Rating: Summary: I don't see how anyone can put this book down! Review: I wasn't able to put this book down once i started reading it! I even read it a second time within the same week. Although it says 9-12, I am a 13 year old in eighth grade. I could easily imagine people older than me enjoying it to. And to people who say that kids shouldn't fill their minds with such things as wizardry and witchcraft, I bet kids who DONT have no imagination. Don't be a fuddyduddy!
Rating: Summary: Wow...that's all...wow Review: I wasn't even going to read these books- I laughed at my friend when she told me she stayed up until 5 in the morning reading them. After all, they're kid's books. Later, I got a chance to laugh at myself for staying up until an unreasonable hour reading the first book. I'm totally hooked. The second book was just as good as the first, without overshadowing it at all. I can't wait until the other 4 books and the movie come out!
Rating: Summary: Incredibly Brilliant! Review: I watched an interview with JK Rowling on the Today Show and decided to read this book based on what I had heard. I know this is marketed as a children's book, but I am 25 and couldn't put it down. It grabbed me from the first paragraph and moved me through all of it's ups and downs. JK Rowling is a brilliant writer and I look forward to the rest of this series.
Rating: Summary: This is the TAPE review. ISBN: 0807282073 Review: I will not go through the story reviews as that has been done thousands of times. What you do not want to overlook (even if you bought the book) is this most excellent tape. Many people that thought the book too long or convoluted or (even though it is supposed to be) juvenile. Can appreciate the TAPE version. It even works in the car. I have both the tape and the book so I can see how the names are spelled. I also bought the English "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets " ISBN: 0747544077 from amazon U.K. for the unique cover. People are always listening to the tape again to hear the parts that they missed the first time when they were just concentrating on the plot. What really makes the tape impressive is the reader (Jim Dale.) He stresses the different characters when he is reading their part; just like watching a movie you can not read the book without hearing Jim Dale.
Rating: Summary: Disturbing Review: I will not let my children read this book. There certainly is a big 'rave' about this series of books, but the influence and ideas it will give children is quite distrubing. There are many books out there that captivate children's minds without witches and the such. Children are what they think, they think based upon what they read. The book itself was very captivating, which is awesome for children, but the content which captivated them is scary. Potter's imagination is awesome, I hope the author will write more books, just on another caliber.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets Review: I wish they wouldn't put an arbitrary reading level on the books. I'm 53 years young and I'm on the third Harry Potter Book. I don't like science Fiction per se, but these Harry Potter books are very enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Not nearly as good as the first Review: I won't bother going over the plot line of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Plenty of other reviewers here have done it already and I do not want to spoil it for anyone. Instead I will begin by saying that I did think this was a fairly decent book, but had two problems that did not sit well with me. First:The author spends a lot of time in the story regurgitating information about the first book. Personally, this is a trait that I find annoying in any series story. I do not feel that the author should cater to those who do not want to put in the time/effort to read the first book in the series. When an author feels the need to spend time bringing some of the readers up to date on what they should already know it gives the story a feeling of "marking time" for those of us who have read the first book already, which just yanks a reader right out of the fantasy world and ruins the atmosphere that has been created. My second problem with this book is that it simply was not as well written as the first book. It wasn't bad. I just felt that in some places the author got a little lazy about creating the detailed fantasy world that she managed so beautifully in the first book. Having read the first book and knowing what the author is capable of, I found this rather disappointing.
Rating: Summary: I was spooked -- read before giving to your kids. Review: I won't repeat my last review, you can find it under "Sorceror's Stone", which describes why I gave that one 3 stars. It was good, but not mind-boggling so: Read Roald Dahl. This is a comparison to the first book, which I enjoyed and found interesting and entertaining. The second book is Much Darker, and I caution people who give this to young children: not because I think they shouldn't read about Magic, but the overt death threats for Harry spooked _me_: and I'm 23. (Maybe it was because I kept reading this until the early hours of the morning in the dark!) So don't read this book at night if you are easily scared. :) Anyway, *definitely* much more violent than the first, which was mostly schoolyard fighting and MAGIC battle to the death (in other words, fantasy and pretend); as opposed to the attempted murders in this one. There were no less than four instances where graphic killings were attempted, and they were much more real in this book: Spiders (which many people are scared of Anyway!); Magic giant insects trying to kill you, plus some pain and child manipulation thrown in. In short, good, IF you can remember it's not real.
Rating: Summary: this book is just as good as the first one Review: i would reccemend this book to anybody cause kids like me like it adults like it and it is a good book from cover to cover
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: I would recommend this book to anyone of any age. This book opens your mind and makes you want to turn the page and never stop reading. Filled with adventure, it had me litterally at the edge of my seat!
