Rating: Summary: Unfortunately, THIS gets kids to read Review: Better get out your Uzis, darlings, this'll be a long and unpopular one. I find it kind of disturbing that Harry Potter has caused some kids to read, instead of thoughtful fantasy works such as "Lord of the Rings", "Redwall," or "The Riddlemaster of Hed." Harry Potter, however "magical" and enjoyable to read, has some decided tendencies that I really don't like. Ms. Rowling appeals to the lowest kind of sympathy. Harry gets kicked around by his horrible relatives who have sadistic qualities. Rather than making Harry sympathetic on his own merits, Rowling forces us to go "awwwww, poor Harry!" by putting him through emotional abuse and neglect which is... well, unrealistic. Real abuse isn't like that. The Dursleys aren't menacing--they're cartoons, and particularly bad ones. In a nutshell, Harry's suffering didn't endear me to him, because it was calculated to try and snatch sympathy by overstating itself. Of course, Harry doesn't HAVE many sympathetic merits. Oh, at the beginning of the book he thinks at one point that he shouldn't be happy that his babysitter broke her leg. But Harry loses any pleasantness when he's scooped up into the worlds of the wizards. He becomes very self-centered, unwilling to follow rules (which usually DO have a good basis), and apparently expects Dumbledore (the only character I like) to swoop in and save his butt when he gets into trouble. Over the course of the next three books Harry gets progressively worse, snubbing his date and treating rivals badly. I agree with "Amesbury"--Harry is snobbish and mean, and he doesn't seem to value friendship enough to pay attention to his friends. I mean, before he became friends with Hermione he was downright ROTTEN to her. He and Ron were talking about how horrible she was, when her only crime was telling them that they were breaking rules (wow, isn't that AWFUL?). The story would be much better if Harry weren't such a little brat. Harry Potter is a kid's dream. I love fantasy, but this is more than fantasy--this is blatantly self-indulgent for the sake of the audience. I mean, what kid hasn't fantasized about being taken away from the ordinary grind and chores and dreary schoolwork, and being snatched up into magical adventures? I plead guilty! I have done it too! But this book fans the flames by making the hero not only rich and famous, but also having him flout rules recklessly, endangering himself and others. Luck carries him through, not effort. He gets to zap bullies and scare his cousin without so much as a demerit (if you want a kid wizard's more mature and kind approach to dealing with bullies, read "So You Want to Be a Wizard," a far more original and interesting book). They get all kinds of glorious food that would normally never be allowed in a year-round school. They get owls. There's no realism in a world like that. Rowling injects a few bits, but they're not convincing. Harry Potter is the worst kind of prepackaged fantasy, the kind that encourages readers to act like three-year-olds "just because Harry does it." I am SO looking forward to when this fad ends. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going off to read "Lord of the Rings," where my beloved Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn are REAL heroes, good and kind people, who deserve the name.
Rating: Summary: BEWARE Review: Beware that once you start reading this book you won't want to put it down. It pulls you in and you are transported to another world. This world is decribed so vivivedly you sware you are there. The drawback is that since you can't stop reading this you tend to finish the book all too fast. I wish I had the next one by my side. I also wish that there were countless more that I had to look forward to not just two more. I want her to keep writing and writing and writing!!!! Has anyone else noticed that Harry looks like the author J.K. Rowling. I saw her on Rosie. OH and they HAVE to make this series into a MOVIE!!!!
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put this book down!! Review: BEWARE!! This book is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE. Once you start reading about Harry Potter and his magical world you will not be able to put the book down until you finish it. In fact, it is best to buy all of the current Harry Potter books available as you will be compelled to read them. Excellent story-telling. Don't let the fact that it is a children's book fool you, this one is for ALL AGES.
Rating: Summary: Terrific for kids Review: Book 1 is a creative book that kids will enjoy. I read it to find out if the "witchcraft" would be a problem for my kids (we are Christians). This book falls under the genre of The Lord of the Rings; although it is much more simplistic. Rowling keeps the characters simple and the plot simple, but she provides a few twists and turns that are not expected. I'd recommend it for kids - and us old folks as well - who enjoy fantasy.

Harry Potter is a young wizard that is very powerful. Harry Potter Goes to Hogwarts Witch craft and Wizardry school. Before he went to Hogwarts, he had to live with his Uncle Vernon and his Aunt Petunia and fat Dudley. Harry Potter did not get what he wanted but Dudley did. My opinion of the book is a positive audited. I liked this book because there were funny parts like the troll part. I recommend this book for kids 7 and older.
Rating: Summary: Book reviewhe adventures of Hogworts Review: Book review Harry potter and the sorcerer's stone Would you ever fly on a broomstick? Harry potter entered Hogworts School of witchcraft and wizardry. This story is about a boy who is a wizard but he didn't know it. His uncle said Harry's mom and dad died in a car crash but he lied. Rating: Summary: Fantastic book Review: Book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer¡¦s Stone An orphan, Harry Potter, lived with his aunt, uncle and cousin. They always mock and laugh at poor Harry. On his 11 years old birthday, he realized that he was the son of the wizards. His father and mother were the kind wizards killed by the bad guys. He wanted to fulfill his parent¡¦s hope, so he went to a magic school to learn to be a good wizard. In school, he understood how great magic was and he met two confidants. They learnt, played and supported each other. During the process of learning magic, they did some silly things that made people laugh. On the Christmas, Harry was so touched that he received the things that his parents left to him. They were magic cloth and stick. Harry loved them so much. Little Harry full of curiosity. He discovered a serious secret in school. Unluckily, the secret happened on him and it was a valuable and excited experience. Comment: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer¡¦s Stone is an interesting and exciting story. Before I read the book, I have watched the film. When I read the book again, the thrilled scene appeared in my mind. It was just like watching the film. The story is attractive. Harry¡¦s excited life in school appeal you to keep on reading. After finishing the story, I find that I indulge in magic. I even want to be a wizard but it is impossible. This is the reason why many people like this book. I recommend you to read this book and hope you like it.
