Summary: Magic Stuff
Review: The arhuther of Harry Potter is J.K. Rowling. The protagonist is Harry. Almost all the setting take place at a school. Harry parents died. Harry live with his uncle and ant Dursley. Harry got a room but not exactly a room it is a closet. Harry goes to this school. Harry never played a sport called flying broomstick. My favorite part of this book is when this teacher is entering the class of Harry and everybody was talking out loud than they see a black cat entering the class. Everybody was quit until the cat jump on top of a table and while the cat was jumping on top of a desk the cat all the sudden turned to be Harry's teacher. When all the student saw what just happen with their own eyes what they saw a while ago they were surprised what they just saw. A lot of cool stuff happens in this book because is a lot of magical stuff in it. Do you think Harry might like this school he is going or not that is the question?

Summary: It was a very good book. Just the right amount of everything
Review: The author does a great job with the story telling and leaves the rest to your imagination. Easily to get into but not so easy to escape from. You wont put it down!

Summary: Thanks Rosie!!!
Review: The author was on a recent Rosie Odonnel ( could have been a repeat ) and I had to buy it after hearing her rave about endlessly. I have to agree with the much deserved praise that she had given it. I enjoyed the book very much and have ordered the second in the series as well as pre-ordered the third. I can't wait till they arrive so I can find out what happens to Harry, Ron and Hermione... This book should be read by anyone who can lend their imagination to fantasy...

Summary: I loved this book because it was exciting.
Review: The author, J.K. Rowling does an awesome job at making this book as if it were real life. Actually, it does relate to real life because in a child's mind, there are rather creul teachers like Professor Snape, a character in this book, who is mean to Harry Potter all the time. In this book, you find out about Harry Potter's parents, and his mean aunt and uncle who torture him. I think you will find this book very interesting because of all of the funny things that happen around Harry when he's with the " Muggles " who are normal, non-magic people. It is a great book!

Summary: strictly for the kids
Review: The backstory being a rather blatant ripoff of David Eddings Belgariad series, the unoriginal if mildly entertaining Harry Potter books serve their purpose: they give the kiddies something to enjoy reading. That alone is valuable, since studies report a decline in childrens recreational reading in America. The plots and characters are formulaic, but set in motion to accomplish some interesting things, and the moral dilemmas faced by the children are framed fairly well. I'm not surprised that children enjoy these books and hopefully it will inspire them to take off Rowlings' training wheels and get to something a bit more challenging.

What does scare me a bit, though, are the great numbers of phsyiologically adult people who are taken by these books. For kids, these books are fine. For adults, they're incredibly insubstantial and simplistic and the interest that they have generated among a good number of adults is evidence of a dearth of literary comprehension and abilility among adults of tragic proportions.

And there's the irony: perhaps if kids get inspired to read by the Harry Potter books, maybe they stand half a chance of not ending up as an adult who reads Harry Potter books!

Summary: (Tolkien + Dickens) x Cleary = Rowling
Review: The basic story of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is simple enough: young orphan Harry Potter, nearly eleven years old, lives with his unpleasant relatives, the Dursleys. But when his birthday arrives he discovers that he has a magical heritage, and the rest of the novel describes his marvelous adventures at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Simple enough. But the execution is an absolute delight, and author J.K. Rowling has created a genuine international cultural phenomenon. I believe that the secret to Rowling's smashing success might be broken down into a sort of mathematical equation: (Tolkien + Dickens) x Cleary = Rowling.

In other words, she has created a truly magical, yet consistent alternate world (as did J.R.R. Tolkien in his "Lord of the Rings" saga), added to that by a propensity to people that world with memorable characters who have a rich assortment of defining quirks (as did Charles Dickens in his many great novels), and multiplied it all by a skill at depicting young people who are realistic and who engage the reader's emotions (as did Beverly Cleary in her novels about Henry Huggins and other characters).

I read this book mainly out of curiosity over the endless media hype. And when I did, I discovered a fantastic new world to which I immediately wanted to return, and a cast of individuals to whom I felt immediately connected. And on top of that, I found my vocabulary enriched by an assortment of new words: Quidditch, Muggles, Diagon Alley, Golden Snitch, etc. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" lives up to--and surpasses--the hype. So whether you ignore or enjoy the media frenzy, read the actual book. You just might get hooked.

Summary: Very Interesting, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY
Review: The beginning may be a little boring, but stick with it. It is worth it! The ending is pretty weird. Kind of written like a Roald Dahl book. I am nine years old - parents, buy this book for your kids!

Summary: My Kid's Loved It.
Review: The best accolade for this book: I read it aloud to my first grader and kindergartener over about a month. Most nights they were clamoring for another "Harry Potter" session.

And what's not to like for young kids? This book features an English boy Harry Potter, living an utterly miserable life with an aunt and uncle who wish he had never been forced upon them. Potter's cousin is big, fat and make's Harry's life unbearable. Auntie and Uncle force him to live under the stairs, though a spare bedroom holds their son's toys.

Harry's life changes when he is informed he is a wizard - an not just any wizard, but the son who defied the evil Voldemort, the darkest practitioner of the Black Arts, by living when "You Know Who" (as he is referred to by magic types to terrified to say Voldemort) came to kill Harry's entire family when he was a toddler.

Harry is soon off to magic school at the wonderful Hogwarts. Without spoiling the book, understand that many magical and interesting things happen at Hogwarts: broom flying, the impossible to understand game of Quiddich, baby dragons, potions and spells, journeys into forbidding forests and plain old fashioned school chumming.

It's a little tough for me to judge this book as an adult read, since I read the entire thing aloud. My kids were enchanted. That's enough for five stars in my book.

A note: This is a fun book. Yes, it's about witchcraft and magic and good and evil. Those who liken this to some type of threat to God and morality by its' embrace of the Halloween Arts should lighten up. It's just a ripping good yarn aimed at young kids - not the type of thing that will set youngsters off dressed in black clutching an Ouiji Board. My youngsters had no problem realizing the fantastic story was just that.
