I think we all can agree that Mr. Paolini has not yest reached the masterful level of Tolkein, Slavatore, or even Mrs. Rowling, I do think that he is the most promising author on the horizen of fantasty literature, and I look forward to the rest of this series, and perhaps a full fledged career as a fantasty author. Bravo
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever! Review: When I first got the book I would just read one or two chapters a night (and they were farely short chapters.) But by the fifth or sixth chapter when you find out that a magical stone that the main character found hatches into a blue dragon all of a sudden the book opened up, and I couldn't stop reading. The author only fifteen when he started the book blew me away. His work has the ideas and inginuity of Tolkien and the flow of JK Rowling. This book is my favorite ever! Can't wait for the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Paolini is a Master! Review: I have been a fantasy fan for longer than this author has been alive. This book is one of the top 5 books I've ever read! My only negative comment is that some of the plot twists were poorly veiled making those twists obviuos. But the plot itself is complicated and encomposes a "real" view of politics. If you are a DUNE or HOBBIT fan you MUST read this book. I recommend every school library purchase it immediately because this book will be bigger than HARRY POTTER.
Rating: Summary: a real page turner, but too violent Review: This was basically a great book. I couldn't put it down. The language flowed exquisitely. The character development was excellent, and surprisingly complex, given the author's age. The descriptions of places and people were vivid, making it easy to picture each thing. The only real drawback I found was the constant gore. It seems like someone dies in almost every chapter -- sometimes many someones. That part is fatiguing and alienating for me. Still, I am DEFINITELY getting the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Just WOW! Review: This book is totally amazing. When I first saw it, I thought it would be a dippy kids "intro to fantasy" book. But I couldn't have been more wrong. This book has everything that a diehard fatasy reader loves, action, suspense, and magic. I have to give this book 5 stars because it totally blew me away, and I'm sure that it will do the same for you.
Rating: Summary: This book is great!!!!!!!! Review: I love this book!!!!! It's really great. It has everything you need in a book... fun, suspense, mystery, emotion, and that keep-you-guessing material that adds style to a book. But it's lacking female characters. It needs a bright, witty, spirited GIRL. Hey I'm not finished yet so there might still be a female character; but they REAllY need one. I haven't read a good book yet that didn't have a female main character along with any male character, or just by herself. Well read this I advise you!-Me
