Summary: Wow, blew me off my feet!
Review: Upon finding this book in 1997 I was eager for a new read. I engulfed the book and later the series, loving every minute of it! A wonderful story, any who say other wise are plainly misinformed!

Summary: Splendid!
Review: Very few books have possessed the ability to grab my imagination and create a new world. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone has. Clearly a gifted storyteller, J.K. Rowling is a craftsperson who can invent a large family of believable characters from all walks of life in my view. Parts of Harry Potter are about the ideas of good and evil vs the idea that there are only shades of gray in the struggle for false power, greed, and ambition. To the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure and life is, well: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! and Love! The book mirrors global society in 1999 it seems to me by presenting a post-Christian point-of-view to several major and formerly religious holidays such as Christmas and Easter presenting them more in terms of secular outings/festivities vs traditional days of high Christian spiritual holydays celebrating events in the life of Jesus Christ. Harry Potter mixes the world of witches and wizards with a post-Christian world invented through Rowling's vivid imagination.

Summary: Vessle of evil or Harbinger of an Excellent tale?
Review: Vessle of evil or Harbinger of an Excellent tale?

To begin I am one of the rare readers who actually picked up Harry Potter and read it before it was thrown into hype by critics and parents alike for declaring Rowling akin to Dahl. Let me be the first to say, Rowling masterfully caputures the childhood spirit in this book, Rowling does not thrown in Anti-Christian or Pagan-Promoting verses into this novel. In fact Rowling focuses more upon the characters of the story instead of the underlying message of the story which often ruins novels that have the potential for greatness and are lost in their need stay simply what the author wants to say not what they are trying to tell.

I believe Rowling is simply trying to tell a story, a concept which I'm sorry to say many authors, (yes even the greats of time long passed) have not accomplished.

The story tells the tale of 11 year old Harry Potter, orphaned as a baby Harry has grown up in the loveless household of his aunt and uncle. Verbally abused as far back as he can remember and mercilessly picked on by his obese cousin. Harry Potter prays for a change in his situation that will lead this undeserving boy to a change for the better.

Suddenly Harry's life is swept up into turbulence when he recieves a mysterious 'letter' from an unknown writer. The story picks up pace from their as we learn Harry is in fact...a wizard. As were his parents before him, the story then follows Harry as he is swept up into the world of magic existing all around us and learns the true meaning friendship, individuality and knowing true happiness for the first time in his miserable life.

Harry Potter is a wonderful Story with no contraversial messages whatsoever in the story. J.K. Rowling does a rare thing for an author and focuses on the characters and the plot, not the political view point underlying it all. A rare accomplishment that other novels (example: The Golden Compass) masterfully achieve by going on and on about the authors views on life and religion and not the story.

Rowlings rare talent makes for a great novel! A definate must read!

Summary: A book for both young and old
Review: Vol... (The Devil) killed Harry's parents when Harry was very young. He was thus adopted by his uncle's family. Being treated badly, Harry Potter led an unhappy childhood life until one day he was told that he was a wizard. He entered the School For Witches and Wizards and became pretty successful. However, one of the teachers always went agaisnt him. Harry discovered that Spane, the teacher, seemed to have a conspiracy with someone who instended to steal the Sorcerer's Stone. In order to prevent this from happening, Harry with the help of his friends, managed to stand up against the evil... The ending is surprising, but it is not good here to reveal. It is left for those who have not yet read the book to discover after they select this book and begin their enjoyable reading. This book is in humorous language and gets increasingly interesting as the page number increases! A good read for both young and old. I have seen children nagging their parents to read the book out for them. I have also heard my friends saying that this book actually reminds them of their past -- they used to read children's stories by Green and Hans Anderson. So do not hesitate, but give it a try. The craze it brings is already enough to tell you how good a book it is!

Summary: Gypped
Review: Was there something um..."special" put in all of the other books that wasn't put in mine? Honestly, I find all the hype bewildering. The book is entertaining but certainly not the "best book I ever read" which is what I keep reading from other reviewers. It makes one wonder what these people have been reading all these years...the funnies perhaps? Well, it's certainly better than the funnies so in that respect I'd have to agree. Actually, I feel kind of cleansed not being part of the masses, the hoards that rave and drool over every word from the Potter series. It really isn't that great of a book. And in some respects may actually be inappropriate for some kids. We learn in the first chapter that Harry's parents are murdered and he is witness to the scene. He is persecuted and endures emotional and physical abuse by his adopted muggle family and later, he is almost killed when he comes upon a sorcerer drinking the blood of unicorns. Furthermore, some of the characters are rather flat. None of the non-witch type people (muggles), to my recollection, have any good qualities at all; rather, they are evil, foolish or lazy, etc. It makes one wonder why such one dimensional writing is praised to such extents as to create a climate of hysteria. I'm bewildered. It's a good read but again, certainly not "the best book I ever read in my life".

Summary: Like '5 Stars' Needs to Be Said
Review: We all know the wild success Harry Potter has faced. Well, there's a reason the kid made the cover of Time. The stories are great, with all the wonderment of Roald Dahl, whom I adored when I was younger. Here, J.K. Rowling has created a world of gentle whimsy and wonderment we can enjoy returning to again and again, and I find myself doing so often. I've read the first three times - I just can't put it down for long!

Summary: My new favorite book
Review: We all loved this series. My husband hasn't read a book for entertainment in the 15 years we've been married - He read these three books in a week! My 9 year-old wasn't interested in Harry Potter until I gave it to his teacher and she started reading it to the class. He came home in tears because he realized he missed the chance to give the worlds greatest book report. My son even went as Harry Potter for Halloween this year. This book is about true friendship and is a great joy to read.
