Rating: Summary: Another Great Potter Book Review: WOW, Rowling has done it again. An amazing book that keeps you on the edge at all times. Rowling really has a winner with the Harry Potter series. Keep cranking 'em out, and I'll keep reading them.
Rating: Summary: EVEN BETTER ! ! ! Review: Wow, Rowling has done it again. The Harry Potter books are fantastic! Not just for kids, these books are all nighters, impossible to put down. I was fortunate enough to get this book early from Amazon UK and loved it. However, the British binding, cover, and illustrations are not nearly as impressive as the ones published in this country. So, I now have one of each which is okay because I have a long list of people just dying to read the continuing saga of Harry Potter. I can't wait for the next one which is already on it's way thanks to Amazon UK.
Rating: Summary: this book is magical Review: Wow, This book is so amazing. It is my all-time favorite. The main caracters, Harry, Hermoine, and Ron, are the luckist caracters alive. They are three of the most famous students in all of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizerdry all because of Harry Potter the young son of two tragicly killed parents. When Harry was young he survived the evil wrath of the wizard whos name must never be spoken by magic users. Harry meraculusly does the same thing in his first book Harry Potter and the sorcerers stone and is renouned for his adventure against the dark wizard. Then he goes home for summer vacation and that is how his second venture begins. Harry lived with his aunt, uncle and cousin who in no way liked him because of his strange talent, so they made him sleep in a small room on the upper floor. One day he was forced to go to his room as he walked in he was starteled to see a house elf named Dobby who warned him that he must never go back to Hogwarts for his life was in danger. Harry did not heed Dobby warning and went backto school were he meets Rons little sister Ginny. All through the school year mysterious things happen that are togreat to be told by such a poor writting hand as mine so if you want to know, and I know you do, read this wonderful book and become a Harry Head, like me.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: Wow. I'm 14 and I enjoy Harry Potter. I must say they are much more enthralling then I had imagined. This book, I thought was a little better in the suspense department than the other, but I'm a stickler for scariness. JK Rowling is a magnificent writer and I hope to be reading those stories for years to come!
Rating: Summary: A story my child and I both reveled in Review: Wow. What a great story and so beautifully told. This book is great literature. It's a story that will stand the test of time. What I loved so much about it was that for more than a month my six-year-old and I couldn't wait to snuggle up each night and read a few more pages. I loved it. He loved it.
Rating: Summary: The Devil Made Me Do It Review: Wowsers! Most people mistakenly think this book has something to do with all that Herald Potter business going on in England and stuff. After some investigative research, I discovered this book was actually written by Hemmingway (Mariel) and has little to do with wizardry. Instead, it's about a young boy in England named Harry, who goes to Wizard School but then gets kidnapped by the Yakuza and forced into the brutal world of high-stakes Asian porn. We see his Darth Vader-like rise to fame via VH1 and, often haphazardly bleed all over the dust jacket. Naw dawg! Do yourself a favor and memorize this book. There'll be a quiz on it later.
Rating: Summary: Year 2 At Hogwarts...Fantastic Review: Year 2 at Hogwarts begins with Harry's summer holiday with the Dursleys. The Dursleys haven't changed they're still horrible. Harry is visited at the Dursleys by a new character, Dobby the house-elf who is hysterically funny with his self-punishment, made me laugh out loud. Unfortunately, Dobby's visit causes a number of problems for Harry and his life at the Durselys becomes even worse, if that's possible.Ron Weasley and his two brothers arrive at the Dursleys in a flying car to rescue Harry. When the school year begins there is a new professor, Gilderoy Lockhart, who is an outrageous ego-maniac, a ghost named Moaning Myrtle and the ever-present local bad-guy Draco Malfoy. The theme of this second book is prejudice against "mudbloods", people who are from Muggle parents and "purebloods" people who come from wizards and witches. J.K. Rowling does a superb job of addressing the issue of prejudice while weaving another fascinating mystery for Harry, Hermoine and Ron to solve. This second in the series was every bit as entertaining as the first and I have already started on book 3 as I write this.
Rating: Summary: Beginning wasn't as good, ending was much better... Review: Year 2 for Harry to escape from his muggle relatives with the help of his friends, deal with Draco Malfoy, and save Hogwarts from some mystery. Basically same concept as first book just different stuff going on. What I did NOT like: 1) About 45% of the way through the story I'm still asking myself, "When will the Chamber of Secrets start coming into the story?" 2) It was bad enough in the first book that Harry was "abused" but it gets pretty bad in this second book. I felt like I was watching a Jurassic Park movie where the sequel needed something bigger and badder to make us sympathetic to Harry's plight. Didn't feel it had to get as extreme as it did. 3) Wanted more "pie in the face" for Draco Malfroy, but he seemed to get off easy this time around...left me kind of unsatisfied. What I DID like: 1) Once the Chamber of Secrets story line started it was a good little mystery with suspense and some nice twists and turns. 2) I like the introduction of more of the Weasley family and how Ron's family becomes a more involved component in the story 3) The climax and revealing of the "bad guy" was believable I liked this book less in some ways and more in other than the first one, Sorcerer's Stone. I liked it enough that I'm definitely going to read the 3rd installment.
Rating: Summary: Oh how fun! What an adventure! Review: Year two at Hogwarts has a rough start for Harry, who misses his train and has to make his own way to Hogwarts, breaking every rule in the book along the way. He's in a lot of trouble, yet he still manages to hold his head high and trudge along through school. Draco doesn't let up as he taunts Harry and tries to cause even more trouble for our hero. We are introduced to new characters that we'll see later in the series. While we don't learn much about Harry's past in this sequel, we learn much more about Hogwarts, the teachers, and the students. If the HP series were a journey "Chamber of Secrets" would be the bridge from "Sorcerer's Stone" to "Prisoner of Azkaban" where we learn much more about the hows and whys. It's truly a thrill to read.
Rating: Summary: Reading IS Magic Review: Year Two at the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizards finds Harry Potter returning for more adventures and dangerous thrills with his friends Ron and Hermione. Just before it's time for Harry to leave his summer "home" (a nasty house he shares with his wicked Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon) for the Hogwarts School, he receives a warning one night from a strange little impish creature: "Harry Potter must not go back to Hogwarts!" Of course, Harry does return, and finds a new danger that has the power to wipe out himself, his friends, and the entire Hogwarts School. Can Harry prevent the danger from this new threat as well as the dangers from his old enemies Draco Malfoy and Snape the Master of Potions? Anyone who has NOT read any of the Harry Potter books always asks the same question: "Why are these books so popular?" Just read one (or four) and you'll see. Regardless of the anti-Potter faction, author J.K. Rowling DOES know how to write a good story, as is evident from the first page. Yes, she always keeps the action moving and always gives us interesting and unusual settings and strange goings-on...But the strength of the Harry Potter series is in its characters. Rowling understands how kids think, what they dream of, and what scares them. The Hogwarts School is a great representation of the one place where these "different" kids belong. Every kid in the real world feels at some time or another like they don't belong, but Hogwarts represents a place where they can be themselves, where they are accepted for who and what they are. Doesn't every kid look for such a place? Sure, there are problems...Nothing is easy anywhere, but as one of the teachers reveals near the end of the book, it's not the talent you possess, it's the choices you make in your life that matter. Controversy still surrounds the Harry Potter books. I won't get into that discussion, but I will say that J.K. Rowling is at least partially responsible for a huge number of kids (and adults) getting excited about reading. And that IS magic. 341 pages
