Rating: Summary: Diane Duane's Wizard series is much better Review: Nothing new here. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone iswell-written and engaging, but there is nothing original here. Harrycould just as well be any of many super-youths unaware of their power and heritage, such as Wort or Luke Skywalker. The plot is predictable.Much better is the Wizard series (So You Want to be a Wizard, etc.) by Diane Duane.

Rating: Summary: The Best Childrens Book EVER Review: Now, after reading a few reviews I came across one that said the book was to goth for children. I don't get that. Were in this entire book is their ever a sence of darkness. Harry Potter was mild and tame compared to other childrens books. Another review said that it was too mature and that the parent pulled their child from class while the teacher was reading it. This upsets me. It's fine for parents to decide want their kids can and can not read, but when you pull your child from school becuase of one book, you seriously need to think about how that will effect the childs abition to read latter on in life. Anothe thing. When your child reaches high school and it's required for him to read certian books for grades. Are you going to pull you child from class then? now I know that I've taken more time to talk about the reviews then the book itself, but the other reviews can tell you more reasons then I could ever think of on why this book is the best childrens book EVER.

Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Review: Of all the books that I have read, not one has caught my attention as much as this book has. This highly entertaining, and extremely vivid book kept me up all night until the very end. This book teaches several lessons to the children it is aimed at. It is a story of an orphan whose life magically changes. Harry Potter learns that he is actually a magical wizard with many powers which he is unaware of. At first his horrible uncle tries to stop Harry from attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. With the help of an unwelcomed visitor, Harry is swept off his feet and taken to this magical school. He then meets up with two of his fellow classmates, who he shares most of his adventures with. From school bullies, to saving the school from extreme disaster, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone shows that children can make a difference in this world. This book also teaches children lifelong lessons they could not find in any ordinary children's book. This book contains the "intellectual backbone" which most books lack. Kudos goes out to Rowling in creating this book. He has really captured the essence of what a children's book should be. I consider myself a very selective reader, and if this book caught my attention as much as it did, I can only imagine what it did for avid readers. I encourage any person, young or old, to read this book. It would be time very well spent.
Rating: Summary: "TOTALIUS PERFECTUS READIOLA" Review: Of course, I just made up the words I used in the subject for this review and likened them to some of the words Harry and his friends used while performing "spells" at wizard school. The gist of my words translates to "Totally Perfect Reading." Just one chapter into this book and already I could see what all the hoopla is about. With just seventeen written pages, J.K. Rowlands has taken me out of Pennsylvania and transported me to Privet Drive, the soon to be home of one Harry Potter. Not only did I unexpectedly enjoy this book, but I loved the feel of the smooth pages and the very different feel of the cover as well. This turned out to be one great reading experience. Since the book was written for young adults, it didn't even require me to read between the lines, as everything is right out there at your disposal. Each chapter was an adventure and all I had to do was read away. Since a number of reviewers have already explained the plot, I'll give you a crash course in Harry Potter 101. ...Harry is a boy with wizard powers ...Muggles are people like you and me who don't have any unusual powers ...Hogwarts is the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry where Harry attends ...Ron and Hermione are Harry's best friends at Hogwarts ...Quidditch is similar to our soccer but is played in the air on broomsticks ...The Sorcerer's Stone can be dangerous if put in the wrong hands If you're like me, then you're probably thinking, "I'm a grown person...why would I read this book?" Well, think again. The phenomenon of Harry Potter is one that is well deserved and it is only after reading this book, that I was able to come to that realization. It is so clever that it's no wonder it has captured the hearts of all the young kids today. And what a perfect time I chose to be reading it - during the week that the movie is premiering. Every day I see clips on TV showing scenes I had just read - what fun! I remember those days when my son was young and I got to see all the new and exciting kid's movies simply by taking him. At 17, he's no longer interested in going with me but my daughter (25) will be home for Thanksgiving and has promised to accompany me. It's a good thing I have kids. Otherwise my husband would be seeing Harry Potter with me because, after reading the book, there's no way I'm not seeing the movie.
Rating: Summary: entertaining light reading Review: Often thought of as a kid's book, the Harry Potter series also makes for entertaining light reading for adults. Though voluminous, the books can be read quickly taking only a day or two of focused reading.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter #1 Review: Oh how can you NOT love this book? A perfect book for all ages, 9-99. It's great for kids that can't find fun in reading. JK Rowling knows how to make the blood pumping through the brains of kids, and adults!
