Rating: Summary: Let me tell you about one of the best books ever!! Review: Like most teenagers, when you recieve two childerns books for Christmas you snub them without a single care and that was one of the worst mistakes that I have ever done! You see I was given the first two books that lead to the mysterious and entertaining path of Harry Potter, a young wizard that accomplishes many difficult tasks at a wizarding school in Europe, and politely said thank you as I hurridly hid them underneath the wrapping paper praying that no one would notice that they were there. Of coarse my father noticed that my brand new award winning books had vanished and soon discovered them hiding beneath torn up paper. He then gave me a short lecture of how I needed to read them as I slightly nodded that I would "read" these two CHILDREN books!!!! Then one night I told myself that I might as well try the first book and see how it is. As I expected, it was dull and boring, but....I had only read the the first couple of sentences in these mystical books. Then a week later I told myself again to give them another chance and read more then a dozen words and from that moment on I was hooked to these delightfully written stories that contains beautifully written imagery so that you can picture the settings in your imagination. The delectable story had now sprung to life as if I was there in Hogwarts with Harry, Ron and Hermionie tasting the mouth watering butterbeer and fighting the evil Lord Voldemort. I had soon discovered that this book was not just written for children, it has been written for people of all ages and people from all ages should read this masterfully written series because if you don't you do not know hat you are missing out on!!
Rating: Summary: BLOODY BRILLIANT Review: Like my title says, it was great! The first in a series that will definitely become a classic in later generations. You'll find it has charm and is just so good, you'll have to just keep on reading it until it's 3 o'clock in the morning and you realize that you have a major test the next morning in history and haven't studied! It is just beautifully written. I just wish that it was expanded more, but she definitely did that in the 5th one and also the 4th. I enjoyed the movie also, but I would recommend the book more than the movie. I guess you can decide for yourself. My favorite part of the book was the Through the Trapdoor chapter. Although the first chapter is somewhat slow, just keep reading it gets a whole lot better as you go along. Two words I must say if you haven't read this masterpiece: READ IT!
Rating: Summary: No more bickering! Review: Listening to these tapes in the car and at mealtimes has completely eliminated sibling bickering at those times! We are all sitting on the edges of our seats to hear the latest twist of plot in Harry's Adventures. Everyone, from the 1st grader who can't read the books yet; the 5th grader who has devoured them several times; and the parents who don't have time to sit and read the books are thoroughly entranced with Jim Dale's readings of the book.
Rating: Summary: This book deserves TEN stars!! Review: Little did I know that my life was about to be changed - ok, maybe I'm being a little over dramatic here - when our school librarian said over the loudspeaker that I had won my school's door prize from the recent book fair. When I went down to the library, she said that I could pick out any book I wanted, and get it free. So I looked...and looked...and still I couldn't find anything. I went back the next morning to look some more. And then I saw, in the highest corner almost hidden from sight, was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. When I first set eyes on it I knew this was the book I had to get. I still had to pay $7.00 for it, since it was $16.95, but.. Anyway, I took it home and started reading right away. From the first sentence, I was hooked. "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much..." Unfortunatly I also had a report due the next day...but anyhow, my point is that this is likely the best book I have ever read (and that's a lot)and you should read it too. Luv ya, Rachel Marisa :)
Rating: Summary: Looking Beyond the Harry Potter Stories Review: Looking Beyond the Harry Potter Stories. If Rowling had not defied the "standard" trends in children's' books she would have never written her books. Lets hope our children learn from her to be innovative, bold, and creative on their own. In your school days, do you still remember how you hated to read a long book? How many times were your book reports based prologues, forewords or book summaries you managed to find? Yet today's children are reading Rowling's books (over 300 pages long) two or three times. Her books have revived our children's interest back to reading books of length that is priceless. God, I am so tired of hearing how our children rank so low the rest of the world in education. I have heard the same stories since 1948 when I was in high school and when I raised my kids. Yet the kids for the last 50 years have grown up, led and maintained this country as the worlds' greatest power of freedom. As in past generations Rowling is showing that our children have been underrated and when motivated have the abilities to read and lead our country.
Rating: Summary: Harry potter Rocks! Review: Looking for a good book? Try Harry Potter. The book is by J.K. Rowling. This book is about a boy whose parents are killed by an evil wizard. He has to live with his evil muggle (non magic people). He finds out on his eleventh birthday that he is a wizard. He is shocked. Harry goes to Hogwarts school of witchcraft of wizardry. He and his friends get into a lot of mischief. There is a movie that just came out. I saw the sneak preview and i have seen it once more after. I would recommend reading the book first then seeing the movie. I love the book! It is my favorite book which I would read again and again. I highley recomend it.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone Review: Love it. I don't have a chance to read much about the children books. However, I found this book is highly imaginative. Eventhough, some parts are violence concerning this is a book for 9-12 years old kids. But look to the bright side, this book contained every children dream. Imagine this! the lonely boy who never seen his parent, never know who he is, live with the relative who hate him for the reason that he never know for 10 suffering years. Then one day, he found out that he is a wizard and a famous one too. Lot of fantasy, I must said. But who would not love fantasy story. If you are an adult, please...please read it with a child heart because this book is for everyone who still young at heart.
Rating: Summary: A Winner! Review: LOVED IT! I put off reading this book because it was touted as a kid's book. Maybe so, but I was only two pages in to the book when I knew it would be a winner. The story is so imaginative and well written that it can touch that special place in each of us that retains some child-like wonderment. I read this book, then immediately ordered the next two in the series. Book four will be out soon and I can barely wait! The story flows smoothly, is well written and is occasionally laugh out loud funny. It's an easy, fast-paced read with interesting places and characters. Come on! The sorting hat awaits us, and classes will soon begin again! Escape from your Muggle life for a bit; after all, don't you crave a bit of magic?
Rating: Summary: YES! Review: LOVED IT. The best for the hour to and hour from work (so I don't fall asleep!). The reader takes some getting use to, but it is super!
Rating: Summary: Great book, fun 2 read Review: Loved the book. I couldn't stop reading it once I had begun. Great for boys and girls and kids 8-15. A must have if you love fantasies, which I don't read that much(why the 4 stars)
