Rating: Summary: This was an exciting book with amazing twists and turns. Review: J.K. Rowling is a master storyteller. This book follows in the footsteps of authors like Roald Dahl. The story takes place in such an amazingly original setting. All of the vocabulary and history of witchcraft and wizardry makes this book so interesting. The charactors have a complexity that you don't see very often in novels these days. I'd recomend this book to anyone
Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful Review: J.K. Rowling is absolutely wonderful. I have never read a book for young adults that I loved so much. I could not put the book down. I am so addicted that I now own all three books, and I can not wait for the fourth. I believe that J.K Rowling is one of the best authors I have ever read. Her writing is gripping and fun!!!
Rating: Summary: You call it a book I call it a Masterpiece Review: J.K. Rowling is one of the best authors I've read. In my opinion better than Roald Dahl. I love all three books and would like to congratulate J.K. Rolwing on her smashing success. A devoted Harry Potter lover lives here.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Journey of the Senses Review: J.K. Rowling provides the rich words that are brought phenomenally to life by the performance of Jim Dale in the audiocassette version of the Harry Potter series. Jim's 1999 Grammy nomination was well deserved for his portrayal of all the characters in the Potter books. The story leaps to life, grabs your senses and takes you flying through all of Harry's adventures through the vocal talents of Mr. Dale. After a short while, you feel as though you are listening to an ensemble cast of performers presenting the story, rather than one very talented actor. Listening to these tapes is a great shared treat for those who drive their kids to school.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book I've ever read Review: J.K. Rowling really knows how to write a good book. You won't be able to put it down! I love this book, and have recommended it to many of my friends. Good thing Rosie O'Donnell said something about it on her show.
Rating: Summary: great read for grown-ups too Review: J.K. Rowling restored my faith in the joys of reading aloud. Not since "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" has the supernatural world of children's imagination been so enchantingly captured. This is a story that adults will have a delicious time with, even if they have no young ones to beg for "just one more chapter, please...." And Scholastic has given the world a winner from a design and production standpoint; graceful typography, proper leading, exquisite illustrations. Thanks, Amazon, for your blurb - it led me to a great personal Christmas gift - now if I can ever get it back from the neighbor kids, I'll be able to read it for the third time!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter has no competition! Review: J.K. Rowling seems to be the printed version of Steven Spielberg--and she can't seem to miss! And refreshing it is to see a series of "children's literature" become so succesful--owing to its page after page of exciting delights! In Book 1 of this incredibly successful series (financially and otherwise), we find probably the most famous 11-year old in the world--Harry Potter! We meet young Harry as the ward of some very repulsive relatives (aunt, uncle, cousin), who clearly detest Harry (they make him sleep in a broom closet!). It does not take the reader long to sympathize with Harry. And then--something magical happens. He is visited by a representative of "the other world" and is invited to attend Hogwarts, a school for wizards and witchcraft. Suffice it to say, Harry is permitted to attend Hogwarts and there the fun--and adventure--begins! Of course, Hogwarts is not without its villains, secrets, and "good fellas"! Harry proceeds to "learn the ways" of wizardry! Harry's destiny seems clear--that he is to follow in the footsteps of his parents, who, unbeknownst to Harry for the past 11 years, were wizards themselves. Exciting adventure after exciting adventure follow--and we are introduced to the sport of the century Quidditch, a soccer-like game where players compete on broomsticks. Under all the hoopla, of course, is the "secret of the sorcerer's stone"--the principle plot concern here! Harry's--and the readers'--adventures have just begun! Already three in this series have been published, with the long-awaited fourth set for July! I can just imagine the frenzy when Book No. 4 appears! I can hardly wait! (Billyjhobbs@tyler.net)
Rating: Summary: Enchanting Review: J.K. Rowling was an unknown writer wannabe before she wrote the first Harry Potter book. Now, she is a household name along with millions of dollars, or pounds since she's English. She never guessed that one little book would bring her this much success, but Harry Potter has become one of modern literature's newest classics. The story goes that Harry is an orphan who has been growing up with his aunt and uncle, who both despise him, but he can't understand why. One day, a man shows up and tells Harry that he's a wizard, and what's more, one of the most famous wizards in the world. When Harry was young, he stopped the worst dark wizard of them all, Lord Voldemort, and almost killed him. Now Harry has been invited to attend Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to hone his skills. When he arrives, many adventures await him, including the hatching of a dragon, a chance to play on his dorm's Quidditch (wizard sport) team, and a game of chess where he is one of the pieces. This book isn't just for kids, my entire family loves these stories, and I guarantee you will too.
Rating: Summary: Please make a movie out of it! Review: J.K. ROWLING YOU ARE A GENIUS! I can't believe it is so well written! Our 5th grade teachers just finished reading it, and I just finished the second book and can't believe I have to WAIT for the third one. PLEASE make a movie out of it, and let my whole class star! :)
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Review: J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is a thrilling fiction/fantasy novel that is a definite must-read. As the novel opens, Harry Potter is merely an infant and is mysteriously abandoned on the Dursleys doorstep. Reluctantly they take him in. The Dursley's, who are in fact his close relatives, seem to be very bothered by Harry's presence in their house. They force him to do all of the household chores, and he sleeps under the staircase in a small closet. But after ten long years of misery, Harry begins to receive lots of mysterious letters. Uncle Vernon tries his hardest to keep the letters from Harry, but soon enough he is able to read one of them. He learns that he has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Whether or not he knew it at the time, Harry was about to embark on the most thrilling journey of his life as he began his quest to becoming a wizard. At school, Harry Potter quickly becomes acquainted with the teachers and students. He develops close friendships with fellow students Ron and Hermione who later on accompany him in some of his daring adventures. As the book progresses on Harry and his friends begin to notice strange happenings around the campus. In their curiosity they search for answers to the odd occurrences, and before long the three are stuck right in the middle of a Hogwarts crisis. Harry and his pals show extreme courage and bravery as they battle the evil that dwells near Hogwarts and even risk their lives for the good of their school's future. At this point in the novel, it is just getting interesting and I would hate to spoil the ending; therefore, I strongly encourage everyone to take some time and read J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". I thought that the book was interesting, suspenseful and very entertaining. Personally, I enjoy fantasies about mysterious worlds, strange creatures and especially magic. I liked how the book revolved around three kids' lives in an odd and creepy school. I also liked how the author focused on Harry's determination to meet his own personal goals. Lastly, I thought it was cool how the author allowed the kids' to fight the evil and save everyone. Often in fantasy stories, children are unheard of, and I just thought it was interesting how J.K. Rowling placed so much emphasis on the children's abilities. I loved reading about the magical world of Harry Potter, and I could hardly put the book down. I think that it is a book for people of all ages and that everyone should take some time to read it.
