Rating: Summary: A good story Review: Rowling does it again, delivering another classic fantasy tale. She preserves a sense of mystery throughout the book. But I'm annoyed with her trend to make the mysteries of both books 1 & 2 unsolvable. There's no way the reader can figure out some things with the information given. All this aside it's a very entertaining book.
Rating: Summary: Another winner for Rowling Review: Rowling does it again. A children's book for all ages. Harry once again is faced with his nemince Voldermort, and must save himself and his friends from his evil. All the great characters from the first novel are back. What I noticed most with this book is how clever Rowling is. The story is filled with word puns, and the names are interesting linguisticaly. On the whole this is another winner for Rowling, I think the first novel is better. The first seemed more exciting.
Rating: Summary: Derivative fantasy Review: Rowling has done a nice job of taking Tolkeins Ring trilogy and adapting it to her own ends. Sauron becomes Voldemort, dead but not dead. All of the familiar characters return Trolls, elves, etc. The writing is very much on the level of the audience it is designed for - 8-12 year olds. Despite the derivative nature of the text it is great fun. The "church right" has made much of black magic and a negative influence this text might have on children. Many of my children's friends are not permitted to read the text. I am mystified by this position. It is all pure fantasy. Remember censorship only makes the censored more attractive! This is a wonderful book which becomes a world of play for children and a 2 day read for adults.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Rowling has done it again, a superb book, Harry Potter just never stops to surprise you. Written eccellently,I could not put it down and i can't wait to read number 3.The ideas just don't stop coming and niether do the surprises.Buy this book and the first one quikly, do not deny yourself the pleasure of going to Hogwarts shool of witchcraft and wizardry.
Rating: Summary: A brilliant and creative writer of children's fiction. Review: Rowling is definitely the most creative and whimsical writer of children's fiction since Lloyd Alexander and J.R.R. Tolkien. I reccomend her books for all ages. The plotting is excellent and the characters very believable and the humor is well-mixed. Hope there are many more adventures of Harry Potter to come.
Rating: Summary: magnificent! Review: rowling kept me glued to this book all night! i couldn't put it down! you don't need to be a kid to love this wonderful story of magic and mystery.
Rating: Summary: Just as good as Book One Review: Rowling returns with her second book in the Harry Potter series. Once again, I found myself amused and amazed by her storytelling abilities. She continues to appeal to both adults and children while remaining true to the spirit of the first book in the series. Rowling takes us deeper into the minds of her characters as she continues their fascinating development. Readers young and old will be captivated by the story, in which a mysterious old evil begins attacking the students around Harry, before finally getting to those closest to him. A few secrets to the unsolved mysteries left from Book One are revealed as the story progresses, which begins to show that this series is not simply a collection of stand-alone adventures, but one epic story as well. As a 23-year-old fan of the series, I recommend that whether you are young or old, you pick up this series and lose yourself in it.
Rating: Summary: Very well done! Review: Rowling succeeds again. In this second of the Harry Potter adventures, Harry can't wait to return to Hogwarts. After warnings from a mysterious visitor, Harry goes back to school anyway, only to find the Chamber of Secrets is opened and Harry, Ron and Hermione risk everything to solve the mystery. At times the plot is a bit complex, but Rowling is able to pull it all together in the end while weaving a fine story filled with a host of new characters and surprising twists. Recommended!
Rating: Summary: Classic old-world writing. Review: Rowling writes like a classic 19th Century writer, driving the story and not talking down to the targeted 9-12 audience. Both traits make her stories exciting and enjoyable for all ages. Although no book series is really deserving of the hype Potter is getting, the series is quality work and no one who enjoys reading should be disappointed. I have only one complaint about book two, it wasn't enough to knock it down from five stars, but a complaint nevertheless. Why did they spend all that time and trouble with the Polyjuice Potion to get info out of Draco when Harry could have simply used his invisibility cloak and followed Draco around for a couple days, listening to what he talked to his buddies about, and maybe even catching him in the act! It would have made an even more interesting subplot than the month spent brewing the potion.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: Rowling's book, The Chamber of Secrets, is a humorous fantasy. Allpeople of every age will enjoy reading this book. END
