Summary: All board the Hogwarts Express!!
Review: When you here the "toot toot" of the Hogwarts Express, you know that another exciting year at Hogwarts School for Wizards is about to begin for Harry, Ron and Hermoine. Brace yourself, because Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is an action packed thriller. Hang, on here we go!!

The story opens with Harry not celebrating his birthday with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. They treat him like a "psycho" just released from jail. With no letters from his friends, Harry feels dejected; he gets sent to his room and to his surprise finds a house elf, named Dobby. Dobby tries to talk Harry out of returning to school because he believes there is great danger there for him. Harry decides not to heed Dobby's warning and leaves to go to school.

But when Harry tries to board the Hogwarts Express he cannot go through the wall to get on to the platform. (It turns out Dobby has put on a magic spell to block him.) Consequently, Harry and his friend Ron decide to go to Hogwarts in Ron's Dad's flying car.

They finally get to Hogwarts, but they crash into a tree that attacks them! Arriving in the Great Hall, the boys are nearly expelled because a "muggle" (non-magical person) has seen them flying through the air in the flying car. The year continues as usual for the young wizard at the world famous wizards academy. A cat becomes petrified into stone, and Harry starts to hear voices in his head (Is it the voice of the evil Lord Voldemord?) Then students start to become petrified and Harry is falsely blamed. Are the answers in the mysterious Chamber of Secrets?

The book is excellent because it is suspenseful and is a non-stop thriller. I highly recommend this book but not for younger readers because it has elements that are too complex, for example racism. (The house elves are treated like slaves.) I loved the ending because it was so unpredictable. I felt I was right inside the action, I could not take my eyes away from the book. I am greatly looking forward to the movie.

Summary: The magical book
Review: Where have you heard of a platform 9 ¾ at a train station! All the times I've gone to the train station I haven't seen or found platform 9 ¾. Have you ever wondered if a human could turn into an animal? At least that is what I wondered, after reading about 3 odd looking supernatural beings that call themselves witches and wizards. By Diagon Alley they were talking about a famous man named Gilderoy Lockhart who later in the story will be writing about amingus. Has any of that stuff made you curious? If it has you'll might want to read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

I found this particular book very entertaining. One of the reasons I thought it was entertaining was because it made me seem like I was in the story during the adventures. For example when a cat jumped off of the professor's desk and turned into professor McGonagall I felt like I was there . There's another reason that the book seems so alive: for example when Ron and Harry play wizards' chess and the pieces act like they are in a real battle field by taking their weapons and hitting the other players.

Summary: Harry Potter is entertaining for adults too!
Review: While Harry Potter may have taken over the children's book market for the time being, let me tell you that it has also taken many adults by storm also. This book is definitely a must-read for people of all ages. Harry and the other characters come to life as you read the book, making this truly an enjoyable tale for young and old alike.

Summary: not as good, but interesting anyway
Review: While I liked this book,I didn't like it as much as I like #1 and #3. It is also interesting, the plot is unexpected, there are many new things we hear about the heroes, and all - but I felt that this book is more with an emphasis on cruelty and dishonesty/dishonor,and this overwhelms the good points.Again - it's an okay book, but the other two(#1 and #3) are better.

Summary: Couldn't stop reading!
Review: While on vacation this summer, we took along Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. As we were riding in our rental car through Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York, my husband kept pointing out cities and points of interest. All my three kids wanted to do was for me to keep reading! A very fun book to read because there are many diversified characters that you can assign different voices to while reading aloud! Our family's absolute favorite!!! (Except for Dad...he was a little frustrated that no one was paying any attention to him!)

