Summary: Why it deserves 5 stars...
Review: Many readers have stated that this book isn't as good as Lewis', Dahl's or Baum's books. Maybe so, but it just might motivate school-age children to read those authors after reading Rowling's novel. I personally applaud Rowling for rising above such nonsense as the Goosebumps books, and for spawning new interest in the genre of fantasy which carries messages about good v. evil, making choices, adopting principles and following one's ideals as well as one's heart. Although I think the book adopts a rather Star Wars-like feeling, including the use of the term the Dark Side, I would rather see young people READING about important themes than sitting in front of a movie or television screen WATCHING their portrayal. Rowling has a great imagination, and by reading her books, children (and adults as well) just might revert to using their own imaginations instead of ingesting what's thrown at them across a screen. It is much better to envision things in one's own mind by reading; Rowling helps save this endangered skill by motivating young people to read quality material. I really wish her first book wasn't being made into a movie; in general, they never seem to be as good as the book...

Summary: Candy For the Brain
Review: Maybe I am teenager and am not supposed to be reading this book by the "laws of maturity," as they are stated in high school, but I couldn't help myself. I have always enjoyed fantasies and magical things, that I can read about. Every now and then people need to break away from the norm and let themselves relax and dive into another world, sort of like a miny vacation. When the brain is forced to eat health food all day, it can't help but crave some sweets at the end. This is exactly how I define Harry Potter books. They are candy for the brain. It's an easy read that allows you to have fun with your imagination. J.K. Rowling did a wonderful job of developing her characters and keeping the reader involved in the story. She obviously put alot of meticulous work into this book, it definately showed through her research on all of the mythical creatures. I would most definately recommend this book to anybody, even though it means we will have to break the recommended age limit of 9 thru 12 years old.

Summary: Good, but...what's the deal?
Review: Maybe I don't get it. After hearing the raves about this book on NPR, I rushed to my computer to order a copy. Based on the critical acclaim, I expected a masterpiece. What I got was a very good piece of imaginative escapist writing for the adolescent set. Fun, yes. Amusing, yes. But genius? I hardly think so. Great literature? Surely not--at least not from an adult perspective. Am I missing something? (And yes, I'm familiar with the up-by-the-bootstraps saga of single mom Rowling, and admire her for her effort.)

Summary: It's fun to read, but not really a good book
Review: Maybe I'm just prejudiced, but I'm one of the few "evil" people in this planet who doesn't like Harry Potter that much.

I thought it was funny sometimes, and I thought a lot of the author's ideas were really interesting and exciting, but I just didn't like the book.

For example, I didn't like the idea of Slytherin. It seems like the author just wasn't thinking when she decided there would be a whole house for the "bad guys". I think that's a shallow idea and also kind of cruel. Could you picture standing there and finding out from the Sorting Hat (which NEVER lies) that you're evil? I think Slytherin was probably the biggest mistake in Harry Potter.

I think it's kind of sad that people call it the best book ever written. I know everyone has their own opinion, but I think there are so many books that are better in every way with no contest and a lot of Harry Potter fans refuse to believe it. It bothers me that some people are so brainwashed by Hogwarts that they won't even try to find out if there are other, better, books.

I think J.K. Rowling has her own creative, exciting, and charming style, but sometimes she loses it when she tries too hard to be like Roald Dahl (who I think is a better author than she is.)

I recommend Harry Potter as a fun book to read, but I don't think anyone should let it control them.

OK, I'll shut up now. Bye!

Summary: An Excellent Read - - Even For a Junior in High School!
Review: Most anyone who even remotely pays attention to pop culture and entertainment news has heard the name "Harry Potter". What is all the fuss about? Well, let me tell you. This first novel in the phenomenally popular series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, is by far one of the greatest novels I have ever read. And no, I don't just mean children's novels. Author J. K. Rowling abruptly begins the story and does not hesitate to create mystery upon mystery upon mystery. The reader will have so many questions by the end of the second chapter that he or she may be tempted to call a friend who has already read the book to find out what is going on. What follows in the next chapters is a wonderfully imaginative story full of suspense, depth, action, and mystery that are certain to keep a reader genuinely interested in what every page has to say. Not once was I ever bored or unenthused while reading. And not only is the book entertaining, it is also intelligent. Most adult readers will think they know the conclusion of the novel half way through the book, but they will be pleasantly surprised to discover that Rowling has more up her sleeve than meets the eye. Also, the characters (especially Mr. Potter himself) are written with such depth and dimension that the reader cannot help but feel compassion, hatred, or both for every single one of them. The best way I can describe this book would be to call it a Roald Dahl story on steroids: a novel with more symbolism, depth, character development, and plot than the excellent books (James and the Giant Peach, Stuart Little, and The Witches to name a few) by the master of children's stories.
Note: Check out the three sequels to this novel; with the exception of #2, they are all highly worthy sequels to this masterful work.

Summary: The Best Book Ever
Review: Most people don't listen to me when I tell them that they MUSTread Harry Potter. Adults simply wave it off as a children's book andother kids sometimes think that it's too long, or that it will be just another mediocre book. But I'm here, begging you to read these wonderful books. I am only twelve years old, but even so, I ask that you at least give it a try. If you don't like it, blame me completely and totally. I promise that you will love the whimsical descriptions and humorous quotes and the characters themselves. Whether you're 8 years old or 88 years old, it makes no difference. Even people who don't like to read will find that they fly through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as if they own their own Nimbus 2000 (you'll have to read the book to find out what a Nimbus 2000 is). So with that, I hope I've persuaded you to give Harry Potter a try, with my guarantee that you'll fall in love with it after reading the first page.

Summary: The first book my daughter has LOVED in a long time.
Review: Most Young Adult books bore my daughter. Either the plot is dull, or the use of language is unimaginative, or the setting is squalid. Yet she was absolutely captivated by this book! It's the first time she's EVER had to be scolded to "stop reading, your friends are at the front door." She loved the characters, the premise, the setting, and the clever use of language and vocabulary. At times she laughed out loud with delight as she read.

Summary: OUTSTANDING!
