Summary: A normal kid finds out about his magical powers!
Review: When I first learned about the Harry Potter books, I didn't think much of it. Magic books really didn't interest me much. But what I was yet to find out, the Harry Potter books weren't just full of magic, they were full of humor, adventure and fun! Then, not to long ago, I decided to find out what these Harry Potter books were all about. Once I started, I couldn't put it down! Harry Potter, just a normal kid living in a normal town with a pretty normal family, was wisked away to the most magical place he had ever seen, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He met friends like witty and wise Hermoine Granger and fun and likeable Ron Weasley. He also met many other different people like the two class clowns, the Weasley twins, Fred and George, Percy the Perfect Weasley, the evil Professor Snape and many more. And you can't just stop with the Sorcerer's Stone, then comes the Prisioner of Azkaban and the Goblet of Fire. I recommend all four of them to you because they're so full of adventure and fun, you won't be able to put them down. I know I couldn't!

Summary: A Literary Treasure for Kids of all Ages
Review: When I first learned that the recommended reading age for Rowlings' wonderful Harry Potter was 9-12 years, I wished more 20, 30, and 45 year-olds would experience this joy. In the footsteps of The Pagemaster and other great works of children's literature, this book excels as a mystical adventure to be shared among kids of all ages. This book will reawaken the longing for everyday magic in any Muggle body.

Summary: A Must Read
Review: When I first opened this book I thought it was going to be some cheesy children's novel. Thank goodness I gave it a chance. The first installment to the Harry Potter series is bewitching and exciting. I couldn't put it down after the first chapter. It's a short read but the story will last for a long time. Tales of a boy wizard and his first year at a school of magic, what could be more fun!

Summary: Good read for all ages
Review: When I first picked up the first edition of the Harry Potter series a few years ago in the library, I was rather wary. I did not at that time trust popular lit nor did I find fantasy to my liking. I did end up reading it and I am very glad I did.

You may have read many criticisms of Rowling's work, ranging from her supposedly simplistic style and use of clichés to qualms about her subject matter. Admittedly I find some of her actual style not to my taste but nonetheless, Harry Potter us not a series anyone should miss out on. I think evreyone sould try the books at least once-- and I'm willing to bet more than one wary reader would become hooked as I did!

As is characteristic of children's stories (and indeed many adult novels though perhaps not so obvious), the protagonist finds himself in a dull, sometimes even unpleasant, life when a fantastic solution presents itself. And so it is with Harry Potter discovering a wonderful, magical world he never knew!

The reader familiarizes him or herself easily along with Harry and through this mutual discovery of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and other parts of this new world, the reader can identify with Harry. Sorcerer's Stone is a fun read all-around and I'm sure even adults and older teens can enjoy it if they let themselves.

Summary: Can I Even Begin with them?
Review: When I first picked up this book it was the christmas of 1998. My mom had given it to me, and actually, i didn't want to read it.

How wrong I was.

Can I even start to explain the world and even life style that Harry has led me into. Its entertaining, funny, and there are many references to mythology that Rowling cleverly weaves in. It really just hooks you into a new world.

The story, which i'm sure you've heard already, is Harry Potter is the boy who survived the attack of the Dark Wizard Voldemort when he was a baby. Growing up with his muggle (non-magical) aunt, uncle, and cousin, it is a shock for him when he learns he's a wizard.

This lovely, engaging world Rowling has created leads us in bit by bit. And, its actually a quick read for u lazy people :( who don't wanna read a lot.

The whole series is wonderful. I love how Rowling is able to make the reader feel that Harry is growing up as he gets older in the books. Like, the first book, the plot and vocabulary and psycology of it is fairly simple. It gets more complex further in the books.

And then theres me, with my problem with obsessing over every last detail. Ask me trivia, and i know it. I've read those books way too many times!

Summary: Great read but not suitable for the very young
Review: When I first picked up this book, I was skeptical. However, it didn't take long to appreciate its popularity--the plot moves quickly, the language is simple, and the descriptions of Harry's world are fascinating. J.K. Rowling is not the finest writer I have read, but she has a flair for creating and explaining every detail of her magical wizard world.

This book is a MUST for ages 9 and up, and perhaps some 7 and 8 yr olds. I do NOT recommend this as a read-aloud for younger children. In addition to some obvious scary or upsetting material, it sets terrible behavioral models for young children, for whom the line between fantasy and reality is blurry. The story is based on an educational system that removes children from their parents at an early age and leaves them relatively unsupervised. Harry and his friends disregard rules, ignore the warnings and advice of adults, and assume it is better to take things into their own hands. The interactions between students are often disrespectful and violent. This is hardly a good example for 4- and 5-yr-olds who may be struggling to learn how to follow rules and get along with their peers.

It seems to me that if a child is able to read this book by him/herself, then he/she is probably mature enough to read about and enjoy Harry's adventures without taking them as license to behave the same way.

Summary: When I read about Harry Potter, it just grabbed me right in!
Review: When I first read Harry Potter and the Sorcers' Stone, I didn't like it very much. I stopped after a while. But then my best friend told me to keep going. I did. I'll never regret it. It was the best book I've ever read. I am very happy my friend urged me to continue. I am going to a birthday party all on Harry Potter. I can't wait. Just like my friend urged me to read, I will try to urge you. It was about a small boy, living in the worst condition ever possible,he soon finds out that he is really famous. He goes to this magical place where he is really who he was always meant to be. He has a good time, goes throuth numerous adventures, makes many friends, and comes out happier that he'll ever be. This was a great book and I really want you to read it. It was totally fabulous.

Summary: Good at first, but...
Review: When I first read Harry Potter, I thought it was really good. Then, after a while, I saw how thin the plot was. It is ok, but it has no life. It is not a book you would want to keep forever. If you want to read some really good classics, I would recommend The Chronicles of Narnia.

Summary: AMAZING! IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT DOWN!
Review: When I first read the book, I didn't think that it would be fun at all. I heard all the rave, and thought it all foolish. But then I read the first few paragraphs, and said wow. This book was something else. It is totally worth the money, and despite any beliefs that you may have, it is wonderful. Get this book. It is one choice that you can never ever go wrong with. So easy to read, I read it in one day, and wasn't bored for a minute. Really keeps you on the edge of your seat, always excited or scared, or happy. READ IT!
