Summary: Capitvating.A must for parents to read with their children.
Review: My wife and I read it to our children, ages 11 and 8 -- one chapter a night. We all found it captivating and engaging. The children got more enthralled with each chapter. One night, they couldn't wait for the end, and we read the final four chapters. I only logged in this morning to find out when the sequel would be available. It's apparently out already in England. I (and they) can't wait. We recommend it wholeheartedly.

Summary: Tiresome
Review: My wife bought the first two Harry Potter books for me last Christmas because I had mentioned that I was interested in finding out what all the fuss was about. The answer? Not much. This is nothing more than an engaging, if shallow, tale about a misfit who makes good. Nothing different or more enlightening than any of a thousand other books already out there.

Harry is a semi-likeable guy. He doesn't cause any grief or put anyone in terrible danger, and he's a hell of a Qwiddich player, but that's about it. The rest of the book is fairly standard fare, easily cribbed from any of a dozen other children's books from the last quarter-century.

Summary: Start with an open mind and you'll be surprised
Review: My wife read the 4 books that had been released at the time and she loved them. She finally convinced me to read them before the movie came out. I was reluctant but finally gave in. Actually, I've still only read the first one, but don't tell her that.

Anyway, I read a lot of fantasy. I've read Tolkein, Lewis, Martin, Jordan, Brooks, Kay, and many more. I know what I like, I know what I don't like. I liked Harry Potter.

It is simple enough for an older child to understand but I couldn't put it down. I knew it wasn't for younger children when death happens in the first chapter. This actually perked me up a little and I read on. I don't want to ramble because there are 3,000 other reviews here and it is pretty unlikely anyone will read mine. But, just the same, I found the book to be one of the most entertaining I've ever read.

Don't expect it to be the greatest book you've ever read. Put away the "I'm gonna hate it" attitude before ever reading it. This is the main reason for bad reviews of this book in my opinion. Start it with an open mind and you'll enjoy it as much as so many have.

Summary: A Total Must Read
Review: My younger brother's (9) class read this, and he was raving about it. He then bought the book. I was looking for something to read, so I picked it up. At first I wasn't so sure it was any good (I'm in 7th grade) and figured "It's not as good as he says". I now stand corrected! It is one of the best written books I've read, and that's saying a lot considering how many I've read. It IS a must read!

Summary: If Only More children's books were as well written!
Review: My youngest brother read this book and loved it. He begged me to read it and I stoutly refused. "It's a foolish kiddy book," I told him," I would hardly be interested in that stuff". Well, finally I agreed to read a few chapters. I couldn't put it down. When people came into my room to talk to me, I would get mad at them. I only wish that all of the books children read to-day were as well written and excercising of their imaginations.

Summary: Escapism for Adults
Review: Nearly 4000 reviews so I'll be brief. It's not just a kids book andthe hype is justified. In case you live in a cave or the moon.. Harry Potter small child parents dead lives with horrible relatives, gets invited to wizard school, makes friends and enemies, learns the wizard sport, has adventures.
Should only take a few hours to read and you can spare that can't you?
Any idea why the titles different (In England it is the Philosophers stone)

Summary: Hooked
Review: Never one to fall for fads, I was wary when JK Rowling's series hit the best sellers lists everywhere. I resisted reading them for a long time before I heard my brother read a chapter to his son, and then I was hooked. Now, my entire family has read the books -ages 5 to 55- and loved them. This is a classic for all ages. So, just give in: I know you'll love them too.

Summary: A new fan! Picked it up for my son-read it myself!
Review: Never one to jump on the "current craze" wagon I finally gave in to the Harry Potter craze! I am in awe as to the amount of fun, fantasy and the range of lesson and feeling in this book. This was the first one read but won't be the last.

First it was the shampoo girl at my hairdresser, she is 19 and telling me how much she enjoyed Harry Potter. Then to see the craze and that kids are letting go of computer games, gameboy and TV to read! My 8 year old loves it and he has just started reading it. My son is a perfect match for Harry Potter as he is extremely dramatic and creative but also full of feeling.

Is is easy to see why the range of readers is so diverse and why the craze. The book is not only well written but filled with interesting fun fantasy and above all lessons and feelings.

As a parent who is always supportive in finding books both suitable and of interest to my children, I think this is WONDERFUL entertainment and a great vehicle to get kids back to books!

Summary: Pure Magic
Review: Never. Not ever have I entered such an amazingly, coulorfull, vividly imaginary world such as this book.It is utterly fantastic.Rowling must be the most clever authors I've aver come across.Shame they didn't keep the proper title (its Philosophers! Not sorcerers!!!)for the movie which is currently in pre-production.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Don't Miss This Book
Review: No matter how young or old you are Harry Potter is the best book. I know it sounds like I am trying to sell it but I am not. I started reading this book and my mind opened up to a whole new world of magic and mystery. Any time I need to give a gift to someone I give them Harry Potter. It probaly won't change your life but it will prove to be a great book. One suggestion is you read them in order because it will be easier to understand, even though the author referrs to the other books a lot it is still a good idea. I will make this short don't spend all your time reading review, just start the book.
