Summary: Harry
Review: Say that you've spent the first ten years of your life sleeping under the stairs of a family who hates you. Then, suddenly, a magical twist of fate, you find yourself surrounded by wizards, giants, and three-headed dogs. Not only that, but you discover that your are a wizard yourself. That is what happens to Harry Potter in J.K. Rowling's, new exciting book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry Potter is funny, exciting, and mysterious book.
In the beginning is where the mystery part of the book begins. In the beginning all that we know is that Harry Potter is a orphan and that he has a lighting shaped scar on his forehead, we don't know how he became a orphan or how he got that scar on his forehead. That is what is so cool about this book, J.K. Rowling leaves you, after every chapter, with questions about the chapter. The book also has some very exciting points in it, like when Harry and Malfoy found the unicorn that was hurt; Harry had taken one step toward it when a slithering sound made him freeze where he stood. A bush on the edge of the clearing quivered... Then, out of the shadows, a hooded figure came darting out across the ground towards the unicorn like some stalking beast. Quote from book (pg.256)
Harry Potter was one of the most exciting books that I have ever read in my life. I have never really been interested in fantasy books, but my aunt told me that it wasn't just fantasy, it was also a mystery type of book. So I bought the book and read it; I ended up really liking it so I bought the second, third, and fourth book to read also. Out of all the sequel books that I have read also I have enjoyed Harry Potter the most.

Review: Say you've spent the first 10 years of your life sleeping under the stairs of a family who hates you. Then, in a weird, magical way of luck, you find yourself surrounded by wizards, a caged snowy owl, a phoeniz-feath wand, and jellybeans that come in every flavor, including stawberry, curry, grass, and sardine. Not only that, but you find out that you are a wizard yourself! This is exactly what happens to Harry Potter in J.K Rowling's book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. In the nonmagic human world-- the world of "Muggles"-- Harry is a nobody, treated like dirt by the aunt and uncle who were made to take care of him when his parents were killed by the evil Voldemort. But in the world of wizards, Harry is famous as a survivor of the wizard who tried to kill him. He is left only with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, and a bunch of powers to remind him that he's different from his aunt, uncle, and spoiled, piglike cousin Dudley. After watching the movie, I knew I had to read the book once more and write a review on it.

My favorite part of his book was the part when Harry Potter ahd to learn how to play Quidditch. He had to learn the basic rules of the game and how to play while balancing on a broomstick. He had to adjust to the game for it was his first time playing it. Even though his broom was jinxed, I would say he played a good game even thoguth the other team cheated and won. He learns the regulations of the game and is filled with knowledge on the game after playing it.

I think this book is great for everyone of every age to enjoy at any time. This book is for the whole family to enjoy. YOu can never predict what will happen next. There is always a cliffhanger at the end of each chapter, which is my favorite thing about a book. I believe taht J.K. Rowling is a wonderful author and has a bright future way ahead of her.

Summary: Another World
Review: School can be so tough on a kid these days! Sometimes, I feel like I just want to give reality a break. J.K Rowling has handed kids like me, a key, to another world, where we can forget about homework, nagging teachers, and other problems, and indulge ourselves in the whimsical world of Harry Potter. It's truly amazing how a book can do that, but that's exactly what Harry Potter gives to millions of children around the world. Thankyou for my key.

Summary: Where's the one zillion star rating?
Review: See title. This is a wonderful, imaginative book for adults and children everywhere. The language is great, the vocabulary amazing, and the story so real you look at people passing by on the streets and wonder, "Is that one a wizard?" In my sixth grade classroom, during silent reading, you look around and more than half the class - including the teacher - are reading one of the Harry Potter books.

But there is a point that needs to be made. All you people who think that these books are going to make kids go out and worship the devil, get a life. We are all so biased against witchcraft: we all saw the Snow White and Wizard of Oz movies and now we assume anything with the word "witch" in it is bad. Rowling is simply putting a new outlook on witches. Maybe they aren't old women with green skin and crooked noses and warts everywhere. Who knows ...

And you people - stop with the violence thing, okay? We know that this is a FICTIONAL story, there is no evil wizard named Voldemort, and no wizards at all. We aren't idiots! Also, Voldemort, Tom Riddle, and Peter Pettigrew are all made out to be villians, not heros or idols. They are the BAD GUYS, and we know it! If you want violence, watch the local news. Read the bible. Turn the television to MTV or WWF. There's violence.

