Summary: "Chamber" is More Exciting, & Scarier Than Book #1.
Review: The second book of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," has more twists and turns, is more exciting, and provides more scary imagery than the first book. There are more dangers awaiting Harry than ever before, and it provides for a reading experience that exceeds the promise of the first book exponentially.

In this tale, it is Year Two for Harry, and everyone who was nasty to Harry in the first book is even nastier here. The Dursleys are meaner than ever, Professor Snape oozes contempt for Harry more than last time, and Draco Malfoy, Harry's main rival at Hogwarts, is even more delightfully slimy and slippery.

J.K. Rowling's writing is as straight-forward and uncomplicated as the first book, and it is a wonderfully fast read. The events unfold before you at such a rapid rate that I never wanted to put the book down.

If you have read the first book, or seen the first movie, this book is a MUST-HAVE. How can you resist the further adventures of Harry Potter? (If you can, you are a stronger person than myself.) I prefer to be sucked into Harry's world, and I think you'd enjoy the second trip yourself.

Summary: A truly adventurous second entry!
Review: The second entry in the Harry Potter book series is a well-deservedly praised follow-up to the 1998 "Sorcerer's Stone" in almost every way. It is every bit as entertaining and fun as the first but this takes what was great about the first book and builds on it to create an even greater scope for Harry's turbulent life at both his family home and at Hogwarts.

In this case, his first year at Hogwarts ends leaving him incredibly exhausted and shaken after learning a bit about the deaths of his parents when he was a year old. Now back at his awful Dursley relatives' home, his life after his first year at Hogwarts is every bit as hellish and unpleasant as it's always been. He now has his own bedroom albeit a small slight seedy bedroom. However a strange event occurs when shortly before the start of the school year, a House Elf named Dobby makes a surprise visit to Harry's home warning him now to return to Hogwarts this year. Harry Potter however rebukes Dobby's warnings and after escaping the Dursley's unpleasant household, he returns to Hogwarts for his second year and reunites with his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger.

However his second year at Hogwarts is no less dangerous than his first year was. In fact the dangers at Hogwarts are even greater than the last time. Harry hears a dangerous whispering voice that echoes throughout the hallways of Hogwarts which no one else can and the voice that Harry hears utters the words "Kill" which alarms him. Even worse is that several students at Hogwarts start turning up 'petrified', as in put into a state of being alive but unable to move and are as solid as rock although not actually turned into stone but in a frozen animated state. The confusion from all of this causes a series of confusion among Harry, Hermione, and Ron as they learn more about the History of Hogwarts. During that time they learn about what is believed to be a secret underground lair called the "Chamber of Secrets" which was built by one of the four founders Salazar Slytherin. The chamber according to legend can only be opened by the person who is actually the "Heir of Slytherin". Now they have to find out who exactly the "Heir of Slytherin" really is before he/she starts to not only petrify students but also killing muggleborns and half-bloods (Both to one pureblood and one muggleborn or muggle parent) and prevent him/her from taking over Hogwarts.

I found this book to be an even greater successor to the "Sorcerer's Stone" book in many ways. "Chamber of Secrets" is a lot darker and more mature than the first one and builds on the greatness of the first. The overall tone has a much spookier tone and some elements may be a little too much for younger readers and those who have a fear of spiders and snakes because there are a lot of them here.

The movie adaptation of this book released in 2002 was very well done but even as great it was, there were some plot elements that were never filmed in the movie and that I was upset over. One was the confrontation between the benevolent Arthur Weasley and his main enemy, the malevolent Lucius Malfoy, father of Harry's school antagonist Draco Malfoy. In the movie it was just a short verbal confrontation which ended without any serious incident. In the book, it turned into a very ugly physical fight between the two enemies.

I also enjoy reading this book is like the first one, it tells the story through a very different light then the movie counterpart. Not knocking on the film, the characters that I imagined when reading the books looked significantly different from the movie versions especially Severus Snape. Also just the general imaginations that the books evoke can be very different from that movie version as well. The movie is awesome but the book is a totally different dimension all on it's own. In other ways this novel also showcases how some seemingly malevolent individuals may actually be either just a brat or actually on the good side and that they are not what they may come out to be. Even people with similaries to let's say previous evil beings may turn out to be totally different after all through the right circumstances.

Go and get this novel when you can. The movie is good but for the most part, novels are almost always more imaginative and more compelling than the movie adaptations can ever be.

Summary: J.K. Rowling does it again
Review: The second Harry Potter book is even better than its predecessor. Harry and friends go in search of the Chamber of Secrets hidden somewhere at Hogwarts. Danger, mystery and plain old fun keep the reader engaged from the first page to the very last. Another winner!

Summary: "Enemies of the heir beware!"
Review: The second Harry Potter book is my favorite. J.K. Rowling is a teriffic author. The characters are excellent (I like the Weasly twins the best). After being visited by a mysterious house elf named Dobby, Harry escapes the Dursleys and goes to Ron's for the rest of the summer. He and Ron end up flying to Hogwarts in a car and crashing into the Whomping Willow. Then, Harry stars hearing voices. Several Hogwarts students are turned to stone. The Heir of Slytherin is behind this all and only he can open the Chamber of Secrets and control the Monster of Slytherin. Whodunit? Could it be Hagrid, whose past is revealed? Could it be Draco Malfoy, Harry's rival and the most malicious boy at Hogwarts? Or could it be Harry Potter himself? What is the monster? Could it be Norbert Hagrid's beloved dragon? Could it be Aragog, the giant spider, or something worse..... To find out, you'll have to read Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, if you dare!

