Rating: Summary: Not Just Another Kids' Book Review: Before I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling, I figured it was just another kids' book that had become another childhood fad, like Pokémon. I figured the book would have characters that were laughable in their in their predictability and shallowness. I soon found out otherwise. It turned out to be a very interesting novel with a highly developed plot and characters that seem real. Yet even as it engages the interests of older readers, with its not-so-complicated reading level, it can be comprehended by young readers at the same time. Harry Potter is one of those rare novels that parents can read with their children. Harry Potter, the protagonist of the novel, does not know it, but he is actually a wizard. The wizards and witches of the world exist in an underground society so that they are not disturbed by the wants of normal people around the world. Harry lives in a Cinderella-like situation, as his parents have been killed by a powerful evil wizard and he must live with his Aunt and Uncle, who treat him like dust, and his cousin, who continuously bullies him. But one day his life changes, and he is whisked away to Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches by an intriguing man who must weigh over 500 pounds. At Hogwarts, Harry tries to struggle through the daily activities of life, making friends and enemies alike. He stumbles onto the plot of a few evil teachers who seek to steal the Sorcerer's Stone to set their master, Voldemort, the evil wizard who killed Harry's parents, loose in full power upon the world. Harry faces the happiest and most challenging time of his life. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I originally read it out of curiosity over what all the fuss was about. But I will surely read the subsequent novels in the series because it was truly a great book. Don't think it's a kids' book. I'm warning you.
Rating: Summary: The Most Original Book Ever Review: Before i read Harry Potter, i thought imagination could not create completely new things: i thought it had to mix real things to create new ones (as humans and horses to make centaurs, horses and birds to make griffins, etc), and that it was that that made books boring and not original; you can read a vampires book and have fun, but after reading five, you don't want to hear anything about vampires. How wrong i was!!!!!! Things in Harry potter are so new, so original and are written with such "magic" that it creates a new imagination world, from where you don't want to leave. I personally enjoyed a lot reading this book, and, in fact, all the serie; and it made me get reading (and writing) again, because now i know that there're still new thigs. ... Istari

Rating: Summary: Best Fantasy I've ever read Review: Before summer had started I had never heard of Harry Potter, Hogwarts School of Magic, Ever Flavor Jellybean, and Peeves the Poltorgeist. But once my friend told me all about Harry Potter and his friends, I knew I had to read the book. Harry Potter made me laugh all the way through. With characters like Fluffy the 3 Headed Dog, Peeves the Poltergeist, and Malfoy the mean bully at school, its hard not to enjoy this book. Harry Potter is the story of a boy who's witch and wizard parents were killed by Voldermont-the dark wizard. Oh yes, he tried to kill Harry too, but it only left a Scar on his head. Harry alive and well now lives with the Dursleys-Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and Dudley their son. While he lives under the cupboard and never gets any mail. One letter is Adressed to him. His Uncle wrote let hime read it and day by day more letters flood the house. Even when the family tries to escape the letters they still get them at a shack on an island during the rain! After that the adventure begins for Harry Potter with games like Quidditch and him being the Seeker in the game. I definetly recommend reading this book to anyone and everyone. I can't wait to read the next 2 Harry Potter books.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter-Good For All Ages Review: Before you begin reading this forget everything they said about the age range for this book. I am almost 14 and really enjoyed this book. When I first picked up this book I saw it as a light read, nothing more. As I read it it remained a light read but also a good one. The writing style is simple and humorous with words and names such as quiddich, Hogworts, Dumbledorf that fit in perfectly. The characters are also wonderful. Harry, Ron and Hermoine work very well together (especially the back and forth dialouge between Ron and Hermoine) and the side characters are are also well written. With characters such as the nervious Quirrel, friendly Hagrid and mischiefous Peeves circulating the books pages and popping up where they wish makes the book better too. Some of the side characters are better than the main characters themselves. What makes this book great though, is the way the plot twists and turns and opinions changes. Heroes become villians, villians become heroes and suspects become innocent bystanders. The lttle puzzles also make this book great. The end itself is almost like a puzzle on psychiatry and the human mind. A must read, even if just for a light one, and a wonderful tale. Splended in all catagories. Buy it as soon as you can.
Rating: Summary: Magical Masterpiece Review: Before you start thinking that this is just a book for kids think again. If you have any kind of an imagination whatsoever you will love this book - whether you are 7 or 70. Fact - there are no wild romances here, you will not discover the meaning of life nor will you find a solution to stavation in bi-africa but you will have an absolutely marvelous time accompanying Harry Potter to Hogswort school for Witches and Wizards. Obviously, if you believe that reading about magic, dragons, giants and ghosts will send you straight to hell then don't buy this book. This book gets a big "Thumb's Up" from me! Do yourself and the kid inside you a favour and read it!
Rating: Summary: Fun for all ages Review: Began reading this to my 3 year old son who was more interested in other things. Decided to finish the book myself because of all the great reviews it had received and really enjoyed it. Simple story with great characters. I'm going to read the whole series.
Rating: Summary: The best fantasy book ever, beats Tolkien by miles! Review: Being a 11-year old with a 12th grade reading level, I thought this book would be a very boring book for simple-minded students, only to find that this is one of the best books I have ever picked up. Read all three of them! I just ordered the 2nd and 3rd!
Rating: Summary: A Great Blend Of Comedy & Suspense! Review: Being a 14 year old it was kind of strange that I'd read a book like this, but Harry Potter has to be one of the greatest fantasy books I have ever read. Along with classic fantasy sires like 'The Cronicles of Narnia,' 'The Wizard of Oz books,' & 'The Sword in the Stone' it makes for a great read. The story as everybody by now knows, is about Harry a young orphaned boy who lives with his 'wicked' aunt & uncle & their son Dudley. Harry who lives in a cubard under the stairs, isn't that much normal, he can make things happen when he gets angry enough and has an unusal lightning shaped scar on his forehead. When a strange letter comes in the mail for him, is Uncle Vernon & Aunt Petunia start to act extremely strange, ripping up the letter & giving poor Harry more chores to do. Then more & more of the same letters start to come, Uncle Vernon freaking out, then rows the family to a small island & takes shelter in a falling down boat house. That night, Harry's whole life changed, when an enormous wizard named Hagrid stomps into the boat house tellling Harry about his true identity, that he's a wizard. Harry amazed at the discovery is suddenly put into an magical alley to get suppies & on a magical train that will lead him to his new school, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry, & his new life. The book is excellent in every way & I praise JK Rowling for writing a pure masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Sucked in like the rest Review: Being a 22 year old woman of sound intelligence & body I throughly resisted getting into the whole Harry Potter rage. It seemed like another simple children's story with another mixed up world (I remember thinking the word "Muggle" seemed a bit harsh) and wrote it off as nonsense. Finally a friend of mine convinced me to just read the first book. That night I sat up, read the book and immediately decided I needed more. That's the beauty of Harry Potter. It sucks you in unsuspecting and refuses to let go. I found myself smiling throughout the whole book and fascinated by the characters. Adults don't be put off by the fact this book is found in the Children's section...it's definitely worth picking up when you need an escape or just want to have fun. As for me...I'm throughly smitten with Dumbledore :)
