Summary: Cute but that's about all...
Review: Harry Potter has grown to be somewhat of a phenomenon, and I am one of the many who happens to own a copy of the first book. I read it with fairly low expectations, and afterwards, found myself with about the same impression.

This was not a bad book, in fact I was actually surprised with J.K. Rowling's writing: it was cute, clever, and imaginative. It's just that everything in the book has been done before, and 'The Sorcerer's Stone', while imaginitive, had little to offer.

The beginning was a weak version of James and the Giant Peach, and the rest was a somewhat imaginative account of wizardry. One of the problems I faced was that I had no feeling towards Harry Potter, and the end account with Voldemort (sp?) was as strange as it was uninteresting. Also the quasi-romantic relationship bewteen Harry and Hermione has been done better.

All in all, Harry Potter is cute book, derived from elements of common children's literature, but nothing spectacular. It's a good book to start kids into the habit of reading, but I am surprised by the enormous hype and sales.

Summary: This is so good, ive read it over again and again
Review: Harry Potter has just escaped a horrible life with the Dursleys. He was whisked off by Hagrid to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he meets his two best friends, Hermoine and Ron. He gets involved in a sport called Quidditch and has tons of friends when he discovers a secret hidden deep within the walls of the school.

This book is funny, exciting, and definitly worth the read. The verdict turns out to be completly different from what you would think. The book is written in a way that makes you feel as if you were actually there with Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. I would recommend this book to everyone over the age of 8, it might be too scary for the little ones.

Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,
Review: Harry Potter has lived a dismal life with his aunt and uncle, the Dursleys. He sleeps in a closet and has never had a birthday party or Christmas presents. Even worse, he has to endure life with his horrible spoiled cousin, Dudley. Then on Harry's eleventh birthday, things change when a letter arrives, (by owl), inviting him to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Suddenly Harry finds himself among friends, learning about potion-making and magic-wand waving and broomstick riding. There're chocolate frogs and Every Flavor Beans and a three-headed dog and Quidditch-a game better than soccer. Also, Hagrid, a lovable gamekeeper who befriends Harry; Hermione Granger, a witch who's read all the school books and knows all the rules; and there's Ron Weasly, Harry's best friend who has quite a legacy of his own to fill. Hogwarts treats him well, even with the abomidable Malfoy's mean tricks or Professor Snape's obvious hatred of Harry. The soon Harry finds himself in the middle of a mystery at Hogwarts, and together with his two new friends, embarks on adventures he never dreamed possible.

The book is engaging with its imagery, humor, plot twists and real-life child problems. The book doesn't only appeal to children but adults as well. She's a master on fantasy. She really can, with no difficulty at all, think herself back to 11 years old. You will love the whimsical descriptions, humorous quotes and the fun characters. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Summary: A new children's classic.
Review: Harry Potter has lived with his aunt, uncle, and cousin ever since he can remember. He sleeps in a cupboard under the stairs, wears his cousin's hand-me-down clothes (which fit him like tents), and spends his leisure time being his cousin's punching bag. But on his eleven birthday, everything changes. Harry finds out that his parents were wizards, and that no one can stop him from entering the Hogwarts School where they were trained. As was the evil wizard who murdered them, and tried to murder the infant Harry - whose lightning-shaped forehead scar still burns whenever there's a supernatural threat afoot.

At Hogwarts, Harry tries to balance being as ignorant of his heritage as any "Muggle" (that's a non-wizard human like the rest of us) with finding himself a ready-made celebrity. Everyone in the wizarding world knows about him, and wonders at him; because no one else has ever survived the dark magic that killed his parents. But being famous can't protect him from friction with jealous classmates, harassment by a professor who hates him on sight, or the consequences of breaking school rules. Which Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione do with alarming frequency, as Harry's curiosity about a mysterious "sorcerer's stone" turns into an urgent obsession....

Classic good vs. evil, "hero rises from obscurity to find his destiny" tale, with an equally classic English boarding school setting put to excellent use. It's easy to see why this book captures nearly everyone who reads it, and forces purchase of the rest of the series. After all, we all were Harry Potter once in our own minds - a misunderstood child destined for great things. Excellent read!

Summary: Harry Potter-an excellent book
Review: Harry Potter has never played a sport while riding on a broomstick. He's never worn a cloak that makes you invisible, made friends with a giant, or helped hatch a dragon. All he knows is a miserable life with Dursley's, his horrible aunt and uncle and their son Dudley. But everything changes when Harry gets a letter inviting him to a school he never dreamed existed. There he finds friends, aerial sports, magic, and a great destiny for him... if he can survive the encounter. I liked the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The suspense is really wonderful along with the whole magical world that J.K. Rowling created. This book has just the right amount of humor along with mystery and suspense. It's also fun to see how the characters act. This book is very well written. I advise you to read it if you haven't already. I also suggest that if you read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and liked it, you should read Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Summary: A beautifully recorded audiobook production.
Review: Harry Potter has no idea how famous he is. That's because he's being raised by his miserable aunt and uncle who are terrified Harry will learn that he's really a wizard -- just as his parents were. But everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend an infamous school for wizards and he begins to discover some clues about his illustrious birthright. From the surprising way he is greeted by a lovable giant, to the unique curriculum and colorful faculty at this unusual school, Harry finds himself drawn deep inside a mystical world he never knew existed, and closer to his own noble destiny. This audio book edition of Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone is a completely unabridged, technically flawless, highly recommended recording narrated by Jim Dale. 6 cassettes: 8 hours, 17 minutes.
