Summary: Great book for all ages!
Review: My 8 year old nephew and I started a 'book club' together - our first book was HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE. We both enjoyed the book and I have found it a great way to 'bond' with my nephew.

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERCER'S STONE begins with the story of how Harry's parents die and he is sent to live with his aunt and uncle. Poor Harry is forced to live with people who really don't want him and a cousin Dudley who is very mean and cruel. After many years of this abuse - Harry finds out that he has magical powers and is being sent to wizard's school. This is where the story really begins...the adventures of Harry and his friends is a real page turner! Harry, Ron and Hermoine begin to unravel a mystery about something that is hidden in the school and find out that someone is going to try to steal it.

The characters in this book are very well written helping the reader feel like you really know them - my nephew loves Hagrid.

I am surprised at how much I enjoyed the book and my nephew is hooked! We can't wait to order and read the next book in the series.

Summary: Super! My son has (finally) discovered the joy of reading!
Review: My 8 year old son (who normally will read only when assigned by his teacher) is reading this before school, after school, and at recess. He'd rather read Harry Potter than play Nintendo! I caught him reading in bed with a flashlight the other night! It's not just for kids - after reading the first chapter with my son, I was up until after midnight finishing the book. I couldn't put it down. We can't wait to get into the other Harry Potter books!

Summary: what a fantastic read
Review: My 8 year old son received Harry Potter for Christmas this year, after I heard J>K> Rowling talking on National Public Radio with the book reviewer from the New York Times. We began reading it on Christmas Evening. Our 10 year old daughter Alex was reading along with us and we were all immediately hooked!!! Having gone to an English Puplic School myself, I was particularly interested in the distinct parallels. I have now read it to my older children 3 times. Each of them have read it once, and each tuesday I go into my son's class to read it to his 2nd grade classmates. You can hear a pin drop. Everyone just loves it and makes lots of interesting predictions. We all all dying to read the second book, and hope that if they make a movie, they do credit to the book. MAY HARRY POTTER LIVE FOREVER!!! Mrs. H., Spencer and Alexandra in Phoenix, AZ. USA

Summary: We couldn't put it down!
Review: My 8-year-old and I raced to be the first to get to the book and then competed to see how far we'd gotten ("I'm on page 201." "Yeah? Well I'M on page 253!"). Neither one of us could put it down; fortunately, my bedtime's much later! This book is well-written, exciting, full of plot twists...it's been a long time since I enjoyed a story so thoroughly. We both finished the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and look forward to the third. I'll also be recommending the series to friends.

Summary: This is one of the greatest books ever.
Review: My 9 year old daughter Caitlin says, "When my mom read this book to me I wasn't sure I would like it, but by the time we were finished, I was hoping for a sequel. My favorite part was when Prof. Dumbledor ate the yucky "jelly bean". Too funny. Mom and I can't wait for the next Harry book to be available on Amazon.com. We love to read together!

Summary: You stay on the edge of your chair the whole time!
Review: My 9 year old found the book too difficult to read to herself - the names are hard to understand and some of the vocubulary is difficult. Also, the first chapters were slow and confusing. However once I started reading it aloud - she and her 7 yr old brother would beg and plead for one more page, one more paragraph, just one more sentence each night. They were fascinated by this new world and new images. A good book and a good story should encourage discussion and thinking - HP and the Sorcer's Stone delivers!! We spent time discussing what had happened, rehashed the hints and clues, tryed to guess what would happen next. As soon as I finished the last page, they immediately handed me the second the book and expected me to keep reading without a pause. I expect them both to go back and read this book when their reading skills have improved. I know they will both enjoy the book again and again.

Summary: What Fun!
Review: My 9 year old got this 3-book set for Christmas. I have had to help her get started on other chapter books she's read, but not this one. She started it right away and I'm happy to say it's her first "can't put it down" experience. Now half way through the second book, she's still going strong. I read the first one myself and found it to be very enjoyable. The author has a very appealing writing style that's super easy to read. Could've done without all the hard to pronounce names, but that's the adult in me talking. This series reminds me of the Chronicles of Narnia that I loved as a child. As a matter of fact, we started to read those together but the interest wasn't there for my child. I'm so glad that Harry Potter has come along to ignite my daughter's passion for reading this style of book.

Summary: Best book he ever read!
Review: my 9 year old had never been so enthralled with a book. He never put it down. I am now reading it.

Summary: Well written, extremely imaginative.
Review: My 9 yr. old son loved this book.At first he was reading it by himself and having a hard time, he was becoming very frustrated. Some of the prose and terms and names were hard for him to understand and he wanted to quit reading the book. After the first couple of pages I started reading to him and he fell in love with the book. He would want me to read for an hour or more each night. I would read until my voice gave out and still he wanted more. We both totally enjoyed Scorcerers Stone. It gave us something to do together. Can't wait to get Chamber of Secrets.
