Summary: I could not put it down!
Review: Who says this is a book for children? It is a book for the young at heart no matter what your age. I laughed, I cried, I could not put the book down. Hey, I am 61 years old, what can I say... except Harry Potter teaches kindness, humility, bravery, manners, responsibility, loyalty and a whole lot of things that we "Muggles" ought to practice more often. A supurb read for young and old alike. Phoebe Oshirak, R.N., Lewisburg, PA

Summary: Who would have guessed?!...
Review: Who would have guessed... I am a 30 something year old and have, up to now, refused to get on the 'Harry Potter' band wagon, assuming it was all for the younger ones. Boy was I wrong.

I friend at work convinced me to at least read the first book before the DVD comes out. I argued, a held off, I refused, and of course, I finally gave in.

Now 6 months ago, if you had told me I would be reading Harry Potter books, I would have laughed while rolling my eyes. If you had told me then that I would have flown throught the first book in 2 day's and can't wait to start the second I would have fallen off my chair in hystarics. But I throughly enjoyed the first book more than I can ever express!...

I will not bore you with all of what this book is about, with 3000+ other reviews on here about this book, it would only be redundant to the max.

What I will say, however, that no matter what your age is, give Harry Potter a try.... It is a very entertaining, well written, easy to read book. It is a very enjoyable change from all the other books most adults read all the time.

I highly recommend this book to all Young AND Older!... I am off to read book number 2....

Have fun!! ...

Summary: Amazingly something is better than the first one!
Review: Who would have thought that #2 would be better than #1. I have read , many books before and so far the first three Harry Potter books have been my favorites. When you start to read them it takes you into another world. I know many of you have heard that before I know I have but I really mean it. These books are so good that I counldn't put them down. I stayed up until atleast 2 in the morning and finished each the day I started them. And if that doesn't entice you to read these books nothing will. And another thing I don't know why these parents in N. Carolina are so scared many of my friends have read these books and nonw of us have tried to turn our teachers purple or have had any idea to start doing witchcraft.

Summary: Like woah!
Review: Who would have thought that reading one book - only 312 pages at that - could get you hooked on a series. This isn't any ordinary book though. It may very well be the best book (not childern's book, but BOOK) written in ages. This is the book that started the craze.

If you haven't started reading yet, buy this one. [The paperback is ridiculously cheap, but so is the hardcover and *TRUST ME* you'll want the hardcover when your done.] If you started on any other book, go back and read the first. By the way, the only complaint I had is the one I off-handedly mentioned earlier... it was WAY too short. Not really, but when your readers' only complaint is thus, you gotta be doing something right.

Marry me Ms. Rowling!?! (I gotta have an inside track on the 5th, I'm dying over here!)

Summary: Can someone please explain this?
Review: Why a 37 year old woman would love a series of books that were originally geared towards children? And the only reason I can admit this is because of all the similar reviews other adults have given, including senior citizens. As a ten year old child I fell in love with the 5 Prydain series books by Lloyd Alexander, so much that I cried when I read the last one and realized there were no more fortchoming. The Harry Potter books, which I bought out of curiosity after seeing them 1, 2, and 3 on the NY Times bestseller list, brought back that magical feeling of childhood I had back then reading Alexander. They took me out of myself and made me forget my surroundings for hours, and during a difficult time in my life. Very few books have managed to do that and to this extent, and I am an avid reader. I am impatiently awaiting the sequels and the upcoming film.

Summary: why are there only five stars? there need to be more
Review: why do we have to compare harry potter books with others. I mean other books have five stars but none are as good. I personaly think that the harry potter's are the best books ever. I don't know about you but when I read the Harry potter books i could not put them down. It is amazing to me how many people have not read or even heard of the harry potters. oh one last thing i wanted to say and that is that i am very disapointed in people who give things away about the book you may have read it but some people like to look at the reviews before they buy the book and they don't want to know the ending.

Summary: I Never Put It Down!
Review: Why Do We Love It?

