Rating: Summary: I haven't been to bed on time for weeks! Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has kept me up nights! Since she received the book at Christmas, my daughter and I have been reading every night at bedtime. Every night she begs me "Just a few more pages, PLEASE! "The story is so compelling and the language so descriptive that we were immediately absorbed. (I have to admit that one night only a chapter or two into the book, I stayed up late to finish it off!) My daughter and I have laughed out loud at the antics of the characters, and the action and mysteries have unravelled at just precisely the right pace to keep her imagination going and her interest high! It is such a joy to find a book that touches a child like this one has my daughter. I know that Harry Potter will be one of her favorite characters from now on. We just finished the book this evening, and I am ordering the other two! Well done, J.K. Rowling. You really must still be a kid at heart!
Rating: Summary: Harry Rocks! Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has probably been the best book that I have ever read in my entire life. The way Rowling writes captures the reader from page to page, daring us to read on to what lies next. When one adventure is over, she then suprises us with another. Even though some may say that all of the books are exactly the same, with very indifferent plot and occurances, they actually are very different. Harry always wins though, but us readers definately have no problem with that. So that is why I recommend Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Only for the adventurous and daring..
Rating: Summary: Great!!!!!!!!!! Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone has to be the best book I've read since Tolkien's works!!! I would recomend this book to anyone, children and adults. I think the plot and the ending are absolutely fabulous. This is a great book!!!
Rating: Summary: Direct Characterization with in Harry Potter and the Sorcere Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone implies that direct characterization can make a novel more exciting because it makes the reader feel like they know the character personally. The main character in this book is Harry Potter. He has a very confusing life with many problems and obstacles he has to overcome, however with the literary device of direct characterization readers can sense how he is feeling at times. The author, J.K. Rowling, did a wonderful job using this literary device. Direct characterization is when an author directly tells their audience what to think of a character. This is represented numerous times throughout the book. At the beginning of the story the author lets the reader know that Harry does not like where he is at all, and that he is not being treated correctly. Because the reader knew that, it gave them a sense of how he was going to feel the rest of the story and the tone that it would carry for the remainder of the novel. Although direct characterization gave readers a feel of the tone and emotions of the character, it did not present its self consistently during the novel. It was not regularly letting the reader know Harry's emotions of what was going on, and confused the reader of his feelings. To conclude, direct characterization is a literary device that applies knowledge to a reader of how the character is feeling, and keeps the reader interested.

Rating: Summary: Great reading... Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone introduces us to a boy orphaned as a baby. Poor Harry spends the first eleven years with his horrible Aunt, Uncle and cousin Dudley where he is made to stay in a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs. Harry's life changes dramatically though when an owl delivers a mysterious letter inviting Harry to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, Harry's life truly begins and he is drawn into an enchanting world of magic yet this new world isn't without danger and this danger finds Harry as surely as a magnet attracts a paperclip. I fell in love with Harry Potter from the start

Rating: Summary: The Great Harry Potter Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a book about the adventures of a young wizard. As a baby Harry was orphaned and sent to live with his mean aunt, uncle, and cousin also known as the Dursley's. When Harry turned ten he learned the truth about his parents' death. He discovered that his parents were wizards, and that he was a wizard too. He also found that his parents died at the hands of an evil wizard, Lord Voldemort, but somehow Harry had survived and killed the evil wizard. Harry was then sent to the top wizardry school, Hogwarts, to learn how to perform magic. Harry adjusted to his knew life at Hogwarts quickly, but he started noticing strange happenings, and took it upon himself to find out what was hidden underneath the castle. He found out it was a Sorcerer's stone that could create gold and make it possible for the owner of the stone to live as he or she wants. The rest of the book is filled with the adventures of Harry and his friends trying to find out who had been planning to steal the sorcerer's, stone while at the same time trying to learn as much as they can at Hogwarts. There are many good things about this book. It is fresh, creative, and different from any other I have ever read. The author used a combination of mystery, adventure, and magic to come up with this wonderful book that anyone can enjoy reading. The book always keeps you in suspense so it is very hard to put down. I personally have a hard time finding a book I take pleasure in reading and so if I found it fun to read, most everyone else will love it too. The best part of the book would have to be its creativity. The author created an imaginary world full of witches and wizards who play Quidditch and cast strange spells on each other. There is always something new for Harry to learn about and a new mystery for him to solve. "A piercing, bloodcurdling shriek split the silence - the book was screaming! Harry snapped it shut, but the shriek went on and on, one high, unbroken, earsplitting note." Page 206. This book is full of surprises. It has everything from screaming books to ghosts that haunt the hallways. There is never a dull moment. There is no way to describe how enjoyable it is to read a Harry Potter books, one just has to read it to understand how enchanting it is. The only downside to this book is that the beginning starts off slowly. There is a lot of background given describing what Harry's life was like before going to Hogwarts, which is not as interesting as the rest of the book. After the first few chapters the book becomes very engaging and is very hard to put down. I highly recommend this book to kids, teenagers, and adults. Everyone I know that has read this book has thoroughly enjoyed it and so will you.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a book for people of all ages. Its a book for children who are looking for fun and adventure. It is a book for adults who are looking for fun and adventure. It is a book for anyone and everyone. This is JK Rowling's first book and is probably one of the best freshmen novels in years. Harry Potter is the least likely person in the world to be a hero. He's small, skinny, pale, wears baggy clothing and broken glasses. He gets beaten up by his cousin Dudley, and, indeed, he appears to be rather normal. But he's not. Harry Potter is a legend in a small community that is unknown to the average preson. In fact, Harry Potter, only eleven, is in a number of text books, though he did not know so. So what's so special about skinny, downtrodden Harry Potter. Well, Harry is a wizard. Harry is the only wizard to ever survive a curse by the greatest dark wizard for a century, lord Voldemort, who, though gone for 11 years, is still feared, and referred to as "He Who Must Not Be Named" or "You Know Who." Harry's aunt and uncle try to keep him from knowing, but the story comes out in the end, and Harry takes up his place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, Harry encounters giants and trolls, new friends and enemies, centaurs and ghosts. But all is not well at Hogwarts, for Voldemort is still at large; he is still cunning, still devious, still bent on causing mayhem. At the end of Harry's first year, he manages to stop Voldemort's evil plot, but for how long? Voldemort will return, but when? How? The world of Harry Potter is intriguing and complex, whimsical and enthralling. I read the first three novels in two days, one summer, because I couldn't put the books down. Read this book, then the next, then the next. You wont regret it.
