Summary: Wow! Without a doubt one of the best books ever!
Review: I've read alot of books, but this one surpasses them all! It has everything in it, from adventure and suspense to mystery ! I love the way the characters are described in such a vivid way that they seem so real! There is never a dull moment in the book, and the world J.K. Rowling has created is amazing! Encore!

Summary: Top-notch - great way to get kids to read
Review: I've read both book 1 and 2 and enjoyed them immensly. Talking pictures, chessmen that talk, friendly ghosts, adventure. Very imaginative and any child and children at heart should love these books. These books would be an excellent way to encourage children to read.

Summary: I Wish Magic Was Real - An eleven year old reader
Review: I've read both books and out of both of them, I think this one is the best. I really like the Phoenix and how Harry finds the Chambers of Secrets. The book took me only two days to read it and that's because I had to go to school and do homework still. Now I can't wait to read the third one.

Summary: Harry rules!
Review: I've read both Harry Potter books, and they rock! Unlike most boring sequals, Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets was just as good as the firt one, if not, better. Harry Potter stories are the best books ever. I can't wait 'till the third book comes out!

Summary: AWESOME!!!
Review: I've read both of the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. They are pretty long but I read them in a flash because you just don't want to put the book down. Even in our school library there was a waiting list, I don't know how long. I think you should read this book because it talks about stuff far beyond imagination and uses funny words that mean all sorts of things. The first book is about a little boy named Harry Potter who is living with his Aunt and Uncle because his parents died in a "car crash". They treat him so bad he even has to sleep in the cupboard under the steps. Then on his birthday a weird man comes and tells Harry that he was born awizard and his parents really were killed by an evil wizard and that Harry is the most famous wizard in the world. He then takes him shopping because he has to buy him stuff for a speacial school of magic. He inquirers magic he didn't even know existed. I lot more happens but that is for me to know and you to find out. HAVE FUN WITH HARRY POTTER!!!

Summary: Probably the most enchanting series of books I've ever read
Review: I've read many books and I must say that the first two books by JK Rowling have kept me enthralled as no book ever has. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets I must recommend to everyone older than probably nine years of age. The characters have matured and so has Rowling's imagination.

Summary: Harry Potter, the book that lived
Review: I've read the first 2 Harry Potter books, and not sure if there are any more, but boy I hope there are!! Harry is funny, magical, (litteraly and figuratively) and suspensful all at once. All of the peices of te puzzle fall together with extreme perfection. I urge you to read this book, its a true adventure.

Summary: Excellent follow-up to the first book.
Review: I've read the first 4 Harry Potter books at this point, and while this one would not be ranked as my favorite, it still is well worth 5 stars. Certainly you need to read this before continuing on to books 3 and 4! But this book did not have quite the novelty of the first book, the wonderful characters of the third, or the great plot developments of the fourth. It just sort of falls between all of them on these counts, giving us an interesting plot, further development of the main characters and a few things we will see again in later books. But the book is still certainly engrossing and a fun read, and highly recommended.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Review: I've read the first Harry Potter and am half-way through the second. I think that's enough to speculate that all of the Harry Potter books are basically Harry getting into a lot of trouble in order to save the day and his triumph making up for, explaining and excusing his previous unruliness. I cant help but feel that the second book is the first book being told over with a few alterations here and there and some new characters. Of course this is safe from an entertainment standpoint, but aesthetically the books have lost their luster. Harry Potter was, I felt, one of the first children's (although not exclusively for children) books to break the mold. I loved the first one from both an aesthetic and entertainment perspective. But now that I've had a taste of the second book I fear that the many sequels will lessen the artistic value of the first book.

Firstly, a book should say all that is needed to be said and have a solid conclusion. If a sequel is needed, I feel the author didn't do his or her job in effectively writing the first book. But, in most cases, a sequel isn't truly needed, just desired. This is usually when the entertainment aspect is introduced. When an audience falls in love with a character or characters it automatically wants a sequel. When a writer denies their audience a sequel its because they care about the artistic value of their work and they feel that their work is complete. When a writer grants the audience a sequel, it's usually because the writer solely cares about people being entertained. And entertainment and aestheticism added to a book make all the difference. Entertainment is "naked" and aestheticism is "nude." Although, naked and nude added together can make one amazing combination.

An artistically good book is an entity that should stand alone, in my opinion. I have no problem with books that are written chiefly for entertainment and I don't criticize the author's ability or integrity due to the type of book they write. I just prefer a book that doesn't need a sequel and would be devalued if one were written for it. A good entertainment book is almost in expectation of a sequel, but it saddens me to see an aesthetically valuable book be cheapened by a follow-up. Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone was an aesthetically good book to me. I truly didn't expect it to be when I began it, I just expected to be entertained, but I was surprised to be entertained and mentally and aesthetically stimulated. It was a wonderful combination of "naked and nude." But the sheer idea of a sequel to that book takes each subsequent book plus the first straight down to "naked" for me.

I understand that Rowling's intentions were most likely not for the book to become such a success with adults and mature teens. I admit to being entertained by the book, but not very stimulated intellectually. The book is mentally stimulating in the way that it made me think of all this but it's too bad all of these thoughts are in the disagreement of liking the book. I do plan to finish reading all of the books out of leisure and curiosity. My suggestion would be that you read Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone and stop there if you're looking for aesthetic gratification.