Face it! Kids aren't stupid. We know the differnce between the villian and the hero. We can tell for ourselves and we don't need theses books banned. For all you TV-nuts out there who never even read the books but critisize them anyway: Do you remember the days when you used a little thing we call IMAGINATION?

All things said, this book is wonderfully written with an elaborate story plot. It also has a wonderful, twisted, unexpected ending. So read on, bookworms, and discover the pleasures or a good, imaginative fantasy story!

Summary: spectacular story-telling CD
Review: Short and sweet - the book is very interesting, the CD is fantastic.

When I found myself facing a formidable road trip (18 hours each way) I wondered how to pass the time and decided to find out what this Harry Potter phenomenon was all about. So I picked up the first 3 HP books and took Jim Dale along for the ride. The voices, the intonations, the emotions, the tones - the best I've ever heard. I was so enthralled listening how he made the story come to life that I almost ran out of gas. A tour de force. I almost want to make the trip again so I can buy the next 2 volumes!

Summary: Simply Enchanting
Review: Simply enchanting. The first book in the Harry Potter series gets you hooked every time. You should trust me, I have read it nine times. The plot is about a boy who grows up in the Muggle world (Muggle means none wizarding folk), and one day gets a letter saying that he, Harry, is a wizard and has been accepted to Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. He suddenly finds that he is famous for something he cannot even remember, for being the downfall of the darkest wizard there ever was...he is off to Hogwarts, making friends and at the same time...enemies. Yet there is a secret at the school...something he and his friends stumble upon and are pulled into...and Harry comes face to face with his worst enemy of all...but will he survive? Though I love all of the books, this was my favorite.

Summary: Enter Harry Potter's world-You'll never want to leave!
Review: Simply put, an absolutely fantastic book. Comparable to Lewis' Narnia chronicles and L'Engle's Wrinkle series, this is an introduction to Harry Potter's world, one which you'll never want to leave! Humor and wisdom abound in this volume which will touch the souls of many readers. Already topping the best-seller list (for adults!!) in the U.K., there appears to be no age limit for "Harry Potter" lovers. I find it disappointing that they've changed "Philosopher's stone"(UK) to "Sorcerer's stone"(US). The former is the ultimate goal of alchemy, as explained in the book, and changing it will detract from what this stone signifies. Although the general tone is comic, the book possesses depth, perhaps because the author is a single mother who has suffered many hardships in her life. Much of the book was written in a cafe with her baby asleep beside her, because their apartment was too cold to write in.

Summary: Fascinating story. Great imagination.
Review: Since I am a Christian, I have heard many complains about this series, specifically, the promotion of magic and wizardry.

I bought the first book of the series to see what's the big deal with it. I could not put it down and finished it in 2 days. It is simply fascinating. The book is very easy to read, the plot is very catching and intense with lots of surprises, and the imagination is wonderful. All in all, this is a great book. Compared with the famous mythology books like Lord of the Rings, this series is more geared towards younger readers with simpler characters and more straight forward plot. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I bought the rest 3 books in the series and finished them quickly. Those 3 are also very good but not as good as this first one probably because the novelty starts to wear off.

To my surprise, magic and wizardry isn't the central role in this series. The book is good because the plot is catching and the imagination is wonderful, not only because magic and wizardry is in it. After all, mastering magic is the yearning and the imagination of many good people when they grow up. It is only when magic is used for evil purpose or when people are drawn and controlled by the evil behind magic (like the Dark Lord Voldemort in the series) is it started to turn evil. In this book, magic is used by both the "good" and the "bad" guys, so it is more at a neutral role.

One thing does concern me in the book, though. It is the defying of the authority. Harry and his gang repeatly broke the rule and got away with it (and earned rewards from doing so!). This is not a good role model since we need to recognize that youngsters are prone to risky behaviors and normally such behaviors bring about bad results, not like the good rewards depicted in the books. Thus, young people need to submit to authorities who have more wisdom and experiences. I am worried that many young people will be encouraged to ignore responsible teachings and to pursue risky behaviors because of the book. So in my opinion, this book is better to be read by young people after some guidance from their parents.
