Summary: I'm 14 years old
Review: My basic comment for this book is, "Doesn't ANYBODY notice that these books are glorified horror stories???" A boy younger than me who hears demonic voices; boys and girls who are growing up learning how to perform magic-do we REALLY need this? I've read the entire series, 1-3, each is erier than the next. In the 2nd book-a girl who was MURDERED in the school bathroom by an un-known force haunts a bathroom stall;Another is posessed by evil spirits; A cat is hung mercilessly by it's tail from a light-fixture. In book 3, Harry relives again and again the night that his parents sacrificed themselves for him. He hears his mother screaming, "Please, not Harry! Take me instead!" I am obviously not a teacher or a parent, but I am saddened by the fact that that such a talented writer with such witty humor and spunky charecters is writing about such things as Dementors, creatures who suck the very essence of life from other beings.I realise that the books are presented in a humorous, interesting form that draws you in, thanks to the talented author, but isn't this a pitiful comment on our society, that our favorite books for young children are glorified horror stories?

Summary: A Real Realistic Fiction Novel
Review: My brother started reading this book and recommended it to me. Of course, I thought this is just going to be another one of those fairy tales books. To my surprise, I felt endulged in this book and read it everywhere, under the covers when I'm supposed to be asleep or during class when I 'm supposed to be studying. I turned page after page. By the time I was done with the first one I had started on the second one. Soon most of my friends were reading it. It appeared at book fairs and carnivals and bookstores all over the world. I can't wait to see the movie!

Review: My brothers and I were begging my mother to read more after she put the book down. My Family was on vaction in cabin. So I (14 yrs old) had to share a room with my brothers (10 and 7). When I was reading Teen my mother started reading to my bros. I got drawn in. I can't wait to read the next one. I suggest every one read it to their kids. PS: Hermione, Ron, Pro.McGonagal and Hagerid were our fave people.

Summary: Superb book -- one problem
Review: My children and I have loved the Harry Potter books thoroughly, and this one, the first, is also one of the best -- perhaps because the concept behind the series is new and exciting. A boy discovers he's a wizard. Need I say more? Most children day-dream about that sort of idea. As to the plot: the narrative never gets bogged down by excess prose, and there are always surprises. AND the book is funny. My problem with the this book -- and the series as a whole -- is that the witches and wizards of the magical world are never very pleasant to (and sometimes awful to) the magical creatures. It's funny when garden gnomes (live ones) are pulled up like weeds and, unhurt, tossed over a fence. Somehow, though, whether mandrakes are being repotted (later to be made into a potion) or cornish pixies escape (I'm mixing incidents from different volumes), there seems to be almost war between the human magical world and the magical world of creatures. I still think this is a wonderful read -- and what has been said about the book being bad for children because it's about witchcraft (satanic!) is absolute nonsense. Enjoy.

*I liked the part when Hermione had to find out which potion would make you move forward, and which would make you move back.

*My favorite part was when they had to play chess like it was real life, and Ron got knocked out by a big old woman.

*My favorite part was when Harry killed the mountain troll.

* My favorite part was when Quirell touched Harry and his hand started burning.