Summary: Excellent and Captivating
Review: The second Harry Potter book while scarier and not quite for my six-year-old yet, amazed me yet again with the depth of character J.K. Rowling brings to children. I loved the novel and couldn't put it down. The story inspires loyalty among children and teaches them never to give up on themselves, even if they do make mistakes.

Summary: Jeff's Book Review
Review: The second Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, written by J. K. Rowling is probably the best adventure book one might end up reading in his lifetime. It is a book packed with turns and twists that will keep you on your toes. This book starts off very slowly when Harry's summer comes to an end and he has to go back to wizard school from his relatives' home, the Dursley's house. As Harry is packing all of his bags, the young boy receives a warning from a strange creature that goes by the name of Dobby. Dobby tells Harry that some sort of disaster will strike his school, and maybe him. Harry is not that scared. Harry leaves the house to go to the train station but is too late. The heavy train is puffing its way all the ways back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry without him and Ron. The young boy is left clueless of what to do so he goes to his only other resort, his friends' flying car. Just a couple of miles after they take off, Harry and Hermonie crash into a huge whomping willow tree. As Harry gets into his second year of wizard school, he suspects that his friend, Draco Malfoy is out to kill him somehow. Mysterious walls having weird words appear on the walls signifying the Chamber of secrets has been reopened. Day by day more weird stuff is happening at the school. Ron, Harry's best friend, and Hermoine, the smartest person at the school who makes almost perfect A's, accompanies Harry Potter to solve this odd 40-50 year old mystery-taking place at Hogwarts. As the story comes to an end, the three-person trio finally find a way into the chamber of secrets. There inside of the chamber lay one of the people Harry suspected the whole time, Voldemort. Voldemort was the darkest and most evil wizard Harry knew. He was the wizard who killed Harry Potter's Parents and now he is out for Harry. The story's problem comes to an end when Harry takes a huge sword and jab it right into Voldemort's heart. Just like every other story, there is peace and everyone lives happily ever after. I believe that the author has a typical lesson to teach kids that read this story. The lesson is never give up. Harry Potter in this story is a guy that does not believe in giving up. He is willing to go down fighting. Throughout the story people really try to scare Harry away from wizard school. Harry just does not get scared away. He just turn, his fears into little mini adventures. This book was one of the best books I have ever read. The author J. K. Rowling writes in perfect detail, only leaving room for one to wonder about what happens next. It is an easy read, but has just enough length to make the enjoyment to last a while. I would like to recommend this to anyone that is under the age of 16. Anyone over the age of 15 may think that Harry Potter is just too much of a baby book, so I believe that 16 and under is a good age.

Summary: Simply Wonderful!
Review: The second Harry Potter books is just as good as the first. Ms. Rowling has created a new classic with this series. They're simply wonderful.

Summary: Continuing well...
Review: The second Harry Potter builds well on the first. The characters continue to mature, as does the storyline. This tale, with more twists and turns then the original and with a darker, more complex ending, creates an exciting experience for readers of all ages. I'm not ready to place this series with the pantheon of great children's literature but Rowling's young magician definitely shows promise.

Summary: Hogwarts, Year 2
Review: The second I closed book one of this series which I loved (check my review there), I opened this one. I was very curious to find out how Mrs. Rowling will manage not to repeat herself and how she will cope with the fact that the material will not be as fresh anymore. And to my great delight, after finishing the novel, I have to say that she succeeded brillantly in this! And that even though she kept the same structure as in the first novel (Harry with the Dursleys, Harry taking the trip to Hogwarts, Harry at Hogwarts, a plot coming up, the plot thickens and ends in a grand finale)! Her constant struggle not to repeat herself is clearly visible and she comes up with so many new ideas and so many new twists and turns that this book is at least as enjoyable as the first one. I consider it to be even a bit better than the first one because it is even more complex (and maybe even too complex for smaller children), she places many hints during the course of the story and ties up all the loose ends in the end in a way that only a good story-teller can. This woman knows how to construct and structure a novel in a professional way which is astounding for someone who just pubilshed her second novel. And, off course, it is deeply gratifying to meet again all the characters that you have met and began to love in the first novel. If you, like me, read this novel immediately after the first one, you might be annoyed that she explains everything that you know from the first novel again, but you have to agree that it is a great help for people who read this novel first or read the two novels with a considerable distance of time. And still: Some things you will not understand if you haven't read the first one. Again, I had no choice but to award this novel five stars. After closing this book, I immediately picked up book three, so check my review there if you're interested if it is as good as this one.

Summary: Great Story
Review: The second in the Harry Potter series, this is a great one. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has lots of neat things that happen in the second year at the magical school. It starts out with Harry Potter at his house with his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon. He gets a shocking visit from a house elf named Dobby, who warns him not to go back to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, or terrible things will happen. And terrible things do happen, students are being petrified by an unknown force with threatening messages left on the walls. But the lead suspect is someone he didn't expect...him. This story is much darker than its predecessor, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Of course, you can't forget his best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger who are always at his side. If you like the first one, then you'll love the second one.
