Summary: Not Just for Kids
Review: As an adult, I was thrilled with the Harry Potter books and read all four of them in about two weeks. Needless to say, I had "Harry-itis" but loved every minute of it. My affinity with Harry started with Book I and only got better as it went along. Not just for children, we, as adults, needed to be reminded we are (or were) all Harry at one time or another in our lives .. messy hair, gawky and tape on our glasses. I doubt if there isn't anyone who never felt they didn't fit in, or they were different from the rest of their family. I imagine everyone has wondered at one time or another if they had a special gift, and if so, what was it. I am certain everyone has wondered at times whether it would pay off in the long run to remain "good" rather than to follow less savory "evil" ways. Everyone has had monsters .. dragons, three-headed dogs, trolls, and witches they have had to conquer in their lives. I am certain at some point everyone has felt there is more to their life than "living with the Dursleys" and like Harry we haven't had a clue how to go about finding more. Everyone has been Harry Potter, everyone has found their magic or at least some of it at times during their lives, everyone has found their own "pack" as Harry found his wizarding friends in Ron, Hermoine and his role models at Hogwarts. Harry is a friend we want to have, even as adults, we want to go to Hogwarts, visit the Leaky Cauldron, conjure up potions, play quidditch, and fly on a broomstick (although I am not sure I really want to deal with Professor Snape!) It was a book that reminded us how hard it was to grow up and reminded us of how special we are, who we have become. Magic, faith, friendship, truth .. we all need more of that in our world, in our own world. Harry is us and we love him!

Summary: Sheer fun
Review: As an avid reader both of children's literature and adult literature, this book deserves the high praise it is receiving. My wife is an elementary school teacher, and she introduced me to the work of Ms. Rowling. After reading the book, I am prepared to compare the Harry Potter series with Lloyd Alexander's tremendous Prydain series. (For those who enjoy Harry Potter, give "The Book of Three" by Alexander a try.) These two series are truly the upper echelon of children's fantasy writing.

Also, as one who has spent time in England, it was a thrill for me to hear of places so dear to my heart. Hagrid's Scottish accent was truly a delight to run through my mind.

A good read for all.

Summary: My new favorite thing
Review: As an eighteen-year-old freshman in college I am not at all ashamed to admit that Harry Potter is my new favorite thing. I have all four of the Harry Potter novels and have read each one twice already. They are the most creative, exiting, humorous and enjoyable books that I have ever come across. The adventures are gripping and the characters are priceless. I laugh out loud and secretely wish that I was attending Hogwarts with Harry than my own school. Likewise, sitting down and reading any Harry Potter novel is a refreshing break from a long day of classes. As most of us need a little joy in our lives, I would recommend any of these novels to anyone, of any age or interest. I find it hard to believe that there is someone who is not susceptible to the spell of Harry Potter. These are, by far, the most imaginative and entertaining books that I have ever read. If you enjoy reading and appreciate a good adventure, Harry Potter will give all that you desire and more.

Summary: Thumbs up for Harry Potter
Review: As an evangelical Christian, but one who likes to evaluate things for myself and not just take someone else's word for it, I took a great deal of interest in the Harry Potter hoopla. Are the Harry Potter books evil? Do they promote Satanism? I decided to find out for myself, starting with the first book. My verdict? These are the most enjoyable, creative, and imaginative books I've read in the fantasy genre (please stop calling these children's books!) since "Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia". I do not believe the Harry Potter books are dangerous because they take place in a fantasy realm, not a realistic one, and, let's face it, with all the abuse poor Harry has to endure, both in the Muggle world and at Hogwarts, it doesn't make the wizarding life look totally appealing, if such a life were even a possibility. Too many difficulties, and too many close brushes with death (or at least expulsion)!

Having read through the first three books by now, there are some questions I have to raise. Since the Dursley's obviously dislike Harry and put him through much emotional abuse, can they just not put him up for foster care, or does England not have such a system? And how can someone as hateful and patently unfair as Professor Snape be allowed to teach? As sympathetic a character as the headmaster Dumbledore is, I think the school needs a reformer to come in and improve the system, making for a more fair and equitable environment for young wizards and witches. But then, I get angry at injustice, and much injustice goes on in this series. I guess it adds to the plot.

Kids will be reading this book 100 years from now, just as they are still reading "Alice in Wonderland". And, like "Alice", this book is not just for kids, and in fact I think can be more appreciated by adults. I'm not sure I'd put it in "Lord of the Rings" class, but it has classic potential nonetheless.

Summary: Enchanting ! Spellbinding! Exciting!
Review: As Harry's story unfolds the reader is "enchanted" by the mysteries that await him. This is a great read for parents and children to share. When this book is in your child's hands, the TV does not exist! The reader is truly transported to the world of Harry Potter to share his joys and trials. Hopefully his adventures will go on and on and on!

Summary: J.K. Rowling writes a book you'll never forget!
Review: As I flew on my broomstick through the magical mind of Harry Potter I noticed that not only had it taken mind off of where I was and was happening around me, but that I was taking a journey that no other book has taken me on before. Harry Potter is a book not only about magic and spells, but it also shows the true beauty that authors can show through their unbelievable talents. If I had the power to speak to whoever reads this and personally convice them that this book is full of wonders and morals that they must uncover, I most definetly would without a moment's hesitation. While I read about magic, spells, and charms, I felt J.K. Rowling put a spell on this book to make her writing so unique yet breath taking. In all the books I have read, most of them seem like the author was losing his or her talents towards the end of the book. J.K. Rowling never left me bored or wanting to put the book down. In most books I count the pages I have left until the book is finished. In Harry Potter I counted the pages I read, never wanting it to end. J.K. Rpowling's writing style never failed to amaze me throughout the whole book. No matter what chapter I was on, I kept telling myself, I wish all the children in the world could read this book just to show that books can tell you the true beauty of friendship, courage, anmd kindness. This story, I guarantee, will sweep you off your feet and into a world of enchantment.

Summary: Not Just for Kids!!
Review: As I was browsing my local book store one day, looking for a fun and interesting book to read, I was given the suggestion of the "Harry Potter" series by another woman. I had on many occasions picked up the HP books and debated on getting one. But, being a 36 year old, I felt that they were only for children - NOT! I found Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to be FABULOUS... I read the book in under two days and am on to the second of the series. I highly reccomend this book to people of all ages who want an exciting story to read that will keep them enthralled and taken to another world. I am looking forward to all J.K. Rowlings HP books! Once you read Harry Potter, you will be HOOKED!!!
