Rating: Summary: Three spectacular audio renditions of Harry Potter! Review: My son (13) and I have just finished our third audio tape of the Harry Potter books. These renditions of the Sorcerer's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkaban by Jim Dale are remarkable. Dale's character's are humorous, fully convincing, consistent, and each one is unique. His accents and variety of vocal qualities make the story come alive. After reading the Sorcerer's Stone, I really think I like the audio versions better! Great for driving with the kids on vacations. The whole family will enjoy them.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read for Kids and Parents -- ALIKE! Review: My son (grade 2) and I have just finished Harry Potter and we both loved it!! We argued over who got to read (mom or dad) because none of us wanted to miss a word. Harry Potter brings a child's imagination alive and each chapter leaves you waiting for the next. This book will have a long shelf life with many good reads in the future. We can't wait for the next adventure!!!!
Rating: Summary: I bought this book for my kid! Review: My son and his Mom would read this book before he went to bed at night. He is 11 years old and they both enjoyed Harry Potter. I am 51 and decided I needed to know what was going on. I read the book and really enjoyed it. Now they are on the second book and I have to wait til they get done with it before I get my chance! For a kids book it is fun for adults!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Harry Potter! Review: My son got the 3 Harry Potter books for Christmas. I promptly read them because I read all the non-baby books to make sure I don't object to any content. Then I read them again. They are so wonderful and fun! A must read for kids of all ages. (My 7 year old loves them, too)!
Rating: Summary: Cassette tapes match book text and aid young readers ... Review: My son is eight and very interested in the Harry Potter books but I think he was also turned off by the large size of the books. He is a good reader but not yet adept at the larger chapter books. He was struggling with a page here and a page there and he still was not frustrated enough to put it aside. Although he was not reading at his usual pace. I decided to purchase the tapes for long car rides.Yesterday I watched my son take a bookmarker and follow the book text with the audio tape. He is so pleased with this and he is breezing through the book with the wonderful voice from the tapes and also tackling a larger range of words. The tapes are great and they are enhancing the book text for my son!
Rating: Summary: wrong age catagory on book Review: my son of 32 said, mom thats a childrens book. oops! but he could not pry my ear phones away from me. (love audio books) i'm hoping the next in the series takes up where this one left off. it was very well written for any age and i think the cover should state 6 to 106 years of age. i am a mystery reader and listened to this out of desperation on a long trip by myself, cant wait to get the rest of the series. if you read it, you wont be dissapointed. best book i've read in years.
Rating: Summary: What a Great Series! Review: My son read these books in school, and I heard about Harry Potter everytime I turned around; so I decided to see what the fuss was all about. Well....a week later, I am starting Book 3! You can relate to the kids that are outsiders for being different; and who doesn't love a good puzzle to solve? We can't wait til Book 4 arrives!
Rating: Summary: Magical! Review: My son tried reading this book last year, but he felt scared and didn't continue. After all the publicity for book 5, I started reading the first. The story is not only about the orphan Harry who is living a miserable life at his aunt's. It is about courage, truth and self-confidence. Magic comes from the inside and shines through one's self. It is a lovely story, the magical part makes it out of this world, but if you look deep, they are only humans with conflicting feelings and different aspirations. Each with his own dream, choosing his own path to achieve it! It is funny, bright and for all ages!
Rating: Summary: It's the content that concerns me Review: My son was introduced to this book in his 3rd grade class. Because it was so well rated, and included in the school curriculum, my wife decided to purchase it for bedtime reading. After reading several chapters, I developed a concern that portraying witchcraft, wizardry, and sorcery as normative, positive and embraceable was inappropriate for the impressionable mind of a nine-year old.
Rating: Summary: Thank you R.K. Rowling! Review: My son's teacher was reading this series to him. He loved these books, so, we bought the set for him. Well, once my husband and I started reading, we could not stop! These books are excellent for people of all ages! The spectacular fantasy storyline combined with the many realities that we face growing up, is so appealing! We can relate to Harry's problems of growing up, yet, we can fantasize about having special powers and a magical destiny! I can't wait until the next books are out, and neither can my son! I haven't read such fun and exciting books in ages!
