Summary: A Fantastic Book for Kids
Review: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
By J.K. Rowling

Would you ever want to become a wizard or witch? Harry is back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He is learning magic like transfiguration, potions, and defense against the dark arts.
The book is very funny and the book is scary too. I like the part when Harry is in the dueling match. He duels against Malfoy and at the end of the year he takes his tests and then he goes back to the Dursleys. Good luck next year.

Summary: A Classic for the Average Reader!
Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling has all the makings of a children's classic! It is original, surprising, and very imaginative. It gives you thrills and chills due to its exciting suspense, makes you laugh, and is very emotional at times as well.
Harry Potter is an orphaned boy because the evil wizard Lord Voldemort murdered his parents. He is taken in by his aunt and uncle, who are muggles (ordinary, non-magical people). Harry's aunt and uncle hated Harry's parents, which is why they hate Harry. On the day that Harry's parents died, Voldemort tried to kill Harry as well, but was unsuccessful. The powerful curse that Voldemort used when trying to kill Harry reflected back on him, resulting in his becoming very weak. Harry is often abused and neglected by his aunt and uncle due to their hatred of him. On Harry's eleventh birthday, the years of abuse in Harry's life finally come to an end when Hagrid, the keeper of the keys and grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, takes Harry away from his aunt and uncle, and enrolls him at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Gradually, he makes new friends, most notably Ron and Hermione, learns to become a professional wizard, and finds out that one of his teachers is an ally of Voldemort! This ally decides to steal the philosopher's stone, an artifact that could make Lord Voldemort stronger. Harry and his friends try to find this ally and stop him from stealing the philosopher's stone.
As I said earlier, the book has suspense, comedy, and is mildly emotional as well. It features lots of narrative hooks, which stop the reader from putting the book down. Most of the suspense comes from the main theme, which is stopping the evil ally from finding the philosopher's stone. The comedy in the story comes from Draco Malfoy, Harry's rival classmate. Harry and his friends often try to embarrass Malfoy, which gets hilarious at times. Ron is portrayed as a humorous character as well. His verbal fights with Hermione are very comical. The emotional parts come from Harry and his parents. Many times in the story, Rowling talks about Harry's feelings towards the loss of his parents, which makes readers feel sympathetic. The plot, characterization, imagination, and style of writing make the book absolutely mind-blowing. Children as well as adults will love this fantastic fantasy thriller.
Who is the evil teacher at Hogwarts? Can Harry, Ron, and Hermione stop the teacher from sending the philosopher's stone to Voldemort? Does Voldemort die in the end, or is it Harry that dies? The answers to these questions lie in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, a book that I thoroughly recommend to everyone.

Summary: A Child's Book that's Not just for Children!
Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling tells the story of an ordinary young boy who discovers that, he is not at all ordinary. Before his great self-discovery, Harry lived a very miserable life from the time he was left on the doorstep of his uncle Vernon and aunt Petunia's home when he was just a baby. Growing up, he was told that his parents had died in a car accident, which he survived, leaving a lightening shaped scar on his forehead. When Harry turned eleven, his life changed completely. He received a letter from Hogwart's, school of wizardry! When he attended the school, he discovered many other things about his life, such as, the fact that he was a wizard. He didn't take long to realize that he was famous from the time he was still a baby, for he was believed to be the baby who survived the attack of a very evil wizard, who had killed Harry's parents. Harry also realized that there are a few of those who disliked his popularity; one happened to be his potions teacher, Professor Snape. Also, he is about to have a very challenging adventure for the first time in his life, which involves stopping the man who tried to kill him from getting the Philosopher's Stone, a very valuable and powerful stone that gives its owner immortality.

Overall, I find this novel to be truly unique. The author managed to balance out reality and fantasy all in one book, without making it boring or over exaggerated. The plot itself is already very different from other fantasy books that I've read. It's funny and full of mysteries that keeps you excited and wanting to know what will happen next. Also, there are many thoughtful morals that we could actually apply to our daily lives, which are expressed through the actions of the characters rather than being expressed through dialogue. I find it very impressive, because writing like this is not really an easy thing to do. The author's ideas keep flowing all the time, as we can see her vision of the "Magic World" forming little by little through her words, making you feel as if you're standing right there, witnessing the whole event.

When speaking of fantasy books, you'd probably think it's something for small children to read and that adults are too grown up for that kind of stories. This novel, however, has proven that it's not just a novel for kids, but it's for everyone to read, even adults. As for people who don't normally read this type of story, I'm sure that once you've read it, you'll surely enjoy it. I would recommend this novel to those who love to read fantasy books, or anyone who doesn't like to read anything too serious and enjoys a bit of comedy. People who still don't like to read fantasy books no matter what, you may not enjoy this, because there's still a great deal of imaginary bits in it also.

Summary: I show not your face but your heart's desire
Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a great tale. Rowling has taken the tried and true formula of special children raised by ordinary families who go on a journey of discovery (employed in stories from Cinderella to Superman), and infused it with wit, imagination, danger and fun. The lively aspects of the book are well represented by the game of Quidditch, a cross between basketball and Australian Rules football - played on broomsticks. Rowling handles the scenes of danger well, everything from ugly trolls and deadly chess games to a unicorn eating two headed villain. The use of names is also imaginative. Take, for example, Professor Vindictus Viridian, author of "Curses and Counter-Curses(Bewitch your Friends and Befuddle Your Enemies with the Latest Revenges: Hair Loss, Jelly-Legs, Tongue-Tying and much, much more)"; or a book on dragons titled "From Egg to Inferno". The book also has its tender moments. Rowling shows that she knows a child's heart when she describes Harry seeing his parents for the first time. But she also tempers the sentiment with Dumbledore telling Harry, "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that". In the end this is a tale of bravery and loyalty, qualities which today's children need more exposure to. And if Harry gets more kids to read, then more power to him.

Summary: The First Book
Review: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is all about a young boy called Harry who grows up with his uncaring aunt and uncle. They treat him like a servant and don't let people to know who is he really is, he doesn't even know himself. Then, one day letters start arriving for Harry, letters that he is not allowed to read. However, they keep coming and to escape from the constant flow of yellowed-parchment envelopes, they spend the night in a cabin out at sea. As the clock strikes twelve and Harry's eleventh birthday begins, a giant man appears in the cabin doorway and it is only then that Harry learns that he is a famous wizard ready to start his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - where anything might happen!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first Harry Potter book and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I know that some people think Harry Potter is only so popular because of all the prizes it has won and all the good reviews that have been written, but I only read it because a friend recommended it to me, and at the time I had absaloutely no idea whatsoever about how famous the book was and I don't think it had won the Smarties Prize yet. It is still the second best book I have ever read (the best being the fourth book in the series) and I was hooked from the first chapter. Follow my advice and get stuck in!

Summary: Excellent reading
Review: Harry Potter and the Phlosllophers Stone(folks, that's the English title, the PROPER title), is a great book. As you know, the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament, will be coming out soon, so, you should catch up quickly by reading the first novel. It is about Harry Potter, a normal 11 year old who lives with his evil "Muggle" aunt and uncle:Petunia and Vernon. Potter finds out that he has magical powers and is send to Hogwarts, your unusual school for becoming a wizard(a boy), and a witch(a girl, but they are good;remember, this isn't The Wonderful Wizard of Oz). He has to defeat Lord Voldemort, a former wizard who became a sorcerer and, with his cult of ex-wizards and spies, killed Lilly and James, Harry's mom and dad. If you want the end of this book, read this book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(if you want to find out about an alleged member of Voldemort's sect who wants Harry.)
