Rating: Summary: The Best by far Review: What an outstanding book! It's the best I've read in years. I find it difficult to put down after I started reading it. The book is very interesting because of the many funny characters and how Harry Potter likes to carelessly "lose points" for his house in the dormitory. The book is so good that I even re-read it again, something that I've not done before.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: What can be said that so many others haven't said? Probably not much. It's just a wonderful book and a wonderful series. I am a Ph.D. in English Literature, and my usual reading is on the order of, say, Dostoevsky, but when my 8-year old daughter finished reading this book, I casually picked it up. This was at about 7:00 p.m. Some time in the middle of the night, maybe 2 or 3 a.m., I finished the book. It doesn't matter how old you are or what your education level is, this book will delight. We should celebrate that Rowling has pulled off the greatest magic trick of all, which is to make millions of kids (and adults) passionately want to read. One last thing: I'd give anything to spend a semester as a student at Hogwarts school, even if I am a muggle.
Rating: Summary: Not just a kids book! Review: What can I add to the more than 3000 reviews that have already been written. I'm a male in my mid 30's and I bought this book to read to my sons. Instead we ended up getting the book on tape and listened to it while we where travelling, however I was so into the story I picked the book up and read it in an afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and highly recommend it for adults as well as teens.
Rating: Summary: This book got my daughter to read. Review: What can I add to the praise the Harry Potter books have deservedly received? Though they are a hybrid of previous generations of children's classics, they are more than wonderful. In particular they give a vivid picture of what a REAL boy would do in Harry's situation. What moved me to write this review is the reaction of my daughter. Reading has always been a chore for her, with her dyslexia variant. It is fair to say that until Harry Potter she never read for pleasure. After being forced to read the first few chapters she began to really get into it. What a pleasure to see your child devouring a book -- even staying up late to finish it. She is eagerly plowing through book 3 after having set herself the task of reading at least two chapters per night of the first 2 books until she finished. Maybe you too will be able to ignite a love of reading in your reluctant reader. I hope so. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read. Review: What can I say about this book? It it a perfect reading experience for all ages. I was incredibly disappointed that there was no more to read when I was done. If you pick up Harry Potter in the bookstore, don't judge it by it's first 50 pages. They are very odd, but once you break that barrier, you will have the time of your life reading it.
Rating: Summary: Magic and suspense......What more can you ask for? Review: What can I say that 5000 people have not? For the past five years I, like everyone else on this planet have been captured, mesmirized and enthralled by the Harry Potter books (192 million copies sold worldwide). The full blooded characters, rich landscapes and spectacular detail make these some of the best books out there, one of those EXTREMELY rare books that pale everything you read next for a long time after that. Now for those that have not read these books yet, (you are missing out on a great time, believe me) here is a small plot sumamry.......... On a cool winters night, a cat sits on a garden hedge in England. Surprisingly, the cat is not moving. A bearded man then appears over and speaks to the cat. Magically, the cat turns into a woman with her hair in a bun. As the two collaborate with each other, a man on a flying morotcycle flys down and places a baby on the doorstep and all of them leave. Now this is a very minor, very vague plot summary. I am refusing to add anyhting more to this review regarding the plot. I am just going to say that you will have a grand old time filled with suspense, magic and detail that you will look foreward to reading it a second time.
Rating: Summary: Thank you for convincing me! Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said about this book? It's spectacular, phenomenal...takes you on a wild adventure, no matter how old you are. I read the entire thing all the way from LA to Detroit, and I've never had such an enjoyable flight. I'm 23, and I loved every last second of it. You're never too old for Harry Potter!
Rating: Summary: As if this book needs another rave review . . . Review: What can I say that hasn't already been said by everyone else? This is the sort of book I would probably have loved when I was a kid. Now that I'm an adult, I still loved it. To me, that's the hallmark of a great children's book: one that doesn't talk down to its audience, one that can be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages.
Rating: Summary: Confessions of an enchanted adult Review: What can I say that hasn't been said already? I think labelling this book as purely "children's literature" is limiting. Good literature defies both the age barrier as well as any time restrictions. Therefore, I have little doubt that my great grandchildren will be reading and enjoying Harry's adventures years from now. I've been a big fan of fantasy fiction over the years, from Tolkien to CS Lewis to Dahl, and I think Rowling will take her place among these greats. I highly recommend it to any fan of fantasy, whether you're a child or an adult (with kids or not). Get a copy and see a classic in the making!
Rating: Summary: I remember the very first time I read this book... Review: What can I say? Harry Potter has become part of our culture, just like star wars, Disney princesses, and the beatles. Thousands of years from today, this story is still gonna be alive and and kicking in history texts, and archaeologists will treat first editions from Bloomsbury 1997 like holy grails. Ten years from now, people will be like "Where were YOU when Harry Potter was first published?" Reading this book for the first time is one of the most electrifying things anyone can experience. Our hero, Harry, has lived with his deliciously horrid aunt, uncle and cousin (the dursleys) since he was a baby. He has already accepted his underprivelidged life, when he discovers he is a wizard, and must begin schooling at Hogwarts school for witchcraft and wizardry. He has to uncover the mystery behind the evil sorcerer who caused his parent's death with the help of his friends Ron and Hermione (Her-my-o-nee!! Before the movie came out everyone pronounced it Her mee own). Hogwarts is so perfectly described, and the teachers and students create tons of comic relief (especially Fred and George) that it is a great book to read over and over again. However, the first 2 books in the series were far more enjoyable for me than the third or fouth ones, only because the plots are getting darker and stuff, and I really don't like reading books that are as morbid as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. And one thing more... couldn't the courts crack down on the Dursleys for letting Harry's cousin Dudley punch him and stuff? And actually, do they even have those courts in Britain?
