Rating: Summary: Once you start, you can't put it down!!! Review: When one of my friends introduced this to me, I couldn't believe that such a mature reader as she would read such a book. but since she insisted I read it, I did. Once I started, I couldn't believe how gripping to book was!! I just couldn't help going to the next page to see what happens. As you go through the book, it is as if you also are in that world, and, perhaps, that this world could be real. The fanciful and very different characters are portrayed so well by J.K. Rowling!! As a Roald Dahl fan, I fell in love with this book instantly. I urge EVERYONE to read it!!!
Rating: Summary: Awesome! A Can't-Put-It-Down-Book!!! Review: When one of my friends recommended it, I just smiled and thought "Yeah, whatever." Then, my pen pal mentioned it. After some thought--and a trip to the bookstore--I tried Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I was so intrigued by the second book, I immediately read the first and I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!!! Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is inspiring and I can NOT wait for the U.S. to release Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the best books written Review: When our library at the middle school got this I was the first one on the reserve list. Once I started reading this book I just couldn't put it down!!
Rating: Summary: The BEST, most MYSTERIOUS, and totally AWESOME book ever! Review: When our third grade class heard this book it kept us on the edge of our seats. Our teacher stopped at all of the exciting parts and kept us hanging in suspense. Harry Potter and his friends, Ron and Hermione, get involved in thrilling adventures that every third grader would love to be a part of. Can you imagine a three headed dog named Fluffy? How about knocking out a mountain troll? And what about jellybeans in the flavors of vomit and earwax? UGH! When our classmate brought us the book none of us had ever heard of Harry Potter. Now we can hardly wait for the sequel! Thank You J.K. Rowling for a great read!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Madness Review: When people in America started dying over these books, I decided I wanted to see what it was all about. So, I picked up a copy of this book and went home. I didn't stop reading for about ten chapters. Some books I hate, some books I love, and this one I love. Rowling is wonderful at describing things and at characters--HArry, Ron and Hermione act just like me and my friends (sans the magic...). I am an aspiring writer myself, and J.K. Rowling is one of my favorite authors. I think anyone should read this, and if you're a girl who likes this book you should look at Dealing with Dragons, and the other books in that seires. Thanx!
Rating: Summary: I thought this was one of the best books I've ever read. Review: When school was coming to an end I heard people talking about how the Harry Potter series. Several people wrote Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on our class summer reading recommendations chart. We each got a copy on the last day of school. I decided to read this book beacause of all the recommendations. I started reading it the day I got it and coudn't put it down. In three days I had finished the book. The reason I liked this book was because of the great writing. Not only did the style of writing intrigue me, but the story over all was full of suspence, action and excitement.
Rating: Summary: The Unforgettable World of Harry Potter Review: When the Harry Potter books first arrived on shelves I never even considered reading them, for I thought they were too juvenille and immature for my comprehension level. I am a high school freshman reading at the level of an honors senior, but the creativity expressed in this book is meant for young children up to nuclear physicists. So I finally decided to give Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone a shot...worst case scenario I would just put it down and move onto something else, if the bordem began to overwhelm me. The outcome was the exact opposite of what I expected. I couldn't put the book down! By the time I finished the first book, I was an addicted Harry Potter aficianado and I needed more. Within the next month I had read the other three book and I can't wait until the movie comes out.I guess this proves the accuracy of the cliche...don't judge a book by its cover. Just because it looks like it's meant for your younger sibling or even you child, doesn't mean it isn't worth reading. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is an amazing crossroad between the real-life trials and tribualtions of being a young boy and the wonderfully imaginative world of wizardry. Join Harry and the rest of the gang as they spend their first of what will be seven years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the many adventures they embark on.
Rating: Summary: Finally, I have met the famous Harry Potter Review: When the Harry Potter series first broke out in the market, I had the impression that it was a kiddie book & therefore stayed away from it. Then, there were the Internet warnings saying that since Harry Potter did not mention in any of its series about God, then it must be the work of the other side. Well, years after, I finally decided to take a look at it & decide if it would be a safe read for my children. & here is what I have to say: (1) It is an easy read. Kids age 9 & above will comprehend the plot & the underlying lessons of good & evil. Surprisingly, as an adult, I found it entertaining as well, & couldn't put the book down. It took me only a day to finish this & I immediatly moved on to the next of its series. (2) As for the critics, I would say that this book is a welcome change in the very commercialized novel industry where the books' plots are almost geared to being made to movies (although, by now, a HP movie is already about to be released). It has a different setting, a different kind of characters & therefore a different plot. However, it is no much different from the mugles' (ours) world as good continually battles evil & as we would wish, good always triumphs at the end. & in this light, I would say, if good always prevails, then, there's Divine intervention, & if that's the case, then, this couldn't be the work of the 'dark side.' (3) I admired the way Rowlings created her characters --- full of imperfections. That way, not one single character overshadows the rest. Not even Harry, who we know is far from being muscles nor brain. In defeating his nemesis, he needed the help of his friends, who ont heir own, would not have succeeded either. (4) A little predictable but entertaining. I am giving it 5 stars not because I am a fan of Harry Potter but I believe this (& its sequels) would be a good read for my children, given the above reasons.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK DRAGS ON AND ON!!! Review: When this book first came out a brand new craze came out with it. Thousands of kids were cramming into every store across the world trying to get the book like it was the second coming! So many people were hypnotized by this less than perfect book that they would go out at even midnight to get a book from the first shipment. ...The first night I had read a few pages my eyelids slowly started to fall... It continued to drag on and on. I've got to admit even though it was pretty boring it was very detailed. You could almost picture yourself there, but then again who would want to! I would not reccomend this book to anyone...Basically, my point is to tell you that this book is a snoozer. Don't be tricked by popularity of them. It's only a fad.
Rating: Summary: Just read it for the first time Review: When this book first came out, I refused to read it. Not because it dealt with witchcraft, magic, etc. But because there was just too much hype behind it. I always become disappointed when books or movies are overhyped. But finally after five days, I have finished this excellent book by J.K. Rowling. Anyone worried about how this book might affect how children view the world must know that Rowling deals with it in the book. Harry Potter's family is very disturbed by the fact that he has such power. But in the long run, it is up to parents and guardians to remind their children that these novels are not real--but fantasy. If they do believe it is real, then they must be dealing with something that makes them wish they could have a magical wand to zap people with. Talk to them and figure it out. Do not blame the books (movies). (I doubt I will be seeing it at the theaters this week because of crowds, but I cannot wait--yes you will have to see it just to see how they changed it from the book.) So much happens in the book that to tell you anything would give something important away.