Summary: Meredith Meyer- Bak Middle School of the Arts
Review: While skimming through the pages, you try to imagine how could any person come up with such remarkable ideas. A massive serpent, a diary that writes back to you, and a secret chamber that opens from the girls lavatory. The majestic scenery and the wondrous incidents make the Chamber of Secrets an outstanding novel.
There is so much wonder and history behind this magical universe, and J.K Rowling sucks you right into it. Witchcraft and wizardry is such an interesting topic to write about, and Rowling approaches it in such an unusual way. She lets you learn and grow with the characters so by the end of the first book, you have to read on. Harry, Ron and Hermione are regular kids, but withhold a little secret. All born witches and wizards, they await their year spent at Hogwarts, the school that they attend. But every year strange, mysterious things happen to the trio, which cause the to take matters into their own hands. And this year it's the Chamber of Secrets, a very sensitive subject, no one is willing to talk about. Rowling's description and detail bring you right into Hogwarts, as if you are student enrolled there.
The Harry Potter books are definitely a read that you don't want to miss out on. Once you finish The Chamber of Secrets you will be anxious to start the next book. If you're feeling dull and want to jump into a new novel, I would strongly recommend Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. But be careful, you don't want to get too obsessed.

Summary: Longer and more satisfying
Review: Who in the English-reading world hasn't heard of Harry Potter by now? No need to recap the plotline details here. Harry is a great kid, just the sort of vulnerable, yet feisty hero that MOST parents would like to think their son is. He's an appealing character for adults and kids alike.

I have read that these books are the most-banned in the US for the past year. That would be the doing of all those weird fundamentalist types who seem to think reading Hemingway turns you into a suicidal fisherman, or Pride and Prejudice encourages girls to elope with unsuitable army officers.

The lovely thing about the books is that despite all the hype accompanying the publication of the 4th HP book, it was bubbling along by the best possible method: word of mouth amongst kids themselves.

Harry and his friends Hermione and Ron are terrific creations, and will remain children's classics - deservedly so. They're terrific books to read along with the kids. I believe young people still enjoy their parents or other adults reading aloud with them even at the age where they could read these independently (the target age group is about 9 to 12). Any parent or other grown up who does so will laugh along and be as enchanted as the kids are!

There is the much-loved English boarding school tradition, with the added magic and mayhem. Secret passages abound, and there are feasts and games (Quidditch is a marvellous invention!) Wouldn't you just love to be present sat one of the magical feasts and to snuggle up afterwards in a comfy 4-poster bed! No starvation rations and cold, comfortless dorms at this school!

This book continues the the fun and mayhem begun in Book 1. It is longer than the first book, and by now, the reader is hooked and hungering more. This is a feature of each subsequent book - each longer than its predecessor. By the end of the book you are however, thirsting for more!

In Book 2 there is an accretion of magical skills known to the youngsters, and more spells, potions, and paraphenalia available to them. Consequently, the evil is stronger too. It becomes more malevolent as the kids age and themselves become more powerful.

I did find the character of Moaning Myrtle (the ghost living in a toilet) a bit of a pain after a while, though, like all other elements, she is integral to the plot.

I finished Book 2 and immediately went out for Book 3.

Summary: Brilliant, I tell you! Brilliant!
Review: Who would have thought that a largely unknown author could write a book that could gaurentee the success of the next 5 books she was planning to write, all while trying to live up to THE book of half century? The Sorcerer's Stone was so good that no one would have been surprised if the second hadn't lived up to the first. But it has... and some...

While I refuse to pick favorites in a series as enchanting as this one, I will promise that NO ONE who read Year 1 will be disappointed. I finished the whole book in two nights. I would have loved to "savor the flavor," but it was too good not to inhale as quickly as possible. Do yourself, and any reader in your family, a favor and buy this book.

My marraige proposal to Ms. Rowling still stands.

Summary: Even better than the first!!!
Review: WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP COMPARING HER TO ROALD DAHL?!J.K. Rowling is twice as good as him! When my mother and I read it, we couldn't wait for the sequel to come out, but then we got really down because it was only coming out here in the US in September '99 (this was in November of '98). But then, fortunately, we knew someone that was coming over from England, so we got it from them. As usual, the Weasly twins are a bomb squad of laughs. Also, watch out for Lockhart, he's a torture chamber without realising it! In the end, Gryffindor wins the house cup and Harry defeates You-Know-Who once again. How? Find out for yourself.