J.K. Rowling's exciting, award winning novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is about an eleven year old boy named Harry Potter who lives with his dreadful aunt and uncle, until a letter is delivered to him by an owl, inviting him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Learning that he is an actual wizard himself, Harry decides to attend Hogwarts, where something very valuable and special is being guarded - the legendary Sorcerer's Stone. When Harry and his friends suspect someone is trying to steal the mystical stone, only then do their adventures really begin. This page-turner has become so popular with readers of all ages because the elements of magic intrigue and captivate the reader, while the incredible suspense leaves the reader wanting to know more. Magic has always been a subject of interest for people of every age, and this imaginative novel is saturated with it. In the reader's mind, the delightful possibility of magical concoctions means that practically anything is possible at Hogwarts, which will spellbind them even more. Since magic sometimes breaks the laws of science, it is very appealing to the imaginative reader, who willingly escapes the world of reality and enters a world where anything is conceivable, with Harry Potter as the hero, of course. The second reason people love this book so much is because of the ever-increasing amount of suspense, which grips the reader and doesn't let go until the very last page. From the very beginning of the novel, the author creates suspense when she describes Harry's mysterious past, the death of his parents, and Voldemort, someone who did something so wicked that wizards don't like to say his name. However, not until a few more chapters does the reader really begin to understand the truth. Throughout the novel, the author uses this device that is very important in keeping the reader's attention. People, not matter how old they are, love to be on the edge of their seat, yearning to know what is going to happen to their beloved hero. Suspense also allows the reader to be surprised by the unexpected. For most readers, their definition of a good book is a story that they become engrossed in, which requires a certain amount of suspense and excellent subject matter, in this case, magic. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone definitely fits that description, if not surpasses it. Magic is, by definition, the use of charms and spells to control events, something that humans cannot do. However, the fact that this story turns the impossible into the norm is very fascinating to its readers, and it appeals to many people, anyone who can read. Readers delight in the uncertainty of suspense because it helps them to relate to the characters, and often they feel as if they were actually experiencing what the protagonist is going through. Readers who thoroughly enjoy the book can't seem to get enough of Harry -- everyone is clamoring to read its sequels, too!

Summary: I am ashamed of my kinsmen.
Review: Why? Because I believe in God, and I believe in the Good, but I have been ashamed to read the misanthropic and vindictive attacks upon this book by people who claim to share my beliefs and values.

Harry Potter is a magnificent and fascinating book. There is nothing at all offensive about witchcraft or sorcery as portrayed in this book, because it is about the ultimate using of powers for the proper ends. Even the deceit is justified, following soul-searching and worries. That is human life, and sometimes it's better not to know certain things. It is imaginative and thrilling, with genuine originality used to spice up a well-trodden theme (The Worst Witch school stories, for example, predate the idea of a school for witchcraft), and references to the ancient myths. Thus, it is educational. It informs you about such things as mandrakes, unicorns, phoenix, cockatrices and the like, and about the myths and legends connected to those beasts. It encourages you to imagine and to think for yourself. It was truly frightening, but everything ended happily and satisfactorily. The plot was logical enough for a child, yet elaborate enough to please the mature mind. Of course, Harry's uncle and aunt are grotesque. They embody the narrow-mindedness of my so-called kinsmen, who lack magic and joy for life in their souls, and who lack the imagination to understand that magic is all in the mind. "Children will start dabbling in sorcery", INDEED. And so what if they do? They are very likely to go on to become eminent scientists or great philosophers. They may write, paint or create works of art. They will use their brains to make life interesting, and will be open-minded. They are reading, and learning, and they know from the world around them that such things cannot happen to them. There are positive Muggles too, just as there are positive and negative wizards, creatures and monsters, and there are people who are neither totally good or evil, just like in the world. If your child cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality at 8 years old, what kind of parent can you have been? There is fantasy everywhere. Even the wholesome Sesame Street is a fantasy. Do children grow up thinking that birds talk, and that monsters live in garbage cans? No. So why pick upon this immensely popular (and deservedly so) book? It is a much, much better book than most books written for children. Long live Harry Potter!

Summary: Flipendo
Review: Why? There are many reasons. First, this book doesn't have the major issue that all of the other Harry Potter books have, and that is the opening chapters. The opening chapters of this book are good, on Book 2 they are okay, Book 3 is kinda good, Book 4 is boring and Book 5 is unreadable. Then, when Harry gets to school and the real book begins, every chapter covers a different adventure, and it is fun reading how Harry meets Ron and Hermione and gets used to Hogwarts and completes all the challenges. All the Harry books got me hooked the first time I read them, and this one was probably the most hooking. Fantastic!
